I've had two pairs of Make and generally I'm happy with them. Being a sweaty fellow I appreciate the ventilation options (I've removed the mesh on the thigh ventilation) and thinner more breathable fabric, but this does of course impact the durability. After probably 400 days of hard use, my current pants have taken a beating but thanks to some maintenance they're still my favourite pants. The longer I use them and the more I repair them, the more I like them strangely enough. Something about taking care of your stuff that makes you appreciate it more! The seams on the crotch have given up quite quick, which has been fixed with some reinforcement patches. This has happened on both my pants, despite sizing up for the second pair. Also agree with the superfluous ventilation on the upper pocket. Zipper tends to get caught in the mesh and then break it as well. Other than that, great pair of pants!

I know the Makke pants very well. Positive, the fit is great. But what is bad is, the material specially the upper leg is very thin and breaks very fast / you get holes inside. And for this reason i never buy the Makke pants again. And i had 2 pairs off them. The Baalka i had no experience with. Thank you Matti for this great video.

Very insightful, thoughtful and brutally honest. The manufacturers should give you a job, as you understand what works and what does not. Fantastic review.

Thanks Matti, nice review. I love my Makka pants. They are the best hiking pants I’ve ever had in teams of fit and durablility. I don’t seem to have the problem with the wear of the stitches where the material at the bottom is harder. Have used them on many trips mainly hiking and some packrafting in the past four years. Wearing them a total of 6 weeks a year all day. Also with long jon’s in autumn the fit is still good.

Large companies have rather one direction only-making worse products than they used to, less resistant so you can consume more and more. However people don't make an effort to find those indie companies that are starting out now. Would love to see reviews of companies like Norra, Röyk, or others and find what Klattermusen, Norrona, Häglofs, Lundhags had until early 2000s.

I totally agree... Hilleberg is one of few companies who is still going strong. Klättermusen WAS a supergod company, but... I think Fjällräven has made an interesting journey. They were super good back in 1960-1970. Then, they tried to scale the business and make money. The quality went down... Today, they have taken a new grip, and right now, I think they produce better quality again. /Matti

@@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA A half price alternative of the Hilleberg tents-and made in Europe-is the less known Czech maker Jurek. Top quality for amazing prices and they've been doing this for many many years for extreme conditions.

Thanks. I usually use Fjallraven as they are easily available here in northern Canada & ordering online is a hassle for me. They look good though & would try them if available

I have Lundhags Authentic II pants and love them. Also velcro pocket closure on them, never had anything fall out. But they are placed on front of the legs, rather than on sides, so that helps. Still, I don’t like the noise of velcro, also it catches on wool gloves, which is anoying. Hip tightening can be uncomfortable under heavy backpack hipbelt. And they did start to wearoff sooner than I expected but still have long life ahead. Very fond of Lundhags, have an awesome pair of boots also. Nobody wears them In my country that I am aware of so that is a bonus too.. :)

Nice video again, well structured review, very helpful. I must say I have two Fjallraven pants, one with an aquatic liner and the other the Vidda pro. Lovely pants, but more suited for autumn and spring in my opinion. Makke would be nice for summer indeed, I will give it some thoughts before buying.

Clear info and covering all the aspects. • A Baalka with zippers on the pockets would be perfect! • *No* aspect of the Makke is what I'm looking for. What about sizing? Would you say that the two trousers fit the same for the same tag-size? Do they fit smaller or larger than expected?
@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA Жыл бұрын
I think Makke is smaller... or maybe it's because of the slim model? /Matti

I have the same experience with Fjällräven, G1000, ( jeans cut, simple ) 20 years ago these pants last for several years. All the new FR I have tried, , are, soory, not worth to buy anymore. The knees and the ass parts have been damaged within 30+ wearing on paraglider tours. I am totally disappointed. And it seems, thta Lundhags good days are gone too. it is the same with normal Levis, 501 and so one, all fucked off quality.

Outdoor life is what we are living for as well! Always! Do people tell you that they envy you from time to time... I would not live that far north tho. I live in the High Coast (still counted as the North of Sweden) and I feel quite comfortable at those temperatures here , but the nature up there is much much more wild of course! 🌲🦌💚🔥

I have a pair of Fjallraven pants. And also i have a pair of Lundhags Makke pants. Honestly i like the Lundhags more. It suits me better than Fjallraven. Sit more comfortable. Don’t have those large pockets. Not that heavy. That’s my experience with the Lundhags pants.

@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA Жыл бұрын
Yes... a kind of windproof. Very similar to other hiking pants. Check Lundhags Makke pants, Fjällräven Keb Trousers and you really should check Taiga Forest pants. 😀 /Matti

I have Lundhags Makke LT . These are lighter in fabrics. But, not light enough to hike all day in the sun at 20+C. Very comfortable in my experience. Light weight, 352g size 50.

i have no experience with these pants. I do however really like the pants from UF Pro, theyt are super sturdy have lots of freedom of movement and i like that the back is higher then the front. I also really like their new closing system, so that you no longer need a belt. Ofcourse they arent cheap, but you get what you pay for. Their customer service is subpurp
@tk5422 Жыл бұрын
Find the makke pockets too small! Even don’t like the 2 small side pockets with zippers. Design is nice, but overall the klättermusen gere has the better solutions
@lotuschamp7796 Жыл бұрын
The stretchy material is the bane of those pants - especially on the knees when you sit in such a position that the material is stretched tight against the skin. Mosquitos bite straight through, and because of this the pants are a no-go for me.

Do you like Lundhags or Fjällräven pants better?
@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA Жыл бұрын
That's a good question! I like Fjällräven Keb very much. They are a little bit like the Lundhags Baalka, and thats great pants. ... but the Lundhags Makke is super nice. I really hope that they will not break down again, but... I'm not so sure... /Matti
