This was an amazing video. As I'm more interested in creating the textures of designs vs. literal trees or flowers or portraits, it was just what I needed to see. And realize that patience is not my strong suit so I'll need to adjust to get the effects I want. Ha! Ha! The answers to my questions are in the comments so I'll just say thank you very much!

This was absolutely incredible to watch from start to finish! Each section was its own kind of satisfying, the freehand whorls and the sound of the marker, the ink mixing, the many many prints, the carving, carving, carving! I was enthralled. And thank you for the multiple camera angles, so beautifully shot too! Very very pleasing, thanks for sharing the entire process with us! The ultimate piece is a mesmerising work of art. I'm curious, I noticed you were cutting off/shaping the nib of your marker a couple times in the beginning, around 4:55 minutes. May I ask how you do it and why you find that helps? Thanks for answering so many questions in the comments too, it's been very helpful for a beginner like myself!

Beautiful print, but what an awful sound at the beginning... It makes me goosebumps, I had to lower the volume! :-)The carving process, otherwise, was a real pleasure to see! What a craftsmanship and patience! You could also try to use the tool (I don't know its name, maybe baren or something similar) used by Yukio-e printers to transfer the color from the linoleum to the paper, instead of using that sharp tool that can consume or put a hole in the paper.

haha, yes sorry about the sound in the beginning, i couldnt decide if it was nice or annoying ^^ i have tried a barren like that in the past, but it fell apart (maybe i didnt use it correctly). since this video ive sanded my tool i use so it doesnt have sharp edges, so now it's not such a problem as it used to be:)

Do you start your planning with the size of the paper and margins? I noticed you adjusted the print area later was that to fit it to the paper?
@emilunderbjerg
@emilunderbjerg 3 жыл бұрын
yes, exactly. i had originally planned a margin of only around 2 cm, but decided it would look better with a wider margin

Beautiful work. What for Colour was the white one? Greetings from Switzerland

i mix the black ink with both a white ink and something called "wiping compound tack reducer" - it helps with the consistency of the ink :)

This is incredible. What gouges or carving tools did you use? I'm trying to figure out how to use different tools and mostly end up using a super small v. Do you sharpen your own and what do you use to sharpen? Thanks!

To follow up on that, seeing how smoothly your cut goes through makes me feel like I definitely need to figure out better sharpening skills.

thank you! i use Pfeil carving tools all U shaped. i use a small arkansas oilstone to sharpen and a slipstrop from flexcut tools to hone the cutting edge. hope it helps!

If Van Gogh made Linol! 😁👌 Impressive work!🙏 Did you cut off any lines, accidentally? Just curious as it does not show, but I am always such a critic towards my own art- and ditched linoleum because I was frustrated that I couldn't fix my mistakes as easily as with drawing 😅 But is it fair to say this craft can't be done without a few mistakes tho- when making such a big piece, at least? I feel like you are some kind of superpatient genius if that is not the case for your huge work such as this!!! 😁

Also, how long does it take after such a project for your index finger to get back to good health? 😂

i usually make a cutting mistake or two, i dont remember specifically for this print though. but for me, the mistakes are often more interesting than the planned version, as i have to find a way to make them work with the rest of the piece. i guess you could try fixing it by removing and replacing a piece of the linoleum, but i would much rather just figure out how to make the mistake work instead :) as for my finger, it is permanently bent, no way it'll go back to being straight :D

As you are that gentle, I dare asking you a question: What is the gel for? A)Giving more texture to the final result?
@isabeldelaportilla6223
@isabeldelaportilla6223 3 жыл бұрын
B) Giving color to the linoleum so you are more comfortable to carve? C) Carving the gel itself instead of the linoleum?

hi Isabel, thank you for your question, the gel is just acrylic paint mixed with water, i paint it on to make the lines easier to see when i draw them 🙂
