So very familiar. We worked at Tiom in West Papua 1973-75 and MAF serviced our area. Our daughter was born at Mulia. She is 48 now. My wife is now passed. A trek that took me 2 days, we could cover in a 10 minute flight. So many memories. The Danis were wonderful people.

In 30 years of flying, I have had two engine outs. Both times I had the altitude to reach a runaway but even if I had not made a runway though there were still decent options (fields/clearings/roads) available. Still, I am always looking for a spot to land in an emergency. In all of that incredibly beautiful scenery, I did not see any place to survive an engine out other than the two runways! You gotta love having that turbine huh? :) (EDIT: On a second watch I did notice a riverbed off the end of Pending that could be survivable!)
