Having policies like this, like the hosts discussed on this video has much more wider issues in society than simply hurting the 'giant businesses' bottom line. It incentivizes more theft because its essentially being treated as ok, it creates more criminals who can simply quit their low-paying job to steal if its ok and it makes both the employees, the community and the customers of these stores more unsafe. In places where this policy is the worst even the 'giant' corporations have failed and it only hurts the people in the community, the business doesn't go under. Off the top of my head, cracker barrel, walgreens, whole foods, even walmart has closed multiple locations across san francisco, portland and chicago due to rampant theft. You think thats 'not a big deal'? All those corporations are still doing ok but they close these stores if it gets bad enough because the stores are a failure, they don't make money anymore if 1/3 of their merchandise is stolen monthly. What would happen if locally in these areas was spread across the country? It would be chaos if 70% of ALL walmarts, walgreens etc had 1/3 of their merchandise stolen then they would be in trouble. You gotta think ahead here you're thinking like a simpleton in this regard. Its much bigger if this continues than just a few corporations losing some money.

The employees were told the RIGHT AND SAFE AND SMART thing to do by employers. It was only hard because of gun culture comic book hero worship fantasy culture. No coming back from getting customer killed to stop the theft of trinkets. A employee at bare minimum needs to be able to accept and understand this. Go play cowboy superhero on your own time. Yes it is outrageous - The Manager is to be commended a Hero she should sue the hell out of the LuLuLemon Store for sacking her or anyone who literally stood up for the Store and Owners - I worked in "Retail" many years back where the standing orders said staff were not allowed to go outside the counter to engage the customers I said to me manage what a good company it was. He told me it wasn't for my protection but the customers. The Owner also managed and promoted Boxers and they were employed as "Managers" whilst not fighting a customer got well and truly "sorted out" by a manager. In the end it is the customer who always pays prices will go up. Maybe the stores employ security guards (oxer types with guns) who are willing to act. It looked like the merchandise stolen would have paid for them at least for a period of time.
