When you mention the fact that normal humans can't use the spartan armor : there is actually a scene in the movie "The Fall of Reach" where you see a marine trying the Mark V armor. As soon as he moves his hands, it breaks due to the armor augmentation and the pain causes his whole body to contract, and thus the whole armor crushes him. Long sotry short, the marine died in a few seconds.

to problem is forces acting on you can be dampened using armor like real life yes however a body in spartan armor traveling at terminal volocity hits the ground the armour stops yeah but the spartan doesn't the spartans body is going to carry on traveling that speed untill somthing stops it and that gel even if it could without smashing up the body the internal organs also want to carry on traveling at that speed .. im sure you get the picture . to break a fall you need to be slowed down at a deceleration rate that wont kill you and unless that gel inside the suit is squishy and big enough to slow down a spartan falling from orbit longer than a slit second of the impact (which is impossible) then a gel layer would not stop you from being subject to G's

Correction: the black undersuit is not the gel layer. Immediately against the user's skin is a "moisture absorbing cloth suit and biomonitors that constantly adjust the suit's temperature and fit", on top of that is the pressurized gel layer, on top of that (in the Mark V and on) is "a weave of additional memory processor super conductor" which is how Mjolnir can support a smart AI along with the modifications to Chief's neural interface on the back of his head. Then on top of that we have the black undersuit which is composed of a "new reactive metal liquid crystal" which is what amplifies a Spartan's strength. The last external layer is the titanium alloy outer shell pieces. In the Mark V onward this is also where the shield emitters are held. On top of those green plates is the heat dispersing coating for added protection. All the above info was pulled from Eric Nylund's book The Fall of Reach

I think that since it's called biofoam, that it would only last for a certain amount of time until it dissolved into perhaps a liquid or some form of nutrients. If I recall correctly, in either Contact Harvest or the Fall of Reach, a marine says after using biofoam something along the lines of, "This will stop the bleeding but not forever...". This indicates that the biofoam would dissapate after a given amount of time. Thought of this after you explained the current biofoam-like project and biodegradable clay pidgeons popped up in my mind.

On the biofoam note. We do use something called quick-clot for serious wounds in combat. It doesn't work as well as the biofoam, but it will stop even arterial bleeding. Although, it's not comfy. It gets incredibly hot, enough to cause burns.
@viadelhernandez86667 жыл бұрын
Luke TheNotable, we do have something VERY similar in the Army since 2012 its called Quickclot Combat Gauze, which utilizes kaolin nanoparticles impregnated into gauze. It is designed to stop moderate to severe bleeding and stabilize a combat casualty. However, it is not a foam, and as gauze, it must be packed into the wound. An experimental foam developed in late 2012 by DARPA also bears many similarities to biofoam, as it is capable of packing combat wounds and halting internal bleeding.

On the topic of gel layers, some company made a type of gel layer that gets harder the more force is applied, so a punch will break your hand, and it's moldable, pretty sure that the weakness is lots of pressure applied to one small spot, so basically a single bullet will pass right through while something like an Automatic rifle will spread out the pressure throughout the gel, so very vunrable to snipers, very durable against An AR

I'm pretty sure we were doing tests on something similar to bio-foam a good 5 years ago. LukeTheNotable, you forgot to mention that there is currently a way to stop blood loss in combat situations. I remember we had QuikClot combat gauze in the IFAK. Before that it was in powder form which its use was discontinued because of some of the drawbacks. In order to stop the bleeding a lot of the powder had to be poured on the wound.This would cause a production of heat from the reaction and may cause thermal burns. Another was the if there was a breeze the fine powder may get blown into the eyes causing ocular burns. If the person applying the powder decided to open the pack by tearing it open with their teeth they would get chemical burns around the mouth. Not good.

