Hop on board as we go through the departure from Lukla, Nepal.
We are flying a PAC750 XSTOL. We have just dropped off our load of cargo and now head back to Ramechhap. Take off is a lot simpler than landing, though care must be taken during your take off roll - compressor stalls are more common at these higher altitudes, particularly if too aggresive with engine controls.
The sky is clear, winds are calm and we've beaten the morning rush!
Footage was taken pre pre pre pre covid - in 2014 😁
👌☀️😎

The flight panel is so clean on that aircraft...it's so clear of clutter. Maybe it's the white coloring of the panel that makes it look so clear and easy to read and distinguish the gauges.

Thanks for the flight, that was fun. I’ve watched many of these Lukla vids. I just assumed there would be fuel available. That you have to carry everything you need for the trip out and back plus reserves helps to drive home the extreme rural-ness out there.

@@JimboBurgess So, no late go-arounds then. Once you're past a certain point you're committed? In that respect (only) I guess it resembles St Barts or Courchevel. P.S. I understood one big secret for all pilots taking off from lukla airport, and it is at first accelarate your plane as finally as you can, and then, let your plane run at the highest speed, and while reach the maximud speed for flight, hold up your plane and take care to crush the mountains sorroundind the airport, and in landing time, check your air controller's order, if your runway is free or not, because its busy airport usually, take care, lukla is another pilot experience test

As fascinating as it is, I'm surprised how a pilot, after all his hard work training, would risk his life on every flight over a mountainous area like this, in a single engine aeroplane. If that engine fails, there is a pretty good chance that he would not survive.
