Drawn out and repetitive. You just described every epic game ever made. That’s what we want out of games we like that have excellent gameplay. In regards to the mythic monsters, they're a product of Isu artifacts. The artifacts themselves turn anyone unlucky enough to touch them into those beasts as a defense mechanic. Alexios/Kassandra are only able to resist it due to their bloodline. So, they technically make as much sense as the protag's super spear.
@ajaxdishbarx543 жыл бұрын
Yeah but that's the main reason many of the older ac fans hates odyssey because in the orginal games if anyone that hasn't isu blood in them touches these artifacts they are corrupted but in odyssey they turn people into mythical monsters which breaks the lore
@Mr.SoulMusical3 жыл бұрын
@@ajaxdishbarx54 technically, corruption is a relative term as the artefacts also operate with the world and times that surround them. In modern times, it corrupts and controls the minds of people it touches because in modern times it's easier to defend the artefact that way. In the Greek settings when the items are also so much more powerful they corrupt people by mutating them into something the people fear most, hence why the mythical monsters get to exist. The artefacts make them "real" because the myths are what kept people away.

Where's the threat of being assassinated anymore if everyone is just damage sponges? When I started this game I was excited. The visuals, the world, that story intro....it all hits you as they want it to. Then I saw this amazing tomb, then I saw another tomb, then another and another....and another, all exactly the same. Same with caves....there were literally 3 maybe 4 cave designs, sometimes filled with water, sometimes not. All the same. Same with the camps....same setup of tents and watch towers. I never felt the copy and paste in Death Stranding, which Luke assured was lazy design, like I felt here. I was into it the first 20-30 hours. Then it started to drag. Then fighting both sides made no sense regarding the story. Then I reached about 70-80 hours. Then all of a sudden.....it was over. I hadn’t even killed half the cult, which was the main antagonist of the game, and the story was over. WHAT? The final boss was a choice? I went back and hunted down all cult members. When I got to the head of the cult, I’m given an option to romance the cult leader???? WHAT???? Then I killed them in one swipe of my sword. The end. There are some epilogue missions with the historian, but they were unrewarding, and again a soft ending that felt....just not exciting. There are things that are good here, but A LOT bad. I have no idea how this is GOTY material. Its an impressive looking world, but once you are in it for 20 hours, it all looks the same. I’ve never played a game this long, seeing it through to the end, only to be left with such an unsatisfying conclusion. The DLCs were weird, as they seem to only muddy the AC lore, almost as if written by a person who doesn’t know the lore. I wanted to like this game, but again.....Ubisoft just aren’t very good at writing. We celebrate the mediocrity of Origins story, because we are so used to this kind of stuff. Its sad. This just didn’t work for me.

what? That DLC did AC lore a favour. It reinstated the importance of Darius and the early Assassins after Origins shat all over them by blocking all connection between Bayek and them. Also, it managed to take the vengeance story, one which has been done to death in the AC franchise with no innovation, and apply a unique twist. If you think First Blade is a bad story, you probably have AC fatigue or you don't realise how much Origins fucked up the lore, leaving Odyssey to clean up the mess.

I can absolutely guarantee feudal Japan is on their short list. You mention at 33:00 or so that the value of human life has been stripped. I want to counter with the fact that AC Odyssey is chronologically before the first tenet of the Creed, “Stay your blade from the flesh of an innocent” was implemented. According to the wiki, this tenet was implemented by Bayek of Siwa after Gamilat, the leader of the Nabatean rebels in the Sinai Peninsula used the slaughter of innocents as martyrs to recruit more people to the cause. So it’s not a problem with narrative if Alexios/Kassandra kill countless people. They didn’t operate on the same rules as Ezio or Altaïr did.

