A long time ago, Peter Cullen use to do live action work. It was hard for him especially because he had to care for his family and his ranch. A guy offered him voice acting gigs if he promised he would never do live work again. Ever since then, Peter kept his word.

Peter showed Frank Welker the script of the movie. It was blank because Optimus dies. They were both shocked. Even though he died and he hated it, Peter thought he had to make it sound good for the character’s demise to be convincing and upsetting.
