It was definitely a disappointing update. We use Blender a lot so it is not the end of the world for us, but I feel like there are so many things Lumion can do to improve/become interesting and I'm not seeing anything from them

@@LuminousLabs Completely agree. Especially the upgrade price, as annual very expensive subscription. No software roadmap. They, I think run on the user confiance till.. the end. As far as I understand there will be no material update announced at you end due tu some grimaces of the lumion staf, right? Vray becomes more and more model and material rich not to mention D5 Render or the latest TM 2022.1 You can get both of them for 2/3 price of Lumion. Thank you for your splendid and franc expression and tuts, guides, tricks and more. Will you continue with UE tuts for Archviz? Do you plan to produce a complete course for it, or other pieces of software, if any? I mean paid one.

Really appreciate your video! Thx. And recently i have a quetion that how we make and import the real 3D fire effects into lumion? Should we use 3DMAX or blender to make 3d fire(FBX file)? Is there any easy way???
@LuminousLabs3 жыл бұрын
You can’t unfortunately :( Lumion can’t import simulations or vertex animations (people walking). I recommend using the volumetric fire if you have 11.0+, it’s quite well done.

Hi, thanks for your tutorials, well I have a doubt… when you make a pbr material you always make two targa archives, one targa in which you mix color with reflective map and the other targa you mix normal with the gloss map right? So now in lumion 12 you can insert the gloss map so you don’t need to make that targa map… but what happen with the reflective map that you insert it into the color map in the targa ? Now you don’t need that reflective map? It affects on the quality of the material? Is there a way to insert it in lumion? Thank you for your time!
@LuminousLabs3 жыл бұрын
Good question Carlos. So yes you are correct in the fact that the gloss/normal map can just be input to Lumion so you don't need to do that part in photoshop anymore. As for the reflection map, I actually think that should be used sparingly. Really you only need the reflective map when dealing with something like a chair that has wood and metal. I normally use the METALNESS map and not the reflective map itself. Does that make sense? I made a video that may help you out I will link it below.

@@LuminousLabs thank you for your time again! so for textures like wood, concretes, bricks ,etc we can get good results only inserting the gloss map right ? what i understand of what you explain me is that metalness or reflection map is needed when you are making a texture for a material that combine two different textures in one that has diferent type of reflection ? sorry if i am not to clear...

Can u please confirm if lumion has fixed the issue where real glass material didn't show up in planar reflection surfaces like mirrors....pls confirm...pls.

I will double check it, however I don’t think it has changed because I think it is a limitation of the engine :/
@bradvanburen38033 жыл бұрын
Hey man. I think you can flip the roughness map so that it will reflect as gloss. Theres a button on the tab that allows you to flip the map. I saw Nuno Silva do it in one of his videos. I'm not totally certain cause I dont have L12 but I'm pretty sure you can so that you dont have to use Photoshop.

I just checked and couldnt find it, but I will watch the video!

@@LuminousLabs oh wait.. my bad.. maybe he was just flipping the normal map. That would be a cool improvement for the gloss map if you could inverse it though

I've been having some issues with Lumion 11 and 12, and maybe you could help me. When ever I select multiple objects, my frame rate drops to 1. Lights in particular. I open up an example file from Lumion, and just select a light, and all in the same cathegory. At that point, Lumion slows down incredibly. The 3d point count jumps from 20 million, to 80 million. This is frustrating beyond belief. As it did not happen in Lumion 10. I've contacted Lumion staff, and they were no help at all. They just recomended I optimize my model more, and completely disregard the fact that the same thing happens in their own example file. Did you experience something similar by any chance? I should point out my computer is well above the recomended settings, so that's not an issue.
@LuminousLabs3 жыл бұрын
Out of curiosity, are you selecting omni lights?
@gizmonomono3 жыл бұрын
@@LuminousLabs Among other things. But yes, they are the most problematic. I've contacted Lumion support and they told me it's part of a new upgrade. 5 lights will always cast shadows, no matter how many you select. Why this is such a problem in build mode, I don't understand. Considering D5 and Twinmotion don't have this problem, and they are real time renderers. Anyway, setting virtual memory to 120gb made it a bit more stable.

Path Tracing is still my biggest wish for lumion
@LuminousLabs3 жыл бұрын
That would be great! Although I'll be honest I don't see it happening :( This last release kind of solidified my opinion that they won't be doing much more to the engine.

For me this is more like a bug fix than a "feature" to pay for. I am really thinking about not to upgrade as from V10 this is the only thing that is usefull for outdoors. And the price tag is just huge. Not that I don't like it, but the price is just out of control.
@LuminousLabs3 жыл бұрын
I agree, it's great they added it in so I don't want to rag on them too much but this was very long overdue. Ultimately we are the winners though, because Lumion now has 3-4 strong competitors where a few years ago they really didn't have any.
@ElectroVSTK3 жыл бұрын
@@LuminousLabs I totally don't get it. There are just few things that need to get fix and Lumion is going to be a perfect live renderer for years to come. I don't think that ray tracing is going to get matured so fast. It is still too slow and gimicky. But come on just really simple things like ctrl+z, shadows to linear lights, portrait mode... It is just stupid why they are not workig on that. Fixing that kind of strange limitations would be worth the upgrade. L8 was a great version a game changer - L9 should have all this strange limitations fixed. I helped them to develop Archicad plugin and i was working with the team and It was super productive. But it was L8 - L9 times. I feel like they just lost connection with user base.
