Great video Luke however I disagree with your explanation of asset flips. An asset flip is buying a premade complete game with code and art that's supposed to be used as a base for your own game and just selling it with no or minor changes. Whereas buying assets and putting them into your game you made yourself is not a bad practice for people without art creation skills and shouldn't be looked down upon. It's an important distinction and people's misuse of the term puts a lot of negative pressure on devs to not use paid assets.

Asset-flips in of themselves aren't bad, indie devs, who probably don't have a lot of money to hire artists, really benefit from being able to use ready made assets. So that isn't the main issue nor should it be imo, the main issue is that they don't use those assets to make a good compelling game for the price they're charging.
@greg35764 ай бұрын
Yeah exactly, its really annoying to hear content creators like Luke not understand that the reason pre-made assets exist is for people who can't do art or can't code ect. I rely heavily on premade environmental and prefab art, but I can code. It's all about what you do with it. Even then majority of assets can't just be dragged and dropped into a project and boom game, you need some sort of expertise to setup things like networking, etc.
@jjhaya4 ай бұрын
@@greg3576he really doesn't understand Game Development just like most content creators who talk about games, if you want to criticize a game, don't talk too much about a game using assets, it would just make you look ignorant, assets are there for a reason.
@party4lifedude4 ай бұрын
The point of using pre-fabricated assets is so you can spend your time and effort on other aspects of the game, and you aren't spending months and months just making lamps and trees and small details in Blender. But some people just use nothing but pre-made assets and templates, and throw them all together into something that is the bare minimum of what could legally be considered "a game" just to try to make a few dollars off of people while doing the least work possible. That is what I consider to be an "asset flip". Games that have next to zero lines of original code.

The other very important aspect of asset flips is that they usually buy and make a game solely out of bought assets. Many games and devs use bought assets in their games, and it's not a problem. the issue is that asset flippers make generic or worse versions of popular games, and usually sell them on misleading trailers meant to draw the eyes of streamers.