That has nothing to do with it. The fact remains, both Kassandra and Alexios are inconsistent protagonists. Just like previous comment wrote, you can butcher an entire town, and on the next one you do their sidequests while choosing wholesome dialogue options, and helping everyone. And just when you're done with it you can go and kill everyone, nothing happens, no consequence, no notoriety, you might get some mercenaries after you, but with late-game builds you can almost one-shot them.
@JohnKidd1164 жыл бұрын

It’s not about what “rules they operated on” it’s the fact that everyone you’re killing you’re just doing it... because. I am absolutely biased because I am a major history buff and drooled when I heard about this game being in Ancient Greece. Having played and absolutely loved Origins, I came here playing it the same way only to be disappointed by the bad voice acting (dialogue in general half the time), odd design choices such as no shield, and of course the grindy repetitive quests you need to do to level up to continue the main quests. This game, for me at least, is best enjoyed as exploring the beautiful world, doing the REAL side quests (not the shitty formulaic ones from the boards like deliveries or kill 5 sharks), get progressively better loot, and blank the map in checkmarks by completing every location. The narrative of this game frustrated me so much. Especially in regards to Nikolaus and Stentor. I spared Nikolaus, but the world acted as if I had killed him. You never even tell anyone that you didn't kill him when other characters bring it up! This comes to a head way later when Stentor tries to kill you. In my version, Nikolaus just showed up and revealed that he still lives. There shouldn't be any tangible reason for Stentor to believe that Nikolaus is dead, but the game still treats this like a major reveal. There's a bunch of other stuff like this, and it really just rubs me the wrong way, because it makes me feel like my choices don't have a lot of weight.

After playing Witcher 3, empty RPG games like this really do not compare. Almost every mission was a glorified fetch quest with no real choices or impact. There wasn't any memorable characters and the combat was a bit weird. The game itself is beautiful but the open world is almost completely empty. Side missions suck and the main storyline itself is mediocre at best.

Adam Mendez agreed. The Witcher is the best rpg game of all time. Other games need to step it up or don’t be RPG!!!

The combat is def better than the witchers,memorable characters are an subjective thing,i can remember anyone besides the dwarf that i liked in witcher 3 since most of dialog was filled with „ive heard than one before“ and the witchers personality was set while you could heavily influence how kassandra acts,your choice might no mattered that much but you could make your character react how you want him too

@@SwaggerHarrystlyesminecrafter Im in a really interesting spot because I just quit Odyssey after reaching level 32, and began playing the Witcher 3 after buying it on a whim. Keep in mind, I'm someone who never played an AC game before this one, and could care less about how ubi abandoned their old story. In fact, I got it because I am a huge history nerd and wanted to experience ancient Greece in this game. After I reached the point in the game where you attempt to help the doctor, I couldn't play anymore. I was enamored with the world and the characters at first, but after over 20 hrs of gameplay, everything got extremely stale. The same variations of locations, lifeless npc's, no real consequences for interacting with the world, like siding with athens or sparta, killing civilians, etc, and even the way you could never influence Kassandra's character development beyond a certain point. It got to a point where the only thing I enjoyed in the game was the combat, more specifically the stealth, but eventually, the same routine way you interact with enemies (which in most cases are about 3 variations of soldier) made the combat boring too. This was made way worse when enemies would actually spot me, as the combat would devolve into me (a stealth archery build) running away and emptying about 40 arrows into the enemies while mashing the r2 button, with the same 3 combat arts interspersed within in the same way. Eventually, I couldn't even play the game for more than 10 minutes at a time, and ended up ultimately deleting it for storage. After playing the witcher, I don't understand how AC Odyssey is better than it in any respect. While in Odyssey, you tackle the same 3 or 4 variations of enemies over and over again, The Witcher, especially in higher difficulties, forces you to learn the weaknesses of the countless enemy types and plan very specific and detailed strategies for certain encounters. For example, you can brew potions for buffs, use bombs, or learn how to use magic to exploit an enemy weakness. But in Odyssey, enemies dont have weaknesses to exploit. They are one dimensional damage sponges that you either assassinate or stab and shoot countless times before they die. I believe the biggest difference between the two games for me was the side quests. I had so many times where the witcher's sidequests wowed me with just how much detail they contained. I even reloaded saves and tried different options for sidequests and I would sometimes even get completely different sets of content than before. But in Odyssey, the sidequests were often one dimentional "go here, kill/get this". While a lot of the witcher's sidequests are like this in essence, they have so much more detail and varied options that you simply can't compare the two. Its telling to me that I struggle to remember any sidequests from Odyssey beyond the Minotaur one, which is the only mythical creature quest I attempted because I was only level 32. Honestly, I want to know what makes people really like this game's gameplay, because after a long time, I simply couldn't have fun with the game anymore. I dont want to come across as a witcher elitist, I havent even finished the game, but I also can't understand people that say that the witcher is worse in any way beyond the visuals, since odyssey's world is so beautifully rendered. In short, Odyssey became incredibly boring after the novelty wore off, and I dont really believe it deserved to be a game of the year contender, especially with how the grindy gameplay with leveling walls insentivized microtransactions

