Great review . I like how you compare tint. Everyone chasing lumens these days. I just got a Olight baton 3… tint too cold at 6500 k. I just ordered a edc18L Nichia from Amazon.

Are you able to lock out the light electronically so it doesn't ever turn on in your pocket ?

I love the Luminus SST20 in cw. Been looking at the Lumintop D2 it can run off a 18650 or 2100 or two cr123 or 20700. Yet can't find many reviews on it.

The clip on my edc18 snapped a year after i got it. The button with the glowing bunny got finicky and eventually fell off. Now i am left with a broken button that i need to glue into place and a no clip edc18. 👎🏼

The biggest downside of the EDC 18 is that *it has poor throw* . Even my _tiny_ S1R Baton II can outthrow it (Turbo vs Turbo). While the OS has a lot of features, this adds little to the practical value. The two features that I use are the ability to change to smooth ramp and the built in voltage checker, though more modern lights simply use a small LED in the button (full, charge, medium charge, low charge) and this seems to be sufficient to me since it is there when you turn the light on. One thing I do like is that the button bunny stays on all the time, which makes it easy to find the button in the dark. It is the flood light nature of this unit (and many multiple emitter lights) makes it great around a campground but to me, it is not a good general purpose light because to get good throw, you have to cook it up, which runs through battery much faster than a lot of lights with a better throw. I think my Olight Warrior Mini is a better all around light that is actually easier to pocket. The big thing though is that the throw is so poor that I really only use it around the house or when camping. I carried it for a while, but in the end, went to a light with better throw. (Throw in many ways equals battery life. A light like the EDC18 will have to be turned up much higher to get the same spot illumination that a far smaller but more focused light can provide. If you are hiking after dark and want to illuminate the trail 15 feet ahead of you, the EDC 18 will have to be turned up to a pretty bright level to get the same detail that can be seen using a light like the Olight Warrior Mini or even the Olight S1R Baton, and when you lean on the throttle to get the same amount of luminance on the trial ahead, you will be burning trough battery far quicker than you would with a light that is more controlled. This is always the issue with very floody lights. If the goal is to illuminate a wide area for a shorter time, then the EDC18 can work well for this, but you can also add a diffuser to some of these other lights and get the same benefit. So, you can make a light with a tighter beam do better at illuminating a larger area but you can't make a floody light have throw, and to get the same brightness at any distance, you will typically use three times the current. We all have our preferences but as someone that spends a lit of time in the dark, I have learned that a light with a more typical hotspot with moderate spill is a better light for most people most of the time. The EDC 18 is a floodlight and as a result, I have little use for mine except in camp. I go through batteries a lot faster with the EDC 18 than with any other light I own.)

Have you done one on the D2 and if so how does this one compare to it? They are the two I am looking at to get my son. And I do love the rabbit light-up logo too. ;-)

I have the original Emisar D4. Haven't found a reason to get the v2, but I love the flood of the quad emitters. It's definitely a hot pocket carry. I do keep it as a jacket light or keep it in the car if I go out at night. The UI is genius, like you, I only use the ramping, but it's nice to have the other features. I am currently rocking the Boss 35 and I really do appreciate the 18350 battery lights. Great review as always!

I’m using KR4ti as EDC (Cigar grip with tail cap button for me is more handy). And i want to say that AUX led feature is really useful and convenient (battery indicator, lock status and some kind of ultra low moonlight). Definitely worth to have.

I like the button light because it's easy to see the physical lockout state; on, off and when. A little piece of mind if you ask me.

@@ThePocketPerspective IKR. It's fairly hard to find a decent spot where you don't have much light pollution and some landmarks at various distances.

This flashlight is enthusiast flashlight covered inside civilian wrapper. It’s already not interesting for enthusiasts, but still to complex for common users.

Nobody wants a flashlight that you need a calculator to use lol, simpler the better, I think people collect stuff like knifes and flashlights so long they forget their just tools 🛠…I buy lights to actually use them and to have around in case of a power outage etc
