I’ve lost 70lbs and it’s been keto , low carb no sugar. I had ordered the Lumen but after 2 weeks I returned it. I intermittent fast … I’m now down to 20/4 basically one meal a day 6PM. The Lumen started off saying I was burning my body fat and then every day after it was moving a digit in the opposite direction which made zero sense (I also blood test for KETOSIS) so I really questioned this device… another thing is after a period of time I don’t see what purpose it would serve. Another thing I HATED was I would have to do it twice every morning to get it right and it just became a pain… too much work for little payback and payback that I don’t know how it could be accurate… as I said I’m down 70 Lbs. The plus side was they were very good about returning but the window is tight. 💞

Lumen can't detect Ketosis and it's not a low-carb diet so doing Keto while using Lumen is like swimming against the current. Lumen is educated carb cycling which doesn't fit with Keto at all.
@roadfert
@roadfert Жыл бұрын
When you’re in Ketosis your body is making glucose via gluconeogenisis so there is still glucose in your system. A lot of people on Keto experience what’s known as The Dawn Effect which includes high blood sugar in the morning which your Lumen would pick up. I found the same thing when using the Lumen and following their carb recommendations. For me, Carb Backloading has me in the “fat burn” numbers every morning.

Thanks for this comparison video. I too wish Lumen was more granular, but still luv it. I use a different CGM for type-2 diabetes, but like having both. I'm making steady progress reversing my type-2 diabetes. Please keep the great info and videos coming.

Great video. Thank you. I’ve noticed that all the videos reviewing these products are you fit trim people speaking extensively about their exercise schedules ect. However these videos are marketed to people who are overweight and need to get healthy. 88% of Americans are overweight and even less exercise regularly so it’s hard to watch all you young lean fit people talking about healthy living. Many like me, the targeted individuals, want to know will they help use gain insight into our eating and help us make healthy food choices to lose weight. After watching at least 30 video on both of these products I still have no idea. I gained a lot of information from you videos so thank you.

I hear ya. Both of these products are very good at teaching. They show you what is and is not working for you so you can avoid or improve upon the bad decisions. They also are educational power-houses. Meaning they are constantly teaching you ways to be healthier so you know what to do. If you go into them with an open mind wanting to learn and use the information they provide, I really do believe they can help you reach your health goals. Good luck!

I've been using Lumen for about 9 months. If you access the information they give you it's really rather easy combined with IF (think 15-17, 16-8, 17-9) it's a great tool. I like that if I eat a donut it doesn't have to throw me off. I can plan my day around that donut and make it fit (don't recommend doing this often) or Maybe I can eat half a donut. If I skip a day it doesn't take 5 days to get back on track. It's not as restrictive as Keto or Paleo and it's cheaper than most really guided meal plans. 200+ sounds like a lot but that's for a year. The last plan I did was around that per month. Levels is a little pricier than I would prefer maybe if I hadn't tried Lumen first I might not view it that way.

I am working on my next Lumen video and was planning on discussing a lot of the points you brought up. Glad to hear the structure has worked so well for you! Agree on price. I think the paying all at once and then having to renew annually gets a lot of people.
@chiefschicktx

@@Learnwithtravis True, there used to be 3 months subs I think, now it's only 6 and a year so you may as well go for the year. One month would be pretty pointless though. I was determined so I went with the long one. I see they have the duo subscription now. It makes it a little cheaper for couples but it only has one device. When I got mine I got a $100 coupon to pass on. I passed it to my husband and he got his. We have two devices which I prefer because right now my husband is out of town so one of us wouldn't have a device with the duo. I think they did that because people were asking for it but I don't think one device for two people is practical.

Accuracy and Precision: Accuracy refers to the closeness of a measured value to a standard or known value. For example, if in lab you obtain a weight measurement of 3.2 kg for a given substance, but the actual or known weight is 10 kg, then your measurement is not accurate. In this case, your measurement is not close to the known value. Precision refers to the closeness of two or more measurements to each other. Using the example above, if you weigh a given substance five times, and get 3.2 kg each time, then your measurement is very precise. Precision is independent of accuracy. You can be very precise but inaccurate, as described above. You can also be accurate but imprecise. For example, if on average, your measurements for a given substance are close to the known value, but the measurements are far from each other, then you have accuracy without precision. A good analogy for understanding accuracy and precision is to imagine a basketball player shooting baskets. If the player shoots with accuracy, his aim will always take the ball close to or into the basket. If the player shoots with precision, his aim will always take the ball to the same location which may or may not be close to the basket. A good player will be both accurate and precise by shooting the ball the same way each time and each time making it in the basket.

