Can't say enough nice things thank you. *Have one tiny idea/request that might help bring these 17s even further* Is there anyway to get a Bluetooth 5.0 chipset installed or perhaps an external dongle that would somehow be compatible with Universal Control? Using opencore I got as far as installing a compatible wifi/bt chipset from a 2012 (which was able to connect to UC), but unfortunately the range was absolutely terrible. Couldn't get more than 5 feet without experiencing disconnects. At one point I was able to get a third party dongle to show as installed and active (instead of the onboard) but no luck at that stage getting it to connect. UC seemingly has the potential to use a 17" as a nice "controller" essentially, with easy access to a cheap m1 base station (MacBook air or Mac mini) on another screen for any heavy processing. That was the hope anyways.

Well in some cases user are actually better off using the latest official OS cuz the thing will get very slow when patched (not on all Macs I guess) but still very impressive indeed. Patched an old 2012 MBA to Ventura :D
@iamkmark Жыл бұрын
@@prayhe Absolutely - you definitely want to do some research ahead of time to make sure the update is even worth it. I recently opted to install Monterey instead of Ventura (via OCLP) on my 2010 Mac Pro 5,1 that had previously been running Mojave natively, as I'd learned there were still a number of compatibility issues with Ventura still being addressed by the OCLP team. Fortunately, Monterey is running just as great as Mojave was on my cheesegrater, and I couldn't be happier! :)
@prayhe Жыл бұрын
@@iamkmark Yeah for the old Mac Pros it definitely makes sense! On said MBA that I own (also using OCLP) you definitely notice a difference in speed between Catalina and Ventura so it really depends on your hardware. I did it mostly because it was cool breathing in some life to that lil buddy :D

Omg a visit by the legend himself! Intel HD4000 is one of the few times Intel came out impressing us just a bit with their graphics. For an IGP at the time it felt very capable.
@SterkeYerke5555 Жыл бұрын
I think the Iris was even more impressive a year later. Honestly the HD 4000 was only about as fast as the nVidia 320M two years prior, which were integrated into the chipset on 13" models. There's no way the 6770M is slower than that when it works. Performance was never the problem on either the 6750M or the 6770M. Still though, I'd probably trade the 6770M on my 17" for an HD 4000 if I could. The 4000 is of course way more reliable and its Metal support probably makes it more usable these days on modern macOS

The 17 inch should've never been discontinued. Is it possible to do this with an M1 or M2 board from a MacBook Air? Sort of the same as connecting an M-series Mac Mini to a 5K iMac display, but connecting the keyboard, trackpad and battery from a 17 inch MBP chassis. (Ports would be easier since the M1 logic board is so small there would be enough space inside to fit like a stripped down USB hub.)
