I’m a native speaker from the US. I promise you that most native speakers would not be able to immediately answer the type of questions that the interviewer is asking. The questions are more tests of logic. They require some thought. For example: “How effective might the ways of learning be?” What kind of random question is that? 😂
@Lexisspace Жыл бұрын
this comment makes me feel relieved
@shaccooper4828 Жыл бұрын
@@Lexisspace Yes. I’m a licensed English as a Second Language (ESL) and Spanish as a foreign language teacher. In educational testing, these questions would be called “invalid.” If the purpose of this test is to determine the students’ proficiency in English, it is not a valid test. The test requires high level reasoning skills. This test is assessing the students’ reasoning skills as much as it is testing their speaking skills. One can be a native speaker and not be able to answer these questions. Another problem is that these questions are not authentic, meaning that they are questions that are highly unlikely to be asked in the real world, definitely not without more context than a picture. If your goal is to become fluent in English, being able to easily answer these questions are not necessary.

Practice with a clock in your hand. Discipline yourself to maybe one point for each photo, and one reason. Many students make the mistake of going into too much detail on the first photo, because they think they have to explain themselves further. Make sure you answer both questions, and if you've time over at the end (unlikely!) go back and repeat what you have said, paraphrasing.

Do you realize that English levels are on a spectrum?. It's not the same to score high enough to barely pass a C1 exam than it is to be confident enough to consistently get C1 level scores without breaking much of a sweat. If I were you I would remain a bit conservative when it comes to assessing your current English level and not to overestimate it too much. That it not to say that you should undermine your level but to acknowledge that you can get better. By the way , the CAE exam (C1 of Cambridge) has fail rate of over 30% , the highest of all Cambridge exams. It goes without saying that many of them are more underprepared than they want to admit. A well rounded C1 is actually quite hard to reach.

You paid for the exam, there's pressure, it's probably the first big exam you take and you see 3 completely random images you could not prepare for and you have no time to prepare your answers, so you have to spitball coherent stuff while showcasing english prowress. I don't think it matters how good the points themselves were. I am preparing for c1 as well. The key in part 2 is hypothesysing and compare & contrast. You could be saying "but it could be a giraffe in disguise" to the picture of a lion.
@Noelito402 жыл бұрын
I think they answered the questions pretty well. They gave extended stretches of language, pronunciation was clear, and control of grammar was good....You can't pass or fail on the basis of one part of the exam, but we're they to keep up this standard in the other parts, I'd say they'd both get C1. 🤔