Thank you so much Joann! The nice thing about Levels is you don't always need the sensor. What I would do is order the sensor, do a full month so you can get all the data in the app but also the weekly and monthly reports. Then take a break from the sensors and spend time using all that information to improve. Then a month or two later, come back and do another round. I know it has a cost to it but can you learn so much. Specially if you are motivated to improve your carb intake. Hope that helps!

Which glucose monitor did you pick? I heard the Libre one has issues calibrating. Also, I saw you on your prior Levels review that you haven’t compared with Nutrisense. There are some good comparison sites with information. NS website seems cleaner and more robust than Levels. Thoughts?
@Learnwithtravis
@Learnwithtravis Жыл бұрын
I received the Libre and have used many of them and they have been great. They always seem to mirror my activity and have a lot of accuracy. As far as Nutrisense goes, I really want to try them out and do a comparison. I know little right now but imagine they are another great option. I have been very impressed with Levels but that does mean they might not be great as well. Hopefully I know more soon!

I would go for Levels but the idea of having to wear a patch with needles under my skin is not that appealing. And what about showers...? David Sinclair says he uses it to tell which specific foods agree with his body or not. That is awesome information. If Lumen can do that it is a now brainer.
@Learnwithtravis
@Learnwithtravis Жыл бұрын
Just so you know, there is no needle. I don't know exactly what it is but it is a short flexible piece. Kinda reminds me of a toothbrush bristle. Does not poke you or hurt or anything like that. Also, you can take a shower. As long as you are not submerging it for an extended time or getting it really wet for a long time, you are fine. I have taken many showers with it and never had an issue. Hopefully that helps!

@@Learnwithtravis Do these products make lab testing (InsideTracker, Viome and the like) redundant? My recent test results from Viome suggested I stay away from probiotics such as Kombucha, miso, natto, kimchi. While I know from experience that about Kombucha to be correct I have not experienced any negativity from tamari, natto, kimchi. But according to Viome I should stay away from these too. Can Levels or Lumen be used to confirm Viome's findings?
@Learnwithtravis
@Learnwithtravis Жыл бұрын
 @Siavash Sefidvash I am not overly familiar with those products, but from a quick glance I would not say it replaces them. They appears more geared to understanding your body and make dietary or supplement changes to correct imbalances. Lumen and Levels are more for carbohydrate intake and improving how your body responds to carbohydrates \ insulin resistance \ blood glucose spikes \ burning fat more naturally and not depending on carbohydrates. Different products that both help you learn what is going on and make decisions that help you be healthier. Hope that helps!

DON’T BUT THIS PRODUCT - Warning their return policy is not existent if you have even opened the box. If you’re not happy with the readings, too bad. If you have a medical condition (like myself) and cannot get enough breath to complete a reading, too bad. They wont take it back. Again, If you have even opened the box but never used it they wont take it back, No refunds. My readings (when I could even complete a full breath 1 time out of every 6th try) were all over the place. Not accurate and their “studies” are done in house with plenty of bias.

Ngl I’m kinda sick of fitness products being passed as “services” like the aura ring or these. Just let me buy the damn product I ain’t paying a subscription(hella expensive subscriptions at that) I can kinda understand for the levels since you’ll need more pads and sensors with time. But damn all these companies lost me as a potential customer for solely that reason

I can answer this. Lumen pairs with your breath signature so you really can't share it. If you use it and then your husband uses it one of your measurements won't be accurate because it learns your breath signature and uses that for a baseline. What you can do is order one device and then you get (when I got mine it was $100) a discount code and pass that to a family member to get theirs. My husband and I do Lumen together.
@Learnwithtravis

@@Learnwithtravis They do now, I just found that out. They did not when we got ours but I'd prefer separate devices anyway because we aren't always together. You can manage without it for a few days but then you have gaps in your tracking.
