Luna makes a great product. I have the Low Fat Wolf with the Ludicrous Drive. I love it! I'm not sure of the configuration of the internal hub gearing, but properly done with properly specified sprockets and belts this should be superior to chain drives. I've seen machinery that runs hundreds of horsepower through toothed belts and they last forever with little to no adjustments.

I've used Gates belt drives on tandems. Incredibly, they do NOT stretch. I bought a back up belt and have not had to change it yet. 12,000+ miles. Hose off the dirt and lube with dry silicone spray.

Point of fact the belt does not stretch and the interior rubber-like teeth will swell slightly, so you will see the tension increase initially.

I have experience motorcycle belt drives owning 4 of them. Three of them had well over 110ft lbs of torque. Each bike probably have an average of 25000 miles. The belts on my Buel”s do not stretch. There is no tension adjustment because of this. If they ever become less than banjo tight, you are either loosing a bearing or the belt has already failed. All those miles the belts were a dream. Zero impact. No wear, not maintenance. Just check once in while to see if it is scary tight. I did change one belt when on gravel roads a rock happened between the rear sprocket and the belt. The inboard side of the belt failed and the rest got me 100 miles home. My point to the reviewer is his claim that the belt will stretch. Are you sure? Belts these days are near bullet (or rock) proof for motorcycles with much great stresses per measured width. The Gates Manual states that they don’t stretch. It will tensioned to about 40lbs. Most likely you will replace the belt after it wears down your metal sprockets.

Great review, Matt. I own one of these in Large (58cm frame) myself and I think that, for what it is, its darn near perfect although I'll echo another commenter that I really miss a thumb throttle - as a heart attack survivor they are really important to give you the ability to back off the effort if it becomes necessary. I have to say I was surprised at your comments on the adequacy of the brakes. I weigh 250 lbs and am probably at the very outside of the size range for this bike. But I have no issue with the brakes' stopping power even at speed. I'm used to 4-pot Maguras and 203mm rotors front and back on my big bad ebikes so I was pleasantly surprised at what I considered to be the perfect performance I got from the Tektro hydros and 160mm rotors.

Nice review. I'm in the market for a commuter, with pedal assist, and love the 'fixed' look. My commute is about 20 miles, which would be at the edge of the range. Perhaps not on assist '2' though. Is that true? As others have mentioned, a bottle cage battery extender or bag battery extension would be a great option for longer rides. How easy, or any tools needed, to change flats, (looks more involved with the gear selector on rear).

This looks like you chose a Bofeili mid-drive. Fuell chose that, too for their Fluid. How come no mention of the motor in the review, or the Luna website, as it is something different. How was it chosen? I'm very interested in hearing more about this motor. Great-looking bike, btw. Congrats.

Great job. An ebike with horizontal dropout with disc brake can be hard to come by. Imagine installing the Rohloff 14 speed igh.

On electrics, a Rohloff be ideal over the Shimano. At least you can drain the oil and fill it. Shimano require a greasing after x amount of kms. Rolhoff is super strong straight cut gears

Jack Casica It is replaceable. Just have to pull the motor to slide it out. It’s not difficult just time consuming.

Do you have any plans on putting a bigger battery? Possibly a 12ah. The reason being, is I always ride at highest assist and never get more than 1 mile per amp hour on any of my electric bikes/scooters.

Nice review Luna Cycles can you address the question of adding or option for a throttle. I would also like better with a throttle if controller has options for it. Also options for integrated lights and or brake lights if controller allows. A rack for a commuter is also a great feature. So hopefully you also already have the mounting points on the bike. Thanks

$500 for a one-year warranty. That's not much confidence in their product. But I get it. The quality control is in the hands of the Chinese manufacturer. They assemble the bike, put it in a box and I will be the one opening it. Fortune cookie. And Luna will have nothing to do with my bike. I'll be on my own.

Yup, that's how they sell it cheap! I got mine today and there is a SERIOUS design issue with the tires! I blew both inner tubes out (front & rear) just inflating them to 60 psi! Talk about scare the shit out of me, along with making me deaf for a few hours! I then took it to a Bike shop and they proceeded to explode two themselves while inflating to 70 psi! We ended up ripping out the "red plastic rim liner" that lines the inside of the rim and installing fabric liner. We did discover that the rims were NOT designed for the newer racing stems installed, but for the old-fashioned schrader stems (which have a larger hole at the valve stem), so the inner tube would bulge out at the valve stem hole and then tear the inner tube. This is a REALLY scary thought in my mind and these are the kind of things you must be able to be comfortable with in order to buy and own a Luna. I suspect this will get old for me real quick and I'll probably dump it for a Specialized Ebike next Spring.

3 gears would be ok in a flat area but not enough for most hilly type areas. They should have put a 5 or 7 speed internal hub instead. Nice bike otherwise.

@@dougone611 They won't answer.. it looks like these lithium ion batteries will just fill up landfills. The same with electric cars that have a trunk full of lithium batteries. Did you see that bionx was sued by GE... They have a proprietary system (battery/controller/motor) that only use Bionx parts or they shut down.. And now that Bionx is bankrupt because of this lawsuit, you cannot buy a replacement battery. So use caution around proprietary ebike systems. That is why i choose to use good downtube batteries and a Bafang that you can get replacement parts for. If you buy a Bauch, or Yamaha, or Shimano Steps. You can only use their propretary batteries. No others will work. I won't buy these systems because there are no guarantees.

Just got my Stealth today, I wanted so much for this to be a success story right out of the box...but alas...sorry to say....not. Blew out 2 inner tubes at home just trying to pump up the tires, 3 at the bike shop & we still really don’t know for sure if we fixed the problem. I upgraded the VERY CHEAPO tires for a pair of Armadillos, and had to re-line the rim inside due to the tube bulging out through too large of a stem hole. Guys....the price is really cheap for a reason! I want so bad to love this bike, but there’s no follow up service for a reason. There’s no QA or accountability from the manufacturer whatsoever. I will be testing this ebike throughly for 30 days then making my own update to it. Thanks.....😐🤪

Keep It Real - I REALLY am impressed with my Stealth! I did have some weird issue with tubes blowing up. It was discovered the hole where the tube valve goes through was a slightly larger hole than it should be & the tube was getting pinched in the hole & BAM!! The bikes are shipped with less than recommended pressure due to shipping concerns maybe? So when the bike shop was filling them up they’d explode! I changed out the tubes & tires with a high end set and they’re fine now! The bike itself is a REALLY nice bike! A surprisingly high amount of torque on level to small grades, but do NOT expect this bike to pull you up hills without effort on your part! This is still a bicycle in my opinion. It will merely assist you when you get stuck going up a grade or you just want some peddle assist. The battery lasts a good 15-20 miles depending how much you assist. If you assist to a moderate amount, you’ll get 20 miles. If you sit there and put effort into it, you can expect a low number as low as 12-14 Miles

Great vid. But please don't use pounds. Because pounds in UK US and Canada are different. We don't know where u live. I have the belt drive. I've set up the tension and ride 9000km without doing anything. Its great.

You said nothing at all about the motor! Really, didn't even mention it. And at the end of the review, just slipped in the riding experience, "pretty steep hill, standing up pedaling hard, full power" was needed. Hearing torque of motor would have been nice.