The suit really just helps enhance what the augmentations already gave them to the fullest. Master chief was able to survive that fall not only because of the jell layer in his suit but because he has a ceramic mesh around his bones, making them nearly unbreakable. Them being tied into their suit through their nural net is great because they've got an augmentation increasing their reaction time and motor control by 300% Not to mention the muscle augmentation being boosted by the armors motor enhancement. Spartans really are the smarter, faster, and stronger
@xproflipscarab6 жыл бұрын
but a impact caused by volocity is much more complicated due to yes armour bones and and the gel layer can all stop without breaking and the gel layer can of corse dampen the impact slightly but traveling at terminal volicity when the armor stops your body carries on traveling that fast untill it meets the armor then your organs keep traveling at that speed until they meet your bones and muscle. forces acted on an area yes easily warped and diverted but acceleration and deceleration are problems

There is a few references stating the cost of just ONE of those suits is as much as a ship in halo cannon. Which I'm sure finding that will be easier than the suit's cost in today's money, ultimately my rough estimate is 1.6 trillion in R&D and 5.5 Billion in a single suit, not to say other companies would have cheaper less effective suits mainly for Spartain III's and IV's as that is a much wider market for contract than Spartain II's. ODST armor is simulator to Spartain armor in a lot of different ways, but can be used by anyone. My idea of micro electronic-hydraulic enhancement suits similar to exo-suits but with finer detail such as improvements on grip, speed, stamina, and overall strength is also proven in cannon as well as Halo: Nightfall. The polarization of the protective glass/polymer is only unique to the ODST's which makes me think that a true Spartain helment sees not using a glass or a polymer rather a camera system that can enhance reflexes by having an AI of some classification or another predict the next move of an object which would further improve the soldier, unlike ODST's who had to rely on instinct rather than technology. The reason why you wouldn't notice the difference is because this is done fractions of a second faster than the time it takes light to travel even faster than what the image to video of today's tech is by using super highspeed cameras and a process that filters out stagnant and actice then uses velocity of that object to predict on screen and notices velocity changes and adjusts protective solutions, this is also why it can accurately judge shots of a weapon based on a predetermined model, and can learn based off of individual weapon and can adjust fire based off of minor variations of round trajectory and impact. This means that no standard computer can process, meaning the suit has a quantum computer built straight into the helmet, which explains further why AI can thrive in that suit VS. another suit. That quantum computer is probably located near the NSI located near the back of the head, major trauma could off-set the computer locking the suit or worse... if an AI is aboard the quantum computer wail such an impact has occurred or receive an AI after damage it could lead to faults within the program such as Cortana... expensive? Very. Tough? Only head on. (See what I did there?) Most of the stuff used in the power armor isn't currently known or used today, but what I can say is the suit has inspired people to try to make this suit, though the closest thing we will get to within our lifetime is the famed ODST armor. That's not including genetic enhancements... to completely answer it using rough estimates.

i think it's mentioned in one of the books that a mjolnir suit costs as much to make as a navy frigate. so, like, several trillion dollars, i'd imagine.

That would be awesome if we could have that equipment.

this was certainly interesting. Doubly so because I am studying biomedical engineering, so this is actually close to what my area of expertise is going to be.

Halo 4/5 master chief armour looks the coolest

You actually do take fall damage on Halo 3. The height you can take fall damage on is just much higher than on CE

I don't remember where I saw it but I believe it costs the same as a frigate class starship in the unsc, however much that costs defiantly more than any one country today could afford

But our troops used to all be issued some quick clot in their first aid kits. I thought that was similar to the bio foam. I never saw it used on anyone, fortunately, but we were told it will blind you if it got in your eyes.

Tbh his older armor from halo 2 & 3 looks so much better and overall more athletic looking as if it's actually made to run around and battle in war than his statuette looking newer armor

There have been multiple instances saying a full suit of Mjolnir armour is the price of a cruiser, or it could be a different type of space vessel

Now I know about MC's bones, muscles and reflexes...what about his brain? A big factor of impact would be his brain banging around inside his own skull. What did the Spartan projects do to help protect against that?

It was explained by Spartan Buck that the suit of armor cost around the same as a UNSC star ship. I don't know how much those are in lore but that would be the comparison. Spartan$=UNSC ship$

Fall damage *IS* present in Halo 3. Small detail, but important.

well. I don't think when the say "small space ship" what it narrows it down to a frigate. I mean, what constitutes as a Space ship? A large fighter? The average price of some of our most advanced fighter aircraft today easily extend past 100 Million dollars. Now since wars have been primarily been fought interplanetary in the Halo universe i think its fair to assume that things would evolve to similar values. So If some one today had a combat suit priced at least 120 Million, then I'd hope it'd do most of those things.
