Another really excellent project, and video. I am impressed by how well you compress information, and adding in all the pips and links.. well, I know that takes time. Really nice. I love the acid etching of the foil for the corrugated roof. You can't get more realistic weathering than that. :) The foil crimping tool is pretty cool. But I shuddered at the fragility of the panels. It's hard to argue with the results though. As a funny aside, I really like your black cutting mat for a background. I might steal that if you won't take offense. ;) I've been thinking a lot more about my bench background and really need to clean it up visually. I've been thinking of white, but black is much closer to my heart. *grin* Nice weathering on the tractor as well. You didn't mention it, but I noticed. It really added a lot to the scene. Overall fantastic scene and content delivery. I always look forward to your videos.
@BoulderCreekRailroad8 жыл бұрын
+Terranscapes Thanks Mike, the foil is obviously very fragile but for the type of scenery I'm building which hardly ever gets touched once it's finished it's ok, but if you used this on a gaming board I'm sure it would get destroyed very quickly. I use a couple of different cutting mats, I really like black as you said it provides a nice clean background but I also like the light blue because sometimes the black clashes with other dark details. It's funny that you noticed the tractor! It was your comment on the last scenery video about adding a little weathering to the tractor that made me ensure I did it for this video... That one was for you ;-) Thanks for giving such great feedback as well, you're one in particular I like to watch and I always take your feedback on board. Cheers Luke.

I donno if someone's asked this before and I couldn't find a video of it already being done, but could you do a chaotic model? maybe a zombie apocalypse or similarly themed display? You've got the ability to simulate fire, smoke and rust. Obviously you're a master modeler, I'm guessing some wrecked cars and buildings, flickering lights, and maybe some bodies and fights wouldn't be difficult for you? You seem like an extremely mellow dude and I'd hate to offend you by suggesting you corrupt the peaceful little environments you obviously enjoy. I'm just thinking it would be very entertaining to see you work your magic on some action.

Doing these models, it would appear to me, especially when being a beginner, of trying to keep all the buildings and decorations within life like size of one another. Of course, that is when you are making most of everything by hand and not ordering everything in a set pre-made.

I think I'd probably use that corrugated iron maker as a form for a mold, then use the mold to cast sheets either from aluminum or maybe plaster of paris. The aluminum foil method is way too fiddly, to my way of thinking. Of course, I have to admit that this entire hobby is too fiddly for my tastes, although your results really are quite spectacular and satisfying.

For weathering the wood, you could also do this. Get a bucket, or a cup, fill it with vinigar, then put steel wool in the bottom. Leave it over night, then just dip the wood structure in the bucket and leave it for a couple minutes, and it will turn out looking weathered.
