I saw them up in Alaska a few years back! They were some of the first people to inspire me to start indulging into Irish fiddle as opposed to texas swing! :) Thanks!!

@METALFREAK03 The Uilleann pipes actually have more parts than the Scottish ones :p Scottish bagpipes have a chanter (melody pipe) and three 'drones'. a full set of UP's has those AND 3 'regulators'. On UP's the drones lie across your lap and the regulators go over the top of those. You see the pipe that rests on his left arm? That's the bass (lowest pitched) regulator. Hope you enjoyed the info (y)

Amazing set, by amazing musicians! Must. Learn. All. @METALFREAK03 - they are the Irish or Uileann ('illen') Pipes. Belows-powered (no mouthpeice for blowing), a softer, sweeter and more complex sound that the Scottish bagpipes that you've seen and heard.

No bodhran needed...guitar provides all you need. Pretty fantastic!

Strangely, guitar is not an irish instrument, bohdran is.

@crossEyedMary69 Well I'm learning them as well - you basically build them up in 'stages'. The stage I'm at - 'Starter' - you have the bag, the bellows and the chanter pipe. Then, after x-many years you add the drones and make a 'Half Set'. After that, if you want, you can add the 3 regulators to make it a full set - that'll probably be about 30 years after you started learning haha ^_^

The uilleann (il y un) pipes are unique in that they play over two octaves. They also can produce simple chords across the regulators. They are unique in this respect too. Can they be unique twice???
@balddonaldcerrone79307 жыл бұрын
David Clinch of course they can
