Ken Meyering’s stunning kaleidoscope footage inspired this week’s composition. On first glance you notice the rotating segments, but, once you relax your vision, beautiful shapes start to emerge and continue to evolve and develop.
“Kaleidoscope” is my attempt to write a musical analogue for this. It opens with rotating pianistic figuration (treble and bass parts moving contrariwise) before long melodic arcs emerge from the texture. Though not the same sound world as Debussy and Ravel, this is the closest I’ve come to writing something Impressionist.
My thanks go to Ken Meyering for his assistance and exceptional work. More can be found on his channel -

I just came here from the Clair de Lune video. And I do not regret it. Your music has this calm, almost aetherial theme like many french composers manage to capture. I really love that. Sadly many modern composers like to work with themes similar to Zimmer, epic, gargantua... only a few happen to write music for the soul, not for the head. And even fever manage to get their work done properly. But you did, so thank you for this composition. I really enjoyed it.

I’m in my last stretch of nursing school, and your videos help me to relax and focus. You have a unique sound that reminds me of when my mother would play the piano when I was a child. Thank you very much for your talent and hard work to put these videos up, they got me through the extreme ups and downs of nursing school and life. Thank you.

I love your work! It's really inspiring. I could imagine this piece being played in a movie one day. It feels kind of... nostalgic, I guess. Do you have any tips for aspiring composers? Could you tell me about the process of composing one of your piano compositions? I'd love to know your secret!
@LukeFaulkner
@LukeFaulkner 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for saying so! Happy to :) All my compositions start as improvisations which I always record. If I feel any of the material has potential, I transcribe it using Sibelius notation software. Then I return to the piano with the sheets and play around with the idea, deciding what needs to be done (in terms of form, thematic development, etc.) Once I've figured that out, it's back to notating it and then a final return to the piano with a pencil to add the finishing touches.

@Ajertal

@Fast Pablo1 Its just True. The use of the same types of chord progression over and over again makes it sound all the same. Besides that it is a completely tonal music. I liked it at the beginning, but now it is simply the Ludovico Einaudi formula. Literally it is the same music all the time. It only changes the name. Pity.
@Ajertal
@Ajertal 5 жыл бұрын
Okay, my friend. The previous comment was based on a musical intuition. So to not be a fool, and not to say something that may be wrong, I decided to investigate. In each video Mr. Faulkner leaves a first part of the music written. And unfortunately it's like I said. All the music is the same. In fact it is made in the simplest way in the world. First and sixth relation in major scale. Not even a seventh nor an inversion of chords. I do not want to continue investigating, the truth is that I did not see all the sheets but look at five or six. Those who are in minor I did not see them. You can see yourself, as I say in the description are the Music Sheet. And do not get me wrong, I do not think he's a bad musician. Some of the things he did are in fact good. In the sense that a person who does not make art, but craftsmanship, can be good. Keep enjoying this music, doesnt matter if they are new or old or repetitive or bad. if you like it, then its spetial. But in this case, we talked about whether or not they were repeated. And they are.
@Ajertal
@Ajertal 5 жыл бұрын
