That’s no lie on Jamaicans! This happens in farming communities where folks cook on the farms where they spend most of their times. It is kept alive and practiced during Heritage Week especially to show youngsters how we once lived. There is no shame in this! It’s a part of our past; had no control over same. The lockdown during the pandemic was a wake-up call for many. Many “uptown ers” could not even heat water; had to move their helpers and entire family in to keep their homes. Learn the survival techniques our ancestors used; we are going to need them! Things like porcelain and plastic might be unavailable in the near future. Nuff said!

Is that Uganda? The mashed vegetable looks like ugali and the way it is dished with a plate. But the banana leaves are a Ugandan thing. Perhaps the vegetable is cassava. Instead of eating the one carbohydrate mashed food, all Africans should use all the others- green bananas, green plantains, ripe plantains, cassava, yams, sweet potatoes, eddoes, dashine and whatever other underground carbohydrate vegetables that grow in Africa.
