I would love to live the way you do. So different from the way we live in the united states . Even in our rural communities. So many people have trashed our environment and we are overbuilt. Our way of life has forced people out of the country and into the city. Most of us are not self sufficient and would have no idea how to take care of ourselves without a store to buy everything from. Thank you for sharing your lifestyle with us. I know you could live anywhere in the world with your modeling career and could live a luxurious life and yet you return home. You are a very bright spot in this world and we are lucky to have you

Your life looks great to me! But then again I lived in the country side in the US. So I know the joy of a simple life. I also know what it feel like to go a whole day and spend nothing. It's actually a comfortable feeling knowing your food is always there. Also your water. So even if there isn't one penny, a person will survive. I mean one might walk around in worn rags and shoes if you did it for a couple of years, but at least you are well nourished. And the air is so fresh and energizing. :)

The liquid that was drained from the ash is called lye. Lye is primarily used to make soap although that type of lye is of a higher concentration than the one that you used and is therefore poisonous. Usually lye that is used to make soap has to be poured through 4 different batches of ash to reach the right concentration. Traditionally the concentration was tested using the zap test. You put a small drop of the prepared lye on your tongue and if it has a strong zap or bite feeling on your tongue, then it's ready to use to make soap. Although, I didn't know that lye could be used in food. I have seen plant ash used in food. In parts of China it's used to make certain types of tofu. The lye works to make the greens cook faster is because lye is highly acidic which helps it to quickly break down organic matter. The kishungwo in English is called a sifter.

Ok I have cassava and millet flour! What proportions did you use for the flour and with the water? Did you add salt? Also instead if black eye pea leaves could i use sweet potato leaves or green bean leaves? I want to cook this way from my patio garden! Tomatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, peppers, cucumbers, and spices. Wonder if I can have some chickens... but I have a lit of hawks so maybe not ...

I think you're right. These big cities, in difficult times, bring with them so many hidden problems. . In a big city there is no easy way to make a fire and siting by an open fire. There is no way to quickly find yourself under the rays of the sun, this is only possible on the beach. Comfort of cities vs nature.

Afwoyo tek tek. Your African life is a much kinder sweeter life. New York is a city I don't like at all. In these cities you can be surrounded by people and not one cares about the stranger next door to them or on the street. It's a sad distinctly cold lonely life. Humanity hasn't gained anything with lifestyles like that.
