In this video, I am comparing the new canned Wendy’s Chili with Beans to the chili at Wendy’s restaurant.
* The canned chili was $4.42 at Walmart.
* The restaurant version was $3.49 for a large.

I finally tried it. It's probably the best canned chili you can buy but expensive. It's kinda accurate and tastes similar but a little different. I'd definitely buy it again but that price is a bit iffy. Hopefully they lower the price a bit.

tried the canned the other day. LOVED IT!!! not sure it reminded me of the restaurant chile, per se, (its oddly sweeter - but I put brown sugar in my chili as a secret ingredient) but whatever, its now the ONLY canned ill buy. also, when doing head to head tests, its super important that the temp is as close as possible. the chemicals in the food hit your taste buds very differently with different temps. good video. thanks.

When I worked at Wendy's we used meat that was left on grill too long and set aside until needed for Chile. It was panned with water and heated until moist and then we chopped it with pan lid. We used veggies that were measured and frozen until used and beans were washed before adding and a pack of seasoning was added as well as water. Used large pot to cook until done and placed in serving pans as needed. As it sat in heating bin it would thicken so water was added to get it consistent.

@moneymoney12 4 ай бұрын
This is correct. At one point, they had a chili pack with the beans and seasoning all in one. I used the Blodgett oven potato rack and chopped the meat up (it is a stainless steel rack and does a better job in the long pan). You can also tell that people are half chopping the meat as you get large pieces of hamburger. There are three reasons that the chili can be thinner. 1. When the chili is freshly made, it is always thinner, just like spaghetti sauce, needed additional time to thicken up. 2. When people combine residual old with fresh chili. 3. When people mention adding water, they are not adding water to stretch the chili because you can only hold it for so long, it is being added in most cases because they are not paying attention to the heat pan, and then it starts to dry out and you no longer have a water bath and the chili starts to dry out and if you wait to long it will burn and stick in spots. So, the water is used to help reconstitute the chili into something that looks like chili and not succotash. If I knew it was burnt in spots, I would pull the pan and scoop all from the top so as not to have to throw it all out. When he mentioned the sodium level, it is listed as high on the store version, and the reason is because of the seasoning of the meat. Also, you can tell which stores partially boiled meat before chopping it up because the ones that follow the actual steps, the partially boiling and draining, remove a larger portion of the sodium. Also, for the people who feel it is icky, Kentucky Fried Chicken does the same thing to make the pot pies, as they partially boil the chicken to help remove the skin and shred it. The same was true when Popeyes did their chicken etouffee: boil, desking, shred, combine with their gravy, boil/cook, and then serve over rice.

The reason it is cheaper at the restaurant is due to the nature of licensing. Chili straight from Wendy's and made by Wendy's is cheaper because only Wendy's is involved in the process. The canned Wendy's chili is made by ConAgra through a licensing agreement between the two companies. Now, both of these companies want to make a profit on the same product. Hence the higher price. And the sad thing is, it is not even Wendy's chili, nor is it Wendy's recipe. They just made an agreement to use the Wendy's name and likeness.

What I do to bring the canned chili to store level is add water, MSG, and a little acidity from lime juice and vinegar. The canned chili lacks the acidity the restaurant chili has. I also add 3/4 TSP of cayenne & 1/4 TSP chili flakes. Tiny amount of black pepper (don’t overdo this). A little cilantro. This further improves it. Heat the canned chili on a stove, too; you can heat up and mix the chili better this way. Turned out great.

Way back in the late 90's I based my chili on Wendy's chili. I buy the Bush's Pinto and Kidney beans already in chili sauce. Then I dice a onion and a green bell pepper throw them in with 1/2 lb of ground beef while it's cooking. Put all the beans in a large soup pot with some diced tomato's then add the beef onion and bell pepper. Then I add 16 ounces of water plus a small can of tomato sauce and a 1/2 teaspoon of chili powder and mix well. Then bring it too a boil then reduce the heat to a simmer stirring every 5-10 minutes for 45 minutes. Then let it cool for 1 minute and serve.😋

We had it 2 days ago and neither of us were impressed. It was no better than any other canned chili. Because of our age and health we look for shortcuts in cooking but I'll just continue to make our chili in the crock-pot.

I liked the original Wendy's chili. When they "improved" it years ago, they ruined it.

It seems like what you're saying is that the canned version is not as spicy as the restaurant version, I wanted to try the canned one at Walmart but it was out of stock and yes, a little pricey! 😡

PRICE UPDATE: The price now on the large size chili is $4.64 (tax incl.) at my local Wendy's restaurant. The canned Wendy's chili is $4.42. Bottom line I'm buying the canned version for stocking my pantry and convenience to have on hand.

I've bought the canned Wendy's chili and really don't care for it I was expecting it to be the same but no...I love the restaurant chili best. I do know from eating Wendys chili at different locations the chili is made just a bit different but still love it anyway. I always get an order of French fries to eat with my chili. Bye from Ohio🌹

I haven’t had Wendy’s chili since the 80’s and to be honest, I don’t remember it being that good? Might have to give it a try it again to see if my opinion has changed. I make a couple different homemade chili recipes (one in the crockpot and one on the stove) so I’m kind of thinking a mass market brand like this will come off as a tad bland - guess we’ll see………🤔

What do I do when I go in Wendy’s. I tell them stirred up first. Then pull it up from the bottom. And put it in the cup. That way you get more product than a juice

Skyline is in a totally different category. It’s more of a sauce to be put on pasta, or they sell a thicker version for hot dog chili. Bad comparison to mention it when testing chili con carne.

The canned chili looked like Wolf Brand chili to me. Both canned and restaurant are more expensive than most brands which isn't good. I make my own so I control the amount of spices and ingredients.

It's supposed to have sugar and it's probably reason today other can one don't have the spice because it's supposed to have a little bit of red pepper and cayenne pepper to give it as the kick

Have to say I am a Wendy's chili fan They make the restaurant in store chili with hamburger mistakes and bag and freeze. You read where employees say don't eat it. The problem I have too is you get different version depending on who makes it and many times it is not up to temp. I will try th he store chili to see if it is compatable in taste. Thanks for the review. t

I suspect Wendy's spent years and $$$ trying to make a canned chili close to their own. I like Hormel with beans adding extra chili powder, so who am I to judge? In a pinch, it all comes down to cost and to what I have access.

I just don't see how that small can is worth that much ..I just found it at a cost +10% store and it was almost 5 bucks... I love Wendy's chili but there's no way the stuff in the can compares to their restaurant chili. Just about all canned chili has that orange color and most of them are gut grenades... my uncle told me they used the leftover burger patties to make chili at Wendy's, I don't know what they do but I love it! Closest thing to homemade chili you can find anywhere!

I bought some, tried it and thought it tasted absolutely nothing like Wendy’s chili. It looks nothing like Wend’s chili. It’s dark, extremely thick and doesn’t have that tomato flavor of Wendy’s. I threw my other two cans in the garbage.

Wendy's canned chili with Wendy's restaurant chili. You cannot go to the restaurant and buy their canned chili. You can't go to the grocery store and buy the restaurant version. Canned chili is for your pantry, and restaurant chili is to be eaten on the same day. My favorite canned chili is Wendy's. Their canned version is pricey when compared to other canned chili.

I just can't do canned chili. Even for chili dogs, I make my own. I have certain seasonings and add-ins that canned can't even touch. I would take it to work in Pyrex bowls as Ziploc containers stain. Thank you Kevin.
