You know it's crazy when you remember it would've made sense for Steven or Wallace to get involved in the Team Aqua/Magma story...except they BOTH barely got used in that series at all. Steven made literally only one appearance around when Ash got his second badge (in the Dewford Caves) and doesn't get a major role until all the way in the XYZ series with the Mega Evolution specials and Wallace didn't even appear in the Ruby/Sapphire anime series. He made his first appearance in the Diamond/Pearl series during the Wallace Cup arc. They mentioned he was the champion of Hoenn yet didn't even appear in that region during the time. It's just weird how the anime handles their champions at times.

The best part about the Team Flare Arc is how it made up for their lack of purpose in the XY games. The best evil team Arc in the Pokémon Anime came from the worst evil team in the Games- very satisfying.

Fun fact about the Sword and Shield Arc, there was some new lore drops in the form of a Chairman Rose backstory which was never given in the games. The fact that he is using Eternatus's power to keep Galar running so that tragedies like his father's death would never happen to other people. But alas, it doesn't really make up for being a bit rushed.

It's funny how TF and Lysandre went from the worst villains in the games (mostly due to wasted potential) to how much justice the anime did for them. I also really loved how they played Lysandre. Rather than how blatantly murderous he was in the games, here, he's more manipulative and seems trustworthy enough in his interactions with Alain and Mairin. It makes the stab in the back that came later all the more brutal when Lys reveals to Alain what he means by peace, and pretty much thanks him for his contributions to his genocidal vision. That people are probably dying from the controlled Zygarde's attack on Lumiose, and he's partially culpable for it, despite having no idea about Lysandre's true goals. No wonder the kid has a bit of a breakdown after.

Not only that, but he is basically Thanos, but with a better plan. He wants to kill everyone except those he seems worthy to lead humanity (so leaving Ash alive, but killing Lysandre) making him all the more of an interesting villain, seeing the potential and good in Ash and company, but willing to let everyone else (including himself) die by plants just so the world can be reborn. Wow, what a villain

They should adapt this arc into the remakes of X and Y. The anime mostly succeeded where the games failed. I say "mostly" because there is one issue. Lysandre uses Greninja's Bond Phenomenon to Mega Evolve his Gyarados which shows that he doesn't care about his Pokemon like he does in the games. For all their flaws, at least the games put in the effort to show that Gyarados' Mega Evolution was the result of a genuine bond with Lysandre, not syphoning energy out of another Pokemon.

I also like the Manga version of Team Flare where they are a constant looming threat that the main characters have to keep moving and be very distrustful of anyone outside of their group out of fear they might be undercover Team Flare agents. Not to mention that Team Flare already essentially had complete control over Kalos and can do anything without the public knowing and always covered up their actions via misinformation spread through the news.

Giovanni is kind of in a sad and funny situation. Because the TRio are main characters, he gets immunity from getting caught. After all there is no point catching Pikachu if their boss is thrown in prison. So he gets plot armor thanks to them (ironically), but he is also held back because of that. And as long as Ash is the main character, he won't ever get an ending.

It's crazy that they treated team plasma from the games and team Flare from the games reversibly in the anime. The inclusion of all the gym leaders in the final Arc was what Unova had in BW games, but we couldn't have so in the anime :(

The Team Flare arc absolutely blew my mind while it was airing. I'm surprised they actually had the balls to do it because it straight up felt like a Pokemon war arc. Every character had a role to play and it had its very intense and emotional moments, like this arc really got me sad over a robot dying. I don't think any villain team arc in the future will ever top this one.

Why I consider the Dp series the best is mainly cause of Ash's pokemon team, Paul and Galactic. I would put galactic at first. I think they had a tad more success in build up than team flare and they were building up from the 1st season. Rest assured Flare had a better and longer Climax I say

While I definitely think the Team Flare arc is perfect and the Team Galactic arc is great, I do think that the Team Rocket Undersea Temple arc in Gen 5 was done well and had good set-up. Team Plasma arc was only good because N was a really interesting and engaging character, and of course the Team Magma and Aqua arc was just a by-product of them being very unfocused in the 2nd Hoenn season, causing it to be pretty bad. With the sword and shield one, that one just came out of nowhere and more acted as the finishing arcs for Ash's Riolu and Goh's Raboot.

This might seem messed up, but I still haven't seen the Team Flare Arc. Yes, I know it's almost the end of 2022... I have seen a few clips from the epic scenes of all of the Kalos Gym Leaders charging in with Ash and others to save 'Chespie', 100% Zygarde saving the day and Lysandre taking out most of Ash's team while fighting all 6 of his Pokemon and Alain's Charizard (not sure why Alain didn't send out any of his other Pokemon...). For me, I had a chip on my shoulder because the Kalos League was rushed for this evil team arc. By that point in the anime, I didn't care about Ash helping to save the world (or in this case another region) because we've seen it 10x over in other seasons and movies. I only cared about him winning a Pokemon League. What's even worse is Greninja losing making Ash fumble a league win at the finish line, but this arc's aftermath led to Greninja getting released! I don't know...maybe I'll sit and watch the arc in the near future because I've heard so many good things about it. However, it is still a bitter pill to swallow because of what this arc sacrificed in its wake...

There is one issue. Lysandre was simplified and made more blatantly evil. In the games, Lysandre at least cared about his Pokemon, which was why Gyarados was able to Mega Evolve. In the anime he literally STOLE the energy required for Mega Evolution from other Pokemon, most notably Greninja.

My personal favorites are both of the Team Galactic arcs in both the original Diamond and Pearl series and The Arceus Chronicles. I’m not entirely a fan of the Pokemon Journeys series, but I was more excited to see the Team Galactic Commanders (3 of my many Cartoon Network childhood villains) come back after all these years.
