The iPad is not a Mac computer. It is a touch screen computer. Sadly the software on iPads has been neglected and we have lost some great Apps, like Publisher, as a result of Apple upgrades. I do not want the complicated nerd software like I used years ago on a desktop running Microsoft windows and Office. To my mind the problem is the programmers come from computers, and lack a knowledge of creative graphic design processes and sequences, like, why can't I have a resizable text box, resizable photo insert box and resizable picture box in mail, in notes and in pages. Why can't I also select coloured type faces. I'd like that in calendar as well. And the option to change the background colour in each day box in calendar to highlight important and regular events. Too many nerds lacking vision, more obsessed with hand gestures and gimmicks while failing to understand the work process.

I bought a Macbook Air 2015 a few months back with 4gb ram but it arrived with a line on the screen, so I got a replacement model with 8gb ram. The 4gb model was so slow but the 8gb model was so fast. And they both had the exact same specs otherwise.

1) 4gb 😱 8 is horrible enough ...the old machines really needs 16 gb+ and a NVMe SSD. 2) 2013 is to old, 2014 might go, but 2015 is a massive difference. 3) The USB C thing was something EU forced Apple to, and not with their good will.

Did everyone notice that Apple removed all user comments on their Apple sales website. They don't allow negative comments on their products. That is what a liberal is today. If you make a negative comment about them, their politics, their products or their company, they either cancel it or censor it. Tim Cooks Apple does the same thing on their support pages if you make a negative comment about their programming, which is THE EXACT REASON SUPPORT PAGES WERE IMPLEMENTED AT APPLE. Now you can't even participate in them, because any negative comment on their software gets censored by their moderators. That is the definition of a terrible company. Oh, I forgot their channel here on KZbin. You can't comment there either.

What happens if you take a M1 chip and try to make it work in an Intel Mac is that a dumb idea?! I’m sure it wouldn’t work

I've got a few now that I've given new life to.For ordinary everyday use they are great and they look good too!Today I ordered a mid 2010 for £40 which was worth it as the charger on its own are getting hard to find, the seller has had it since new and has updated to a new one.For more serious use I have my M1 mac mini and the latest iPad Pro,both of which manage adobe and affinity apps really well.I've updated them all to Sonoma including a 2013 macbook air with only 4Gb ram and all running quite happily although the Air is a bit sluggish till its fully awake then its fine.Once you know your way around the inner workings of the Mac its very pleasant to potter around with them,I just wish me hands weren't so shaky then I'd be doing what DosDude1 does :)

I don't know what you're complaining about. I'm still using a secondhand Macbook air 2015 with only 4GB of RAM, i5 core and 128GB SSD. Probably the lowest specs available at the time. It's slow and heats up occasionally, but still works fine.

Hmm it would be cool if you could sorta make a magnetic display thing. so when you need the inbuilt display you have it but when you want a large tv exp, you can just yeet the display off.

Used to own a 2020 M1 MacBook Pro. Now own one of these, 2023 M3 Pro chip MBP, with 11core CPU, 18 core GPU and 512GB SSD. Wasn't a fan of the space black so got it in silver. Got it for a good deal and managed to save £300 off the RRP and got another £60 off since the AppleCare purchase period had expired.

The small text/dialog boxes during install is common for Retina models. Same when booting into Safe-mode, which you have to do after updates to re-patch the system. I have the 2014 15" rMBP 2.8/16GB/2TB SSD.and the speakers are garbage as well. My 2011 model had way better speakers, even with one blown out. Overall though, my experience with the 2014 model running Monterey has been pretty good. A few bugs here and there, but pretty usable. I can even emulate PS2 games fairly well.

Meanwhile, on a PC you upgrade the storage by unhooking the SSD and popping the new one in in 5 minutes. Apple is watching this, planning out how to block people from doing this.

Kind of amazing how surprising this all seems to some people, like dude, laptops are just that. You have always had the ability to just close it, put it in a stand against the wall and just use a tv as a display, get a usb keyboard and that's it. It really conserves the laptop as long as you keep ventilation unimpeded.

Embarrassingly, I still own the MacBook Pro 2012! Whilst it’s served me well over the years and to its credit it still does the job (battery life aside) it is clearly holding on for dear life and I can admit that it is probably now time for an upgrade!

I feel like the macbook air should either just be called macbook, or bring these back with new keyboard same size, 1 size only put the last gen chip in it or even m1 and sell them for around the cost of a mac mini base model simple, sleek small m1, 256gb,8gb for like 500-600

Love that you could create a mostly useable laptop for such a small amount of money. Need to look at that software that allows you to install up to date OS on older machines (my Mum’s Mac Mini from 2010/11 might become useable again. Interestingly I had a similar battery experience some years back on a MacBook Pro. Not long after I’d bought it the battery went to 0% for no apparent reason. Took back to Apple Store and they couldn’t find anything wrong but reinstalled everything and sent me on my way. Never had a problem with it ever again but was constantly worried about it dying at the worst possible time.

I traded my macbook for an iPad Pro back in 2018 and haven’t looked back. Unlike some, the iPad for me has totally replaced a laptop for me. Even without the ability to run MacOS, in my opinion, the iPad does everything better than a laptop & more. First, as an artist, the iPad Pro blows away any laptop as a digital sketchbook. For media consumption, the ipad also blows away a laptop. I find editing photos & videos on my ipad much easier and enjoyable on my ipad. Plus the ipad is lighter and more portable than any laptop. I will never go back to a laptop again. I still use my 2018 11” iPad pro as my main content creation & media consumption device. I mostly use my ipad pro at home. When traveling, I also have an iPad mini. I will probably upgrade to an OLED ipad pro… but I want to upgrade my ipad mini to the ipad mini 7 more. Sad to learn the ipad mini won’t be updated this week. I’ll most likely have to wait until September. All in all, iPads hold their usefulness longer than any other Apple product.
