Honestly, this was a huge roller coaster of excitement and then disappointment.. I will not be upgrading the firmware on my S5 IIX because: Change log Jan. 23, 2025 Ver.2.2 Section 8: - Wired LAN streaming feature (RTP/RTSP) has been removed. I use my S5iix for live broadcast quite often and connect it over ethernet for reliability and high rate. It's absolutely vital that I keep this feature so no upgrade for me.. 😭

@TheRealRichardWong it looks like they are removing the RTP streaming over LAN? That is a shame. That was one of the features that differentiated and made the S5IIx worth the extra money. I really don't think they should be removing features...if security concerns exist, they should just pop up a warning and let the user choose, or enable activation through some other menu, and have it off by default. Removing a feature that is one of the selling points of getting the S5IIx over the S5II feels bad. I'm very excited about the other changes, but I really hope they revert the removal of RTP streaming.
@TheRealRichardWong
@TheRealRichardWong 3 күн бұрын
Hi Maximo, yes it's sad. My understanding is that there are some law changes in some regions/countries that legally require manufacturer to ensure all the communication are secure or they would be legally responsible for that. While this is not for every country, as the firmware is for global not regional, guess unfortunately this is the result. I don't think Panasonic would like to remove a feature that they already built and working to upset their users.
@MaximoJoshua
@MaximoJoshua 3 күн бұрын
@ do you have any links to the laws or which regions? I unfortunately already upgraded, and it seems like there is no way to get those features back.

@ oh sorry i feel you . I don't have any links, but i do remember hearing news last year re some law changes due to cybersecurity concerns in a few countries. And that's also what I heard from Panasonic when they told me this firmware involves some tightening of connection/transmission they were forced to do due to regulation changes
@TheRealRichardWong
@TheRealRichardWong 3 күн бұрын
@ I just did a quick google search and there were literally hundreds of law changes in 2024 related to wifi/appliance/smart device security .. I don't know which one directly affects this firmware as there are too many I can't read them all, it seems every 2nd country has one or two law changes happened in 2024. Here are some examples: www.traficom.fi/en/news/new-eu-information-security-requirements-wireless-devices-improve-protection-privacy-prevent www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2024/04/gov-enforce-new-uk-internet-security-and-broadband-boosting-law.html#google_vignette

@@TheRealRichardWong thank you so much for looking into it! The main issue I have here is that RTP was only available via a wired connection (ethernet). Nothing involving WiFi would apply, as you couldn't do RTP wirelessly. This is why it is so frustrating, as the only people who could be affected by any security concern would have to buy an adapter, then plug in a physical cable to their camera. It is not something that could have happened by accident. There were some Europe specific changes, and those seem to be related to the wireless cybersecurity regulations, but for wired RTP, it really doesn't make a whole lot of sense...the people that did use it (according to what I have heard) were people running multiple cameras for streaming, and they can't upgrade without disrupting their workflow. That is the other thing that makes no sense, when using ethernet, you do not have to connect to the internet, the simplest connection would be the camera directly connected to your laptop using the ethernet cable. That network doesn't have to have any connection to the internet at all. New standards like WebRTC and IP2110 use RTP as a lower level protocol even now. The wired streaming feature was meant to be the highest level of streaming for multi-cam, with the most features, unlocking "professional" studio stuff. Anyway, thank you for looking into it, if Panasonic adds more information about this, please let everyone know, as from my perspective, there were only 3 features you could only get if you upgraded to the S5IIx (RAW is available on the S5II via license). 1. Wired/Wireless Streaming 2. SSD Recording 3. Internal ProRes and All-I codecs So, now with this update, there are only 2 unique features to justify the existence of the S5IIx...and tbh, those two are not that compelling, because if I can do external RAW, I can also use SSD's on the monitor/recorder, and the recorder can also record ProRes. So, it seems now that there is very little reason to get the S5IIx over the S5II at all... Anyway, I appreciate you using your contacts at Panasonic to get answers!

I found three bugs in the camera firmware. 1) The recording level indicator "freezes" when I try to make the built-in microphone louder or quieter. If I use an external microphone, the indicator works fine. 2) When using the "LOCK" switch on, the "DISP" button remains locked all the time, even if the settings say "do not lock" it. 3) At 50 fps, 4k, 10 bit, Mov, the sound signal about the start of recording and about the end sometimes sounds incorrectly. Thank you. Best regards!

