Lumary RGB downlights are an easy way to add color and fun to rooms with existing recessed lighting. They're available in 4 or 6 inch diameters which are the most common sizes in homes. Installation is as simple as screwing in a light bulb so this is truly a do it yourself retrofit project. They look just like any other recessed LED light. But the big difference is the Lumary lights do have RGB capability. As far as installation goes, all I have to do is screw in the power connector.
They're available as a single unit all the way up to 12-packs. Before proceeding, I'm going to download and create an account on the Lumary app which is available for iPhone and Android. And just so you know, setting up a Lumary account is required to use the app. I this is probably a deal breaker for some people but it is necessary!
Installation is super simple! Anyone can do this! Just take the new Lumary light and screw in the connector just like a light bulb. Then gently wrap the wiring around the fixture and slide the whole thing into the can. Now when I turn on the room lights, the Lumary light will start blinking.
While the light is blinking, tap on Add Device on the Lumary app. Next to the Lighting category, tap on Plug (BLE+WiFi). Before continuing on, confirm that the light is still blinking. From here I can check mark the circle and and tap Next. Now I need to connect to my 2.4Ghz WiFi signal. And even though I have a dual band router with 5G, the Lumary recessed lights only work with 2.4Ghz. At this point I'll enter my WiFi password and wait on the connection process. When the light has been detected tap on the Plus button in the list. And now I can use my phone to turn it on and off and also change colors.
I'll list the Lumary lights here in the description so it's easy for you to find. To replace all 8 lights in my room it took less than 10 minutes. Once installed, they can produce warm and cool white light but color is more fun to look at so that's what I'm focusing on in the video. Each light can be controlled independently so I can set the color and brightness exactly how I like. The other cool thing is that I can also create groups to be able to control 2 or more lights at a time.
Here's how to group lights together. In the app, select one of the lights in the list. Then tap the pencil icon at the top right. Here scroll down and tap on Create Group. On this screen I'll tap on all the lights to include. I'm just going to add all the lights I installed. Then tap Save. Here I can also rename the group to make it easier to distinguish between other groups I've created. When done I'll tap Save again and it'll take me to the group's settings. Now I can turn all the lights in this group on or off at the same time. I can also change the entire room's color as well.
Lumary has also preset scenes so I can set certain colors and moods with the touch of one button. Now that a group has been programmed, I can set all the lights to music mode. To me, this is definitely a fun way to use the Lumary recessed lights. The app actually uses the phone's microphone to capture audio for this effect. And just so you know, the fluctuations are random and there's not really a way to coordinate any patterns. But in my large room with 8 lights I can tell you it looks really cool.
The Lumary lights can also be voice controlled with Alexa. To activate this feature, tap on the more button on the Alexa app. Then tap on Skills and Games. Here do a search for Lumary and then enable the Lumary skill. In addition to Alexa voice control, you can also use this with Google Home as well.
And here's a final note. If you have any problems with the lights, you can do a reset them by cycling the physical wall switch on and off 3 times. Hi thanks for this video. I have lights in my soffits, and I would like to group the bulbs red and green. Every Christmas I manually have to remove bulbs, and install the color at the particular location. Can you post a video that can represent reds and greens.

Hi I have a important question, I have a Alexa and have the account linked to it but how do I make it so I can say to Alexa, “Alexa turn on music mode” so I don’t have to put a phone up to Alexa and play the music from the Alexa to the phone. So I can just pick a song and say for Alexa to turn on music mode?

Did you install a connector for each light.. Are did you tap the wires in to the original connector

Right out of the box these lights are ready to be screwed into a light fixture just like a light bulb. Super easy! In one part of the video I showed how to disconnect the wire but there’s no need to do that. Maybe to make it easier to screw in without the light dangling. But no extra steps were needed to install these RGB recessed lights. Hope this helps!

Nice video! I am interested in replacing my br30 6" can lights in 9' flat ceilings with recessed retrofit fixtures. I really want to see if I can have dimmer switch enabled/controlled white color changing 2700k-5000k soft white to daylight fixtures. I am using toggle switch dimmers, not wifi dimmer switches. I do NOT want fixture slider switch enabled color change, only dimmer switch color change ability.. Not interested in ability for Alexa or google or app changing. Do you know of this?

Do this lights always flash colors or can the color be 1 steady color?

With these RGB lights they can be set to one steady color. In the app just use the color picker and choose the static color you want. Hope this helps!

The lights shown in my video require a can installed in the ceiling. But Lumary has a version that doesn’t require a can. I think it just holds onto a hole in the drywall on the ceiling. When you look up these lights you’ll see that model. However you still have to get them wired up but if your ceiling is opened up that shouldn’t be a problem!
