Really interesting. A video on Tikz and perhaps Beamer could be a nice addition to your Latex serie.

It's nice seeing Chomsky cited for his linguistic work and not his communist politics.

If languages are local maxima of prosodic optimizations how does that explain languages changing over time and similar languages? Shouldn't there be some external factors that can influence the higher dimensional landscape?
@LukeSmithxyz
@LukeSmithxyz 7 жыл бұрын
Depends on what you mean by "languages." "Language" in the way I was using it there was a formal sense of "a possible set of constraint rankings." Languages in the colloqiual sense do change to similar languages, but each of these would be local maxima in themselves. So in the corny drawing I made, when languages change, speakers would be receiving input data ambiguous between two local maxima, and would be vying for the "incorrect" one. This language would be formally very different, but in terms of classical parameters, might vary only minorly.

Lol. Good question. I looked it up in the analytics: average is about three minutes. Highly variable though; most click off quickly, the rest watch all the way through.

Luke is there an easy and fast way to fix fonts on your comfy linux setup? Most of things worked fine untill i installed inkscape (i think)?

Top bar and qutebrowser fonts have changed as far as I've noticed. Is there one place/command to change it?
@LukeSmithxyz
@LukeSmithxyz 7 жыл бұрын
So they're a different font now? Sounds like when you installed inkspace, it installed another monospace font which now takes presidence over the font it was before. Run: fc-match monospace And see what font it is. You can rejigger font preferences in ~/.config/fontconfig/fonts.conf
