As someone who lives near Champaign I can definitely say this rivalry is cared about, however it’s definitely more in the line of something like K-State vs ISU. Sure there’s some dislike but not on the same level as some of the other rivalries the school has. However, it definitely gets pretty heated in Basketball though.

As an Illinois fan, I was pleasantly surprised that you made a video about this. Since the last time Illinois played Mizzou in football, I've graduated from Illinois and married a St Louis girl, so I'm very excited to have this rivalry coming back in 2026. I do think this will become bigger, as the game will act as a B1G vs. SEC game, one of the few Power 2 rivalries

great video as always! Really loved your commentary on modern writing by using examples from the Missouri newspaper in 1896. Thought the bit about ground breaking events in Illinois and a comparison to an earthquake that took place in the same year was really well down and shows just how time and effort you put into making these videos. Cant wait to see what future videos will hold, keep up the great work!

St. Louisan Illini fan here, I actually went to the first Arch Rivalry game at The Dome. When it comes to football, Mizzou & Illinois are often not that competitive, and seldom competitive at the same time, so it often felt like they tried to make it a thing through marketing than a real rivalry. But the *reason* they’ve tried so hard to make it a football thing is because on the basketball court, it IS a real rivalry. The Bragging Rights game is the single biggest basketball event in St. Louis every year, even more than the MVC tournament or a usually competitive mid-major SLU program. Personally I’d consider Mizzou to be Illinois’ biggest basketball rival (sorry Indiana, Iowa, & Northwestern), and since Mizzou and Kansas basically don’t play anymore, I’d beat more than a few Tigers fans might think similarly. If the Arch Rivalry ever matched the Bragging Rights game, it’d be a massive boost for both programs in the long run.

Yeah I went to maybe the 2nd or 3rd STL game and it was a FUN game! Me and a couple buddies went and the dome was loud and packed... Def enjoyed myself. That was a year both schools had good teams but MU was a bit better at the time. It was glad to hear them bring the game back, especially with all the SEC / BIG 10 stuff.. def will add another wrinkle to that conversation lol...

Illinois alum from the STL area here. You had a lot of great points, and I’d consider Mizzou our biggest rival in hoops, though I’ve found that depends on where you live in the state. One point you didn’t touch on regarding football is how fertile the recruiting area is; East St. Louis is historically one of the best HS programs in the country, with a lot of other nearby suburbs producing talent on this side of the river. Since Mizzou’s moved to the SEC, they’ve locked the metro-east down, along with STL proper for the most part. There’s a lot of kids that’d be paying attention to a rejuvenated Braggin Rights in football in what’s become a bit of a hotbed over the past decade or so. Either way, great video and thanks for giving it some attention!

Great video, like usual the editing is smooth and the subject that's barely worth a few words is turned into an engaging masterpiece. As a fan from the ACC, your map of the SEC at 9:50 is a bit futuristic, hopefully won't happen but probably will. Keep up the good work!

As a current resident of St. Louis (K-State alum and big time fan), I had never given any thought to the rivalry or had ever heard either name for it. As far as the population here goes, I think I only know a single UI alum/fan, way more Mizzou folks. I honestly know more people from SIUE, UMSL, and Missouri S&T than UI. But that could also be an employment industry bias.

"When it comes to interconference rivalries, especially between the Big 10 and SEC, not many stick out." Well, that's going to chance when the "Big 2" conferences offcial break away from the NCAA and only have each other for out-of-conference and post-season play
@stevenblackiston722511 ай бұрын
As a non-Mizzou fan, but as a Missourian who has many friends who are, Illinois was always the second rival to KU. They've always given off the "oh yeah, those guys" vibe. Speaking of Illinois, you should take a look at the directional schools in the state and how they're allegedly connected by having castles on campus! Some pretty cool sports history there!

I didn’t know the Arch Rivalry existed before this video, but let me tell you, I’m glad I checked this one out. Very interesting and entertaining video by Lukas, as always. 👍👍 However, I gotta be honest. I think Missouri should be in the Big Ten. When Missouri joined the SEC, I seriously questioned the move, and I still do today. Missouri, in my opinion, is not a Southern state. Missouri is more geographically aligned with the Big Ten. Now, I’ll grant you that Missouri wouldn’t enjoy getting ganged up on by both Ohio State and Michigan. But starting in 2024, Missouri is gonna get pushed around by Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, Auburn, Florida, Texas A&M…you get the idea.

Living in STL and a Mizzou fan. Mizzou vs Illinois I think of more as a Basketball rivalry then a football on. Mizzou's basketball rival is Illinois in the Briggen rights game. Mizzou's football rivalry is with Kansas.

9:51 Normally I would agree with this sentiment; however, having gone to college in South Dakota, my dislike of the SEC is pushed aside by my conviction to root for the two SEC football coaches with South Dakota ties: Kalen DeBoer @ Alabama & Josh Heupel @ Tennessee.
@morganmumma659911 ай бұрын
As a Mizzou fan, I look at it as a one (soon to be two) day a year rivalry. On the day the game is played I desperately want to win that game because of the bragging rights that comes with it. But I don't root agaisnt Illinois in any random game against a big 10 opponent just because they are Illinois. Where for example I hope kansas loses every game they play for the rest of time, because $%#@ kansas

Illinois fan. The Illini fans definitely care about it, but football has always been more in the background. While an Illini fan always wants to see Mizzou lose, football just isn’t as intense. Basketball, on the other hand, there is a lot of hatred there. Braggin’ Rights is one of the biggest games of the year for each team, and records get thrown out the window. They will fight like dogs to beat each other. They also fight over recruits (Jeremiah Tillmon, Mark Smith) and even coaches (Counzo Martin). Basketball is what makes this a rivalry and keeps it living on.

As a Mizzou fan, there are the obvious rivals. Arkansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska the little school to the west, but I think if you were to ask a majority of Mizzou fans. They would say that they hate Kentucky and Tennessee more than Illinois. We don't have that mutual dislike of each other. In fact we much of ourselves in each other. Two flyover states that have bigger rivals to fight in our own conferences. Similar to Mizzou and K-State.
