My Cyberpunk 2077 Critique: • Cyberpunk 2077 - Truly...
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Cyberpunk 2077 is a 2020 action role-playing video game developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt, based on video game designer Mike Pondsmith's game series. Set in a dystopian Cyberpunk universe, the player assumes the role of "V" (played by Gavin Drea/Cherami Leigh), a mercenary in the fictional Californian city known as "Night City", where they deal with the fallout from a heist gone wrong that results in an experimental cybernetic "bio-chip" containing an engram of the legendary rock star and terrorist Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves) threatening to slowly overwrite V's mind; as the story progresses V and Johnny must work together to find a way to be separated and save V's life.
The game's development began following the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Blood and Wine (2016). The game was developed by a team of around 500 people using the REDengine 4 game engine. CD Projekt launched a new division in Wrocław, Poland, and partnered with Digital Scapes, Nvidia, QLOC, and Jali Research to aid the production. Cyberpunk creator Mike Pondsmith was a consultant, and actor Keanu Reeves had a starring role. The original score was led by Marcin Przybyłowicz, and featured the contributions of several licensed artists. After years of anticipation, CD Projekt released Cyberpunk 2077 for PlayStation 4, Stadia, Windows, and Xbox One on 10 December 2020, followed by PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on 15 February 2022.
Cyberpunk 2077 received praise from critics for its narrative, setting, and graphics. However, some of its gameplay elements received mixed responses while its themes and representation of transgender characters received some criticism. It was also widely criticized for bugs, particularly in the console versions which suffered from performance problems. Sony removed it from the PlayStation Store from December 2020 to June 2021 while CD Projekt rectified some of the problems. CD Projekt became subject to investigations and class-action lawsuits for their perceived attempts at downplaying the severity of the technical problems before release; these were ultimately cleared with a settlement of US$1.85 million. By September 2022, the game has sold more than 20 million copies. An expansion, Phantom Liberty, is set to release on 26 September 2023 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A sequel was announced.

The mistake was porting the game to the old gen, it was clearly not aimed for that, and its was a middle of development "corpo" decision. And is still has some weird bugs, at least over 2.0 version, but nothing major.

@@FableBlazeI fully agree with you my friend. This game was and still is too overhyped and it is still no way near anything CDPR was promoting and promising years before release. Yes the 2.0 update may have enhanced the game to a better state but the current state of the game should have been there on release.

honestly, if they just didn't try to force the game out on last gen, the reception would have been a lot better. while PC and current gen were still buggy, they weren't even close to how bad last gen was. But then again they'd probably have received backlash for not putting it on last gen, at least back in 2020, though i'd imagine less than they got from what did happen

I’ve been on this game since the 1.5 update and it quickly became my favorite game of all time. I recommend everyone to check this game out, especially with the 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty. @mordor1779
@mordor1779 Жыл бұрын
@@raidermaxx2324 the first person perspective allowed them to create this dialogue system in real time where you keep control of your character during conversations and can still chose what to answer while driving or moving around and it makes the game feel so much more natural and immersive, because there isnt any cuts from the gameplay to the dialogues like in other RPGs like witcher, starfield etc. That wouldn't have been possible in a third person game. Because in third person the game needs to zoom on the NPCs face during conversations so that you can see their faces, which means taking control from the player and lock you in the same position without being able to move during dialogues. Plus third person makes the combat much slower which doesn't fit into this game at all there is so many implants and talents that allow your character to move at really high speed, dash in the air or jump really high, it would look so weird in third person. Making this game third person is so much sacrifice in terms of gameplay and immersion just so that " you can see your character "

Dogtown is insane. Small in surface area sure, but it feels so much bigger and has so much verticality. I did the intro last night and it took me 5 hours on very hard, that boss fight was hard man. It is such a strong start, the writing, the characters, world building. This is so far CDPR at their absolute top of their game. I'm getting same vibes in quality I was getting Hearts of Stone's writing, and that's the best praise I can give so far. And Hearts of Stone is for me one of the best video game stories ever and CDPR's best story to date. I know people love Blood and Wine, but story wise HoS is just supreme.

