Around the 5:10 mark you said , and I quote "I am amazed at how well this version works"... My question is simple... why does Apple not permit this software to be installed without patches in the first place? It twists my mind that companies do this. People are still getting around it, why not make it official... with a warning, say 'This machine will be slower than expected due to its age'... I use Apple devices, but this screws me up big time.
@gregordiseth6651 Жыл бұрын
Two (three) reasons: Planned obsolescence. Apple forces consumers to buy new machines to keep the revenue stream flowing. Two: Perceived performance. Apple doesn't want consumers to experience the OS running more slowly on legacy hardware. Three: Apple would have to adapt to support older machines (drivers) like OLCP does. I do understand with the shift to new architecture (M chips) - when Apple drops X86 support entirely with OS updates, these OLCP style patches will no longer work on Intel machines.

I love this. I recently did the same sort of thing myself! I have an Early 2011 2.2GHz Quad-Core i7 MacBook Pro 17" with that same matte display, except in 1920x1200. I gave it 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD, and it hauls! It was a legendary machine then, and it's a legendary machine now. In Cinebench, it would score around 2,000, compared to the 800 of this machine in the video. And, with its larger discrete GPU and extra two cores, it really holds its own doing just about anything one could describe as "normal use." Even running Monterey via OCLP, everything is a buttery smooth 60 FPS on it pretty much all the time. Scrolling and rubber-banding are smooth. Even VSCode (damn electron apps!) and TypeScript run great. Safari, Chrome, Brave, KZbin, life is good. Everything Just Works, and works... _great_. And I can literally reboot it into Snow Leopard, where the first Rosetta (for PowerPC applications) is still supported, and speedily, with full discrete graphics support, run the same exact software I enjoyed on my PowerBook G4 back in high school!

On a PowerPC, your choice of browser is petty much limited to TenFourFox and support for FF and other browsers was dropped when the idiot Steve Jobs junked an excellent chip for no good reason at all.

I would repaste it if you haven’t already. Those GPUs are known to run hot and fail.

I got an Core2Duo Intel MBP from a friend. My MBP has 8gb of RAM. I took out the HDD and installed an SSD. I could not get macOS Lion to install on the MBP but I did get Kubuntu Linux to install on it no problem. My Core2Duo MBP has a fan issue of being really noisy (I think due to the graphics card failing?). I can browse the web, watch KZbin videos in 480p with a little bit of lag. I am getting into this used MBP. I plan on buying a 2012 i5 Intel MBP from Ebay in the future. My main Mac is a 2019 4K retina 21.5in iMac with 8gb of RAM. I plan on buying an Apple Silicon Mac in the future when my 2019 iMac is no longer supported by Apple.
