I watched someone heat up the molds in a oven. Once good and hot, they poured it and it helped bigtime, BUT.. There is some shrinkage so there was flashing around the pour, but thats easy to remove. RIP Splinter 🥺
@lundgrenbronzestudios2 күн бұрын
Wow. In the oven? I feel like this might exceed the oven rack capacity but I don’t know. Splinter was a special ferret.

I am at the 2 months out stage trying to get the courage for a 3rd attempt at a skeleton clock frame that has all the same problems. Only bigger. Last attempt the cope sand kept falling out when I turned it over !

This is a really challenging pattern as it is so thin. Using a few risers at the critical points would help

I would highly recommend spraying boron nitride on the mold surfaces. It acts like teflon and allows the metal to flow through the mold. I've also noticed that it slows freezing to a noticeable amount. The sand can also be reused as normal. I like the pump spray by Zyp.
@lundgrenbronzestudios2 күн бұрын
Interesting. I’ve never heard of that. I’ll have to try it out.
@Cornish_CoКүн бұрын
@@lundgrenbronzestudios I also use it on my cast iron and graphite molds as well. I get somewhere between 15 & 20 uses before recoating. Just spray enough to turn the surface white and use a torch to dry it before casting. You will be amazed to see copper ball up and roll around on it like oil on water.

Thats a good marriage where you can teach your wife. ha ha. Like Larry the cable guy says, "Whats the difference between going on a canoe ride with my kids or with my wife, my kids still talk to me on the way home." Awesome job. Sorry about your pet.

Nice (Team-) work !! You need to match the fast cooling ratio with much more angle to speed the casting up. Look how Neil Burridge cast his swords in England. Sorry bout Splinter > did you name him after the turtles Splinter? Cheers from Germany 🎉

Yes, he was named after Master Splinter in the ninja turtles.

Not really sure. They live to be about 6 and he was 6. I found struggling to breath one day and I picked him up. Then he fainted and stopped breathing right in my lap. He never woke up.

another fun video. my wife stays indoors while the furnace is roaring, but she does like the creations. not seeing me covered in bronze dust. Was Splinter a car keys thief? Cheers!