@@MK-ww1se No the reason for that was the arrogance of their investors and management. The fact that it has taken them a further 3 years to actually complete, and the fact they did it for "free", shows how rushed and under pressure they were. I don't blame the Devs in the slightest, I commend them for seeing it through. As someone who has thousands of hours in the base game and have been playing in the hardest difficulty throughout, I can, without a doubt, say that the AI changes make the early game much more difficult. They take cover more, they use cyberware more, and they even use boosters to heal themselves now. So I think around mid to late game when you've leveled up a lot and have gotten a lot of perks and cyberware, it will feel easier than the base game, but early game is definitely more difficult now.

Just finished. My top moments: - As the plane crashes into dogtown - Great Idis Elba introduction - When you use the netrunner to find songbird, really cool the way the time stops with the red matrix VFX - Party at Hanson tower, the Phoenix performance, very cool - The excruciating dilemma to side with Songbird or Reed aaaarrrrghhhh (and the following escape was pretty cool) Through the whole game only a couple of minor Annoyances: - After playing for a few hours my game started to lag only when opening and closing menus, but fixes itself on reload. - Getting a bit annoyed after 17th death to the unkillable Songbird/AI/"aliens" robot hallways mission

I don't think it's correct to say cyberpunk 2077 is now what it was supposed to be because they haven't overhauled the main missions. The fact that you felt that within the first two hours of the expansion you had already experienced more epic set pieces and high production quality action sequences than in the entirety of the base game proves that the main missions had a lot of missed potential. This game won't live up to my expectations without that issue being sorted, but the fact that I've racked up more than 300 hours of playing the game suggests that it's a pretty good game anyway.

cyberpunk is a ubisoft checklist world devoid of anything to actually do. no new gear to unlock after 6 or so hours in the game since all 15 or so weapons are available by that point and iconic weapons are just colorful versions. cars are usless since you can fast travel everywhere and they almost all handle the same anyway. i really cannot understand why people say 2.0 is such a game changer. its nothing, they added police which cant properly chase you still after 2 years of working on it, and guns on cars so you can park on ncpd hustles and wipe them. if anybody actually played the game on release they would know virtually nothing of substance has changed except for performance in the past 2 years. how on gods green fucking earth are you actually going to sit here and say 1 new district and a questline is worth 30 dollars.

This was kind of my issue. I never understood why people and CDPR wanted vehicle combat. Are you gonna gun down some random NPC on the sidewalk who has absolutely no loot to give you? In my play through I never once had an interaction with the cops. Don’t even think I got a wanted level because there was never a reason to just randomly start blasting the sidewalk. No mission ended with me being chased by cops. It’s an empty solution to a problem that never existed. There is zero reason to interact with anyone outside of a mission. 100% idk what conspired to have them release the game when it clearly wasn't ready, but hopefully they aren't ever tempted to do it again. It could be that with the old consoles on the way out, they wanted to grab that market even though there's no earthly way this game would run well on those. Interesting that as soon as CDPR shifted to current gen exclusively, the game started improving exponentially.

@JuicedOnKids wasn't worth the huge hit to their reputation imo. On the other hand, (playing devils advocate here), if the game is only really finished just now, that woulda been 3 more years of dev with no ROI, shareholders would be irate, as well as the fanbase for having to wait that long. No doubt it was a horrible decision but I see how it could have happened.

@JuicedOnKids Yes, and they had already postponed the release twice, had a tight budget and received 8 million pre-orders. Their shareholders were worried that people would start canceling pre-orders and pressured them to release the game. It looks like management is to blame, but also the developers either weren't assertive enough to tell how much more time they really needed, or they got their estimates wrong. It also seems to me to be the fault of the RED Engine, which should have been retired after The Witcher 3 and is not suitable for such a complex game.