Enjoyed partaking in this video ( for the 2nd time ) I have 2 Pany cameras at this time - the Fz2500 bridge unit & the G9. Some features I like on the Fz are it's built in N D filters, its 48 ~ 960mm optical zoom reach, and the fact that I could move the left green play back button I've moved from the left side - on the G9 - over to the right of the monitor - I like most functions to be within reach of my right hand. On G9 I've been able to repurpose the ' Q ' button to be the Playback - but now I'd the Panasonic software folks need to make the original left sided button capable of being ' reassigned ' to some other function. Latter this year I hope to be getting the G9II and would like this feature to be ' in ' the camera ! PS = The overheating issue on the G9II Improve it / the G9'II camera's ' slow ' cold startup time of 4 or 5 seconds ! Please make it quicker than this ! Thanks,. Ray .

Have you solved the problem of auto focus video that freezes leaving the image not completely in focus and slightly out of focus? It happens in medium or long distance scenarios. If we can choose 16-bit TIFF as an output option for in-camera RAW processing, for me that would be even better. I'll output the 16-bit V-Log TIFFs after the shooting session, so processing speed or file size won't be an issue.

@ Where can I find this information? Well all the marketing around the S9 said it’s the same internals as the S5ii just in a smaller body so forgive us for assuming that any capability differences should be able to be made parody in firmware. It is very disappointing that over 2 years of silence from Lumix about this issue and the general consensus from the community was it could be fixed in firmware I am now learning it’ll never be possible. I trust you can understand why this is frustrating. Obviously the answer is to view this camera as a Super35 camera and I’ll need to start shifting my lenses to accommodate, which is expensive and is also compounded by the fact there is not 16-35mm f2.8 lens on the L mount system. Even as a longtime Lumix shooter I find this very frustrating.

It would be great if, during digital zoom in photo mode, the image was interpolated to the full frame, rather than cropping it to a small square. Taking into account the latest change, we would like to have full frame support on aps-c lenses, and, by means of digital magnification, capture images a little more than it turns out in aps-c mode, since many aps-c lenses almost overlap the full frame, for example Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN. I really don't like the imposed limitation on the full frame when using an aps-c lens, without the possibility of forcibly selecting the latter.

So none of the line skipped modes (1080p 60fps+) were able to leverage PDAF. They fixed it in the S9 and I would assume it to no longer be a problem with their future cameras.

Id like to see more control over image bracketing! They limit you to a few hardcoded presets currently. I’d like separate control over the bracket number and the amount of stops between each bracket. So instead of the 7 bracket 1 stop preset, I’d like to do 3 bracket 2 stops apart. It’s just a lot for my computer to have to merge 7 images in order to get that level of dynamic range for the HDR photo.
@hodim-edem_ru

I support you! I also don't have enough built-in functionality, I would like a manual selection so that I don't set 7 bracketing frames in difficult situations, but make two or three with a large range.

I haven't try that, but I don't see why not, it's just recording using a smaller sensor area so should be the same no matter what lens you use assuming it was already working previously. It could be a big challenge for the image stabilisation system, and the sharpness should suffer

Please PANASONIC update the firmware to have exposure bracketing of 3 shots, 3 stops apart (3x1stop is silly and 5x1 is wasteful of shutter life). BTW the FW instruction say, move 2 files to the SD card. in my case (G9ii) there is only a .bin file.

I would love to be able to toggle on and off the "auto crop mode" that it currently enforces when using a "cropped sensor lens". The reason for this is that it enforces a 1.5x crop but some of the lenses that will trigger this APS-C mode are actually covering about 95% of the full frame and look great with just the slightest crop and adjustment in post... especially if you're going to use a different aspect ratio. It's infantilising to enforce the crop on it... I know how lenses work, please just let me turn that off.

What I would like to see from Panasonic in 2025... Updated versions of their micro four thirds power zoom X Series lenses with constant f2.8 aperture...these lenses are fantastic for use on blackmagic micro studio cameras as you can control zoom, focus and aperture remotely but they would benefit greatly from a faster aperture. Updated versions of their micro four thirds and full frame box cameras with their latest PDAF systems incorporated and full wireless remote control capability. EVA2 with L-mount, PDAF from their DSLRs and BRAW internal recording...S35 sensor would be fine. Also include hybrid zoom feature to adapt B4 lenses. Parfocal servo zoom lenses for Lumix micro four thirds and Full Frame S Series bodies... Low latency SDI output ports on their flagship mirrorless DSLRs. Dare to dream...
