Regarding having chickens for eggs, my 8 free range hens give me more eggs than I want. When I give them to one of my neighbors, they give me me homemade cookies back. Independence for survival is great, but some co-dependence can be sometimes better.
@red13emerald4 жыл бұрын
Joshua Kaufmann I think that what Luke means. You didn’t need money to get those cookies, you weren’t depending on the economic system to obtain them. Support and co-dependence inside a community are good things, they allow us to specialise and be safe. Substituting those things for dependence on your economic situation and thus your job and your usefulness to the economic system (which really equates to how much money you move around) makes you less safe and less free.

Guys don't get a slow cooker get a pressure cooker (or better yet, a pressure canner!). It's like a slow cooker but instead of having to do plebian shit like think ahead (who even has time for that?!) you can get the same results in rarely more than 20 minutes (of actual cook time, they do take a while to heat up). If you get an electric one with a timer you can even set it up like a slow cooker ahead of time but instead of leaving it to cook all day it starts right before you can get home. The advantage of this over the slow cooker is that you can also use it for sterilization in processes like canning, so when you're going full unabomber and growing your own crops you don't have to worry about that potato salad made with those home-canned potatoes killing you with the botulism.

Seeds are always a good buy if you don't have a plant you want to grow for food already. Depends on what you have already. I think anyone with a decent amount of land should procure tools. Especially hand tools. also you don't need chickens if you have wild turkeys. You can just start feeding the turkeys and close the gate on them after they get too plump. Then you have a source of eggs and turkey.
@drakedorosh93324 жыл бұрын
There is different levels of cooking. You can get a box of macaroni and follow the directions. You can get velveeta processed cheese product and melt that on noodles. Or you can add a little flour to melted butter which becomes a "rue" to which ordinary cheese and milk join to form a creamy sauce that you pour on top of the egg yolks and flour you massaged with your bare hands until noodles emerged from your fingers. It is OK to start raw and find out what you can make by boiling water. Collect your kitchen gear at the thrift store if they still exist in post-corona land. Look for pans that are thick bottomed. Kitchen appliances that are perfectly good are in abundance for a few bucks. Sometimes you get the most amazing things like a stainless steel steam juicer set which you can use as a still if you balance a cold pot on top.
