2:20 gets me every time, such a simple but smooth transition to the next section of the song. It's the little things that makes Luke's covers so enjoyable for me, great work my dude.

Here's to all you fucks who complain about Luke covering "pop" music/anything that's not metal: As a drummer for more than 8 years I can firmly say that playing non-metal can sometimes be waaay more enjoyable than simply covering a metal song. For example, if you're covering a metal song more than likely you're gonna try to play it more for note to display your precision. However, covering a pop has more entertainment value for a drummer as we can display our own style and funk to it. Starboy is an easy song because it's not a band focused tune. So there's plenty of room for creativity hence why Luke called it an improv. Plus constantly playing metal is annoying as fuck. That's why most metal musicians (as long as you're not try hard edge lords) listen to other genres of music. A great musician will ALWAYS have many styles under his or her belt. No matter the skill if you can only greatly play metal, you'll be known as a "great metal musician" not a great musician. So on behalf of the real musicians, please stop bitching about the song choices.

Krishna Bhola - I couldn't agree more. Luke is probably the most versatile drummer out there right now. I love what he is doing. He can play any style of music out there effortlessly. His ghost notes are on-point!!!

Agree. You need to explore other genres to grow and explore yourself as a musician.
@miguelmoreno10447 жыл бұрын
Agree, it does not have anything wrong at all playing something more than Metal.

Krishna Bhola so to simplify your point, if you play the drums you should have fun. And thats what luke holland has by vary between different styles of music.

Absolutely love the technicality in this. Luke Clearly has studied Jazz. The Ghost Notes are amazingly accented and you can see his commitment to this piece as he works through the difficulty of the polyrhythms between his Left and Right foot. I did get a go laugh out of this though. First time I've ever seen a percussionist choke a hi-hat.

The evolution is just captivating. I've watched you go from an amazing young talent to just an amazing talent. The fact that you demonstrate mastery, across a broad spectrum of styles, is equally impressive. Your covers transform styles that I would normally dismiss into works that I stop and ponder as an artistic piece I might have otherwise dismissed. All the best from an old guy drummer given an expanded perspective through what you're doing.