I appreciate everything you said in that first section! I just finished the game and both dlcs and I gotta say, it might be my favorite in the franchise overall. I watched like 4 different channel reviews after finishing and these people couldn’t say one good thing about the game. I was like am I going crazy? Am I the only one who thoroughly enjoyed this game? Am I the only one who isn’t caught up in what this series was a decade ago vs. the new direction they’re going? It’s like they made all these changes cause critics and fanboys had all these complaints. Like this series is overall waaay better now! Back before AC 4 I felt like the story, (which was phenomenal) was the main reason I played the game. Like I could literally finish a game in 2-3 days because it wasn’t especially difficult to get through, nor were side stuff that Interesting. Now having so much content to explore and do really is turning me a fan all over again. I don’t understand when people say the game ended with Desmond because of all the mundane present day stuff that happened between AC4 and Syndicate. I really love this new story arc and delving into the mystery that’s been surrounding the Isu since they were introduced. Although they should probably work on Layla’s personality a bit. I was really liking her until her bizarre antics really started coming out in the Fate of Atlantis. Not sure if they want us to start turning against her now or what? Very mixed signals. Other than that, fantastic game and my favorite in the series.

Look, I get that game mechanics and game theory evolve with the trends and changing times. *But IF a game is going to diverge from lore and canon - then it shouldn't be included in "that" universe.* Ubisoft could have made Odyssey anything BUT an AC game, and I think they would have been just fine. Overall, it has ALWAYS been the story that keeps fans of the franchise coming back. Odyssey broke a lot of people's spirit about the series. Unity had issues - but they were not a product of it deviating from a meaningful story in the AC universe. I get that some didn't like Arno's personality - or that the game started out *very* buggy - but I honestly never heard the backlash against Unity for breaking lore like I have with Odyssey. *It could be that Odyssey has no Assassins or Hidden Ones.* The game-play with some of the mythological characters felt gratuitous - as if Ubisoft saw a trend with God of War and wanted to duplicate that success. 🤔 I would have been FAR happier with Odyssey if it had been marketed honestly as a Spartan mercenary game with a little bit of AC thrown in.... I blame myself for not picking up on the signals that Ubi was sending without actually being forthright that they just wanted to monetize a gaming trend in their own way. A unique IP or a spin-off IP would have been more honest.

Dude, I just figured it out. They’re just remaking the old assassin’s creed games just with an open world RPG style. If you think about it, assassin‘s creed one is somewhat similar to assassin‘s creed origins? It’s like the birthplace of what we know as assassin’s creed. Then assassin‘s creed odyssey is just the same as assassin‘s creed four, just with an open world RPG style. Assassin’s creed Valhalla reminds you of assassins Creed three; think about it, you’re big, you’re buff, you’re part of a tribe not that different from the Indians. You literally go to America in that game!

I am a stealth person and it felt great in Odyssey. They made it where you can be a warrior or Assassin. To me it was the perfect balance. I was one of those people that hated the thought of Assassin's Creed Orgins and wanted the old game style to return just judging it based off the videos i seen of the game play and Odyssey also. Once i played Orgins all that hate went out the window for both games. I love the new direction and had never played an RPG style game before, now i am hooked. The stealth in my opinion is done way better in Orgins and Odyssey than in past old Assassin Creed games. I have not played Valhalla yet but i am looking forward to it. Yes it is not true to Assassin's Creed of old but I still very much love the new direction and can care less about them staying true to Assassin's Creed tradition.

About fast travel - did you ignore the fact that you can also fast travel to your ship AND any port you've been near to? Being able to fast travel to ports doesn't force you to synchronize and activating them to be available happens from a very generous distance away (I often hadn't even been to the port itself). As a second point, you missing a synchro point is your own fault, you should never leave an area before going to them all. The game even incentivises this by having Ikaros' "ability" level up after a certain amount of synchros.

I think your view on the 'Sickness in Kethalonia' feature was rather indulgent to Ubisoft. It was done well on that occasion, but i don't think the idea of long term cause and effect was ever really explored again in the game. It reeks of something that was made specifically to be exhibited at demo events, so that the marketing team could say "Look, even the smallest decisions in seemingly minor side-quests have consequences!"
