Unboxing of the latest DIY ebike mid drive kit out of China the CYC-X1 Pro shot live on FEB FB last week with Luna's Mechanical Engineer Action Jackson. Is it the BBSHD killer? Or vapor? Not only do we open the box but also end up tearing the drive open to see what is inside and comparing it to the insides of a BBSHD.

I have installed the CYC X1 gen 2 on my bike. I can only speak to my initial impressions on the install and the appearance of the components so far. This appears to be a top quality kit. Packaging was very good and everything was in good shape on arrival. The motor is very high quality in appearance. I will update once I get some ride time on it.

Apparently, these units were early edition/prototypes models and not final product. Luna Cycles could have been more clear about that. No mention of this in title or description. No "latest diy ebike mid drive kit" but "prototype diy ebike mid drive kit"

@jfparent695
@jfparent695 5 жыл бұрын
What I like from the design of the CYC X1 PRO is the fact that the drive gear is external to the chain ring, similar to the Lift MTB (which is made in France). This reduces chain stay interference issues. Once they improve their consistency, this will be a very good option for bike where BBSHD does not fit properly. Things to improve on the CYC X1 PRO: 1. Quality. Rotor should be assembled with tight tolerance and permanently balanced, not just balanced with putty, kit should be complete; 2. Noise level. Change strait gears for quieter designs; Luna, time to assemble test bikes with these kits (adding missing component) and do another video. I hope you will work with these guys to improve the product for North America consumer. BBSHD does not fit on all bikes.

The GMAC is the "next big thing" in hub motors, having regenerative braking on a internally geared hub that offers 1.5 times more regenerative return than a gearless hub, you could pedal it to not only maintain "stater charge" to free wheel but generate extra to charge your battery.

I love the podcast and appreciate you guys taking apart the motor and showing us what's cheap and what isn't. how he says no one's going to tear apart a $900 motor and see this stuff but if you tear apart a sunron you're guaranteed almost no customer service and considering you can get the bikes from China for $1,000 cheaper than they have it on sale currently I don't see the upside. His other podcast he talked about Parts availability which he said dealing with surron is difficult to random at best.

Who ever is doing the camera work is clearly ambitious on doing it well. Few pointers: 1) Something is definitely off on the rendering/export, Google the best settings for what ever editing program you are usng. 2) Make sure that the side camera on the slider is level. 3) Crop in on the slider footage so it fills the screen. 4) Make sure you check the white balance prior to filming. This is very warm. 5) I'm not so sure the podcast actually benefits from the slider movement. I'd rather have it still. 6) Make sure the center shot is symmetrical and place the camera at eye level, not shooting down. You have two cameras pointing at the table, it's enough.

Still like my BBSHD. Thinking of buying a second one if I can figure out which controller can give me about 2000W continuous, something simple that doesn't require three months of testing in order to work properly. Pedal assist and good throttle is a must (that actually works the way it's supposed to, not the fucked up shit I was reading about) , gear shift sensor and ebrake cut off would be nice, decent display with a "Night" mode so those of us with cataracts aren't blinded by it... I'd be happy to hear any suggestions. It's for getting a Yuba Mundo and a trailer up some longer hills, I'm not looking to go 100 mph. Thanks.
