Lund SSV Trolling Motor Installation

In this video I Install a Minn Kota Power Drive 55 trolling motor on the Lund SSV-18 boat. This video is very model specific but can also apply to any utility style boat or electric Steer Minn Kota.

Does the battery way more than the gas tank? Or do you sot on the side of the battery?

I put the gas tank in the Bilge and the only thing in the side I sit on is the onboard charger, so the starting battery and trolling motor battery are opposite of me. I find I'm really well balanced when alone.

Great videos on the SSV-18. I just bought an older S-18 and in the process of making my laundry list of upgrades. I'm referring to all your videos for ideas. You referenced a video to come about reviewing the boat a year later. I'm really interested in that one. I have a couple of questions about your trolling motor. Is the 55lb/12V enough for you, and what length shaft is it. Would you change anything about your setup? Thanks, and again, great job with the videos.

Thank you very much for the support! I did record the 1yr review, but I ended up deciding I need to redo it. I have a fishing video coming out next week, and the review will be the week after. That said, the only thing I would change in my setup is the rod holders. I went for the cheapest ones that they don't make extensions for and I'm regretting it. I will be replacing them eventually, but other than that I love my setup more and more every time I use it. There hasn't been a situation thus far where the boat has been anything other than the perfect machine!

It's all what kind of fishing you do. There's only a couple of months window on my lake where trolling is the ticket, and even during that time, I still spend a solid chunk of it vertical jigging and casting. Occasionally, I bass fish as well, so personally, I'd never run a boat without an electric up front. That's why I think this boat is so amazing, it doesn't matter what a guy's personal preferences are. This boat can be very easily set up for whatever the task at hand is.

Absolutely! I do plan on making a video about that as well as the break in process. I'm currently in the process of getting the boat's accessories put together on the weekends, I'll be continuing to post my set up videos as I complete them. Once it is done setup I also plan on going over the interior with a tape measure to show various dimensions so that prospective buyers can order accessories before their boat arrives. Stay tuned!

Hey I would like to know what you think the shortest length trolling motor shaft I could get away with on this same boat?Odd question I know. Trying to save some $$. Thanks!

I just went out and measured, and from the bow cap to the lowest point on the keel vertically is 36". I know when my 60" still has plenty of shaft sticking up it only comes out of the water on serious waves. I think a 54" would be plenty but a 48" might have a hard time staying under in a good chop.