Haven't tried the DLC but only 2.0 and I don't really share your view that it feels like a new game at all, but rather a better optimized and smoother game experience. Given how many times they have reworked the skill system (Which is good if it improves it), it also shows that it was terrible in the first release. From what you are saying about the DLC, I believe that it might be what they wanted CP to be originally. But even with 2.0, the original CP on its own, I don't think makes up for the promises made about the game, especially the "All choice matters" statements (Within limits), which to me at least is the most crucial statement they made that they didn't fulfil. 2.0 as I see it, is but a bandage on these promises. That being said, I did enjoy CP and I have no doubt that I will enjoy the expansion as well, but will wait until it goes on sale :)

The day I started playing was the day the negative reviews came out. I tried to like it, but it was an absolute mess. Never finished it. Now I bought it again for Steam Deck in 2023 and I'm hooked. Everything about it is improved and it runs amazing on Steam Deck. There are some many fun things to explore. Side missions are great. Theres little easter eggs and fun things to find everywhere. The combat is fast and smooth. The story was always good and the character animations and voicovers are outstanding. I did notice some differences, but nothing game changer. It's a little bit like if Starfield fixed their "small issues". The AI works better, and some RPG elements to, so the enemies are not as st*pid, the police reacts better to what you do, and NPCs will escape with their cars if you aim at them with a weapon, instead of leaving the car and running away + now you have a reason to try a few more builds, altho blades still broken. I feel like people were to harsh on Cyberpunk, and now they're trying to do a complete 180. Like... what happened to all the huge issues everyone were talking about, like dialogue options, story, etc? The main problem with the game on release WERE THE BUGS and how poorly the game was running on previous gen hardware, like PS4 and Xbox One, making the game completely unplayable on previous gen consoles, and a lot of people's hardwares on PC to, but not the game on it's "core". Because people like to complain, they brought up a lot of other issues that, as has just been demonstrated, were either small, or were not issues in the first place, because the "base game" it's the same one now. If you didn't like the setting, the story, the music, the characters and the gameplay, guess what? It's not that different now. Let's not pretend like if this was No Man's Sky 2.0, because it wasn't. It's closer to The Last Of Us Part 1 on PC or Batman Arkham Knight's port + a few small changes. For me they're small, because when the police is after me, I try to escape as soon as possible, and I don't care, the way enemies react to me don't matter that much as soon as you get a little bit more powerful, because, just like in Starfield, they die to fast for you to see how they react, and the RPG changes were more reasons to use other builds, pretty much, so that explains why they want you to start the game from scratch, to see if you like something different now, and to get used to the new changes. That's it.

