Lupe's Homme ep confirms what I've always suspected about him: he shines best when he magnifies the mundane. Who else could have written a song like Dinosaurs, SLEDOM (Models) or Shoes and fill them with such rich detail and nuance? Lupe is not at his best when he talks about the big stuff by itself; instead, he's untouchable when he talks about the small stuff and tells you how it reminds him of the big stuff.

Tetsuo and Youth has heavy themes, addressed through the approach of the four seasons among many other mundane details. Take Mural (my fav on the project), my favorite lines are often the ones packed with the most mundane details.

Digging deeper, the latter is man made ie "Homme Made" which is the first track in this project and also the cultural references are stuff you grow up watching at home or in the "House" which is the title of this project. Lupe says in Dinosaurs, "And the Flintstones, they, they used to ride 'em With tails particularly good for slidin'" and "The entire Brady crew bit the dust like food from the floor Just imagine one day all the Cruncheroos was just removed from the store" and "Whether it be Grimlock, Yoshi or Earl Sinclair Just remember at one time, this whole world was theirs". And even deeper, its also clear from the above verse and other lines in the track that the Dinosaurs represent old rappers and humans in general and how they can be and are similar in their strengths and fragility. To summarize what Im saying, with this project, little boys and girls can learn from whats on the surface, but we adults got to dig beneath for the black gold, those fossil fuels to power up our House. A fitting name indeed.
