Nice short film ! The voice is very good hehe! The message is beautiful! The S5 is so convenient for low light 🕯️! 12:1 BRaw... Wow so small file size! I'd love to have 12:1 Prores Raw 🤣 The video assist is so much better, not having to take a big SSD that is bigger than the Ninja itself on the side and recording in SD cards... 😲 The menu on the Ninja is weird and slow, and you always have to redo some settings when you power on, like the luts view. Now I will study final cut and see the pros. Because final cut opens so much faster than resolve, I can only imagine that there are a lot of other strengths
@AltCine2 жыл бұрын
Thank you bro 🙌🏾 Yes raw compression shouldn't be overlooked. Raw isn't always needed but it's nice to shoot with, have that flexibility and smaller files. Granted I knew what I wanted and didn't have many wasted takes but it's still nice to have. The good thing about 2.5" SSD is that they're quite cheap now but I agree about the size....although you can chop most of them in half 😅 Again I agree on ninja menu, even switching from playback to liveview seems a bit janky but redoing some settings is long. I still believe the image on ninja is a bit better...not so much that anyone would notice and I definitely didn't have those dancing pixels in the ninja footage.

When you say ProRes RAW looks cleaner - is this compared to 12:1? I have seen in forums people complaining about softness in 12:1. Perhaps comparing it to 8:1 or 5:1 may give you a more comparable quality?

Even at 3.1 I think the ProRes raw just looks nicer. It's not like it'll blow your mind better but it just looks a bit more sharp and clean. Thank you, I usually suck at sound but did try to make more of an effort here. Yes...the image retention 😮! I noticed a few times that there was a ghost of the menu if I had it on too long but like you it went away. Mine took about 5 mins to go properly. You could try reducing the backlight to see if that helps or try to cool the unit down by turning the fan up....if you can bare the noise. Other than that I'm not sure...it sucks though.

Thanks for your input bro! As for the red speckles, my guess is that it's coming from the cable. It seems that the most difficult part with the Video Assist 12G (and especially with micro HDMI) is to find a reliable cable to pair with it. Which one did you use? Also, there's a lot of people who seem to have an issue with the middle 1/4'' mount that is too close to the USB-C port on the Video Assist 12G 5'', so they have to offset the monitor (which is quite a bummer to be honest). Did you encounter this problem too?
@AltCine2 жыл бұрын
Hey bro thanks for this. Admittedly my cable is cheap. I looked at the specs for the Atomos cable and found a cheaper one. I don't remember seeing and specks in my early test but I will definitely try again now you've said this and keep a closer eye. Yes the USB-C is in the dumbest position possible but thankfully the monitor display can auto flip so I just mount it upside down.
@davidmultimedia20242 жыл бұрын
@@AltCine Thanks for your quick and detailed reply man, truly appreciate it! Yes the auto flip is a life saver in this situation haha, but it's still a bummer having the logos upside down with usb cable popping up on top. I'm really hesitating in between the 5'' and 7'', since I'm quite used to 7'' monitors and it would solve the usb port issue (plus the added mini XLR ports for audio)... but it's like an extra pound in weight... which becomes even harder to balance the rig.
@AltCine2 жыл бұрын
@@davidmultimedia2024 no probs, yes definitely a bummer for the OCD having the text flipped lol. I'll have to show you my ssd setup one day....it's super minimal when attached to monitor. @davidmultimedia20242 жыл бұрын
@@AltCine I’m quite curious, since you make it sound even more minimal than a simple ssd holder attached to the monitor. Velcro? Haha Oh yea, i had a bunch of monitors over the past years, including an Atomos Shinobi (which is 5" like the Ninja V), and honestly I hated it. I hate Atomos menu, and since i’m used to focus on a 7" monitor, it was indeed hard to go back to 5". For the last few years, i’ve been using the Osee T7, which is in my opinion the best relatively low budget monitor out there. The joystick is a real "joy" to use (pun intended), and the fact that you can customize pages with all the tools you personnally need… I can’t go back! I find that most monitors out there have plenty of useful tools, but i don’t tend to use them that much because it’s not very quick/intuitive to enable/disable. So having the opportunity to build your own pages, just the way you like it… this is a blessing! Plus, it’s 3000 nits!!! I still consider the Video Assist for BRAW and ProRes HQ tho