It's interesting how quick people are to forget and forgive. Go back to when CP was released. Heck even just before. The amount of threats and BS people threw at the devs. And today, we're just gonna be "oh, CDPR are the best, I love them, let me lick their boots please, they can do no wrong." Seriously, are we this easy to fool? CDPR was indeed one of the best devs out there. None of the greed that certain other studios have. Which they gladly highlighted and pointed out to score browniepoints with the gaming community. Then they release CP2077. And it's a disaster. Threats and childish behavior from a big part of the gaming community. CDPR was NOT to be trusted again. Today, we're praising them AGAIN. And even someone like Luke, who claims this and that. Consider the launch of CP2077 to be a 'fluke' ? That CDPR was just...what? Unlucky, did an oopsie and now all is forgiven? Do I need to remind you, that CDPR intentionally(read: *Intentionally* ) mislead YOU, me, and everyone else. When they KNEW the game was garbage, and tried to hide it even from reviewers. They literally LIED, and tricked *everyone* including you and you, and yoooou. But that's all water under the bridge now, because the game is finally good? That automatically makes their past sh-t forgotten, forgiven, and worthy of our money? Wow, we apparently have ZERO standard as gamers it seems. I wouldn't throw $1 at CDPR. I will never ever buy CP2077 or any expansions. They. Are. Not. Worthy. Of. Our. Money. If they made an oopsie, and had NO idea what state their OWN (read, their OWN game) was in back when it launched, then one might be able to forgive and move on. But they intentionally lied and tricked *US*. Sony removing it from PS-store isn't just a reaction to a "fluke". Death threates and that silly stuff some people resorted to, isnt done just because of a 'fluke'. People were pissed because CDPR *lied* Read that again, LIED, to you, to us. But hey, if peoples lives are SO effing boring that they jump on any game that comes out, I guess their standard really is sh-t. And feel free to defend CDPR, you still cannot take away the truth, the facts. You're just fooling yourself, and allowing others to take advantage of you, by simply shrugging and run out and buying anything CP2077-related. It could very well be a masterpiece, best thing that happened in a decade. Even IF that were the case, it still doesnt excuse their earlier behaviour. See why the greedy companies keeps using Microtransactions and stuff, despite "everyone" hating it? Because people just forget after 2 days, and then they run out and buy the same crap again, rinse and repeat. Look at NBA2K, last year it was a shitstorm around that game, and the year before that. I even said in one of the videos, that I bet same thing will happen next year, people will still buy the game they just took a dump on. And then they'll come whining online again how the game sux because of the greed. When will people actually LEARN? If you burn yourself on the stove, shouldn't you have learned by then, to NOT put your hand on the stove, preferably NEVER? People are ..dumb. Yet they sit online and pretend they're so smart and clever. Luke is someone I always..well almost always agreed with, we seem to be on the same page with many things. But this video alone, made me lose a ton of respect for this guy. But hey, enjoy the game. It's financed by the fools that enjoys being stepped on :)

Player POV: Shiny thing > buy shiny thing > shiny thing is actually dirty > wait three years for buffing > get thing back , but cleaner ( only cleaner if you have the vison(i.e.. console) to see it .and if you don't..... find alternative hobbies. Developer POV: get praised for adding complete-ish game > use hype to obliterate the memory of older gen consoles and the fact they still own a broken game because they cant afford a new console > make new game > promise never to push a game title to gain older generation console money (only verbally/ mostly inaudibly) > ignore last point and sell incomplete-ish game > use funds to fix game > repeat for 10 years> subvert expectation by making a great game....trailer.

Nah, they had their chance. They lied, delayed, lied, delayed, lied again and now three years later have the audacity to charge for a DLC that only makes a small area better. The base game and missions are still the same, the three starting "choices" don't matter, etc. I'm surprised you've given them such an easy free pass here for slapping a new coat of paint on top and calling it a day.

I just started the game again, it really does feel like a totally different game, on launch the city felt dead and completely lifeless. The city feels alive and wild now. It's literally the best version it can be at this point. Really great stuff.

CDPR should not be praised for this. Im glad the game is better now but we can't forget the fact they ripped off everyone who bought the original version. This is what we should have gotten at first

I played at launch on PC. Installed it last week on PS5 and spent 16 hours on the prologue alone (until the end of the Konpeki plaza). Simply chose to move around enjoying the views, ran or drove (like a sane person) to the next objective, a random job or side quest - did that as well. It will definitely take me 100+ hours to fully complete the game with the main story, side quests, gigs, expansions, etc.

I’m super attached to my OG V so I’ll probably do both. Start over with a new V but also continue my OG Vs story and choose different choices in both

It’s great that they’ve fixed it but I don’t think we should be celebrating, it took two years to fix.

Why is it amazing that this update is free? All it does it puts the game to where they said it was and should have been way back in 2020. They basically just fixed the game 3yrs after launch. It should be free. Lol

I know they said this is the only and last DLC to Cyberpunk, but my god. Please make more DLC, even if it takes another 3 years. This was fucking incredible. It could've been a standalone game. Absolutely breathtaking from start to finish.
