Hi carl just a random question that I can't get my head around, if I had a fixed displacement pump say 100lpm and I put a flow control on the outlet to control the flow to 60lpm where does that other 40lpm go if its fixed displacement

This quickly becomes a high pressure hazard (hose blow out, pump housing cracked or shaft broken perhaps, prime mover stall under best case) if a correctly set, pressure relief valve is not present between the pump outlet and the flow control. Tightening the flow control until only 60 lpm comes out when the fixed displacement pump is 100 lpm, means that 40 is passing over the relief valve. The system itself would be energy inefficient with lots of heat building up within the fluid.
