At first I thought Lupe was quitting music all together and I was pissed. It was one of those you don't know what you had until it's gone moments. And then when I realised he was going indie, there was a sigh of relief. It just made me appreciate him even more now. It made me appreciate his art, what it taught me, the self-reflection it arose and the way it made me reevaluate society. And I'm happy for him, without the pressures of a big label he's free to make music in anyway he sees fit. That must be really exciting for an artist like him (especially after the drama from the lasers days) and, more importantly, it's exciting for fans who appreciate genuine talent from an artist that speaks from the heart. People like to throw around the word genius at people who don't live up to that title (Kanye?) but I can say, hand on heart, Lupe is a genius.

@Rappatiligoe041910 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's a coincidence that you see Kanye and Lupe both seeming more open and aggressive at this point in their careers. In the beginning of their careers they had to bite their tongues for the sake of their images. Once you've reached a certain level of respect and maturity, you're more able to express the ideas you've been holding back for so long. I don't think they've gotten more aggressive in nature but when you finally have the opportunity to release some aggression it all comes out at once. Still love them both. Great artists

You cant really say Kanye and Lupe in the same sentence. Kanye has always had writers. Lupe gave us MURALS of elite lyricism. Shit no one else has done or could do. Lupe became what Canibus should have been. Although at his peak, nobody has ever been as vicious on the mic as Canibus. Lupe is just plain nice. Lupe is one of the greatest rappers of my time & he can be full of shit too. I see where he's coming from but our ancestors have worked too hard just have the generations after them roll over or be so passive. The whole not claiming hip hop as "a black thing" or things along those lines are killing me. You don't go to an HBCU that has a minor white etc. population & not call it black anymore. I'm reaching a teeny bit but hip hop is a black movement. Jazz started as a black movement. Blues was a black movement. Some factions of rock started as black movements. We're the only people that sit back & let our culture get swepped right from under our feet. We're the most copied people yet we can't even claim what we originated. It makes my skin crawl to hear another black person say black people can't cling dearly to what WE STARTED!

I agree 100% with you but what I think Lupe was getting at is that you can't make black culture and Hip-hop culture the same thing. That's how you fall into the trap of saying i'm black therefore I'm hip-hop and if this is true then the inverse must also be true I'm hip-hop therefore I'm black and this obviously isn't true.

Lupe is indeed the GREATEST LYRICIST OF ALL TIME. Noticed I said lyricist & not rapper because I know you close-minded internet niggas will be quick to misconstrue everything I just said, when it comes to LYRICS, just WRITING, being able to use EVERY literary device whether it's alliteration, allusions, metaphors or whatever, lupe pushes the envelope. This man is able to create a metaphor inside of a metaphor inside of ANOTHER metaphor, no one comes close to this technicality. Lupe Fiasco has songs from 5-7 years ago(Dumb it down is a perfect example) that niggas are STILL DECODING. He literally FORCES you to analyze every rhyme & that's why he is underrated because majority of the world does not want music that they have to think critically about. It was never supposed to be that way.

she wasnt thinkin hypothetically i think. if the conditions that created hip hiop didnt exist, we'd be better off and in this alternate reality we wouldnt miss hip hop, cause we wouldnt have a frame of reference for something that didnt exist. we'd have a different music culture we'd still appreciate, and there's no reason to think rap in some form wouldnt exist. she was just thinking about how her experiences or circumstances made her who she is, and she likes being proud of that n her background. people suck at these hypotheticals sometimes lol. i also think there's an element of her bein a little complacent in the matter. or a some word i cant think of at the moment.

***** he already said he didnt care about numbers anymore. Pay attention to the interview he said this album only selling 30k and he doesnt care about it.
@phillylegend1410 жыл бұрын
sebastien pierre that bullshit. if he signed to a major label they gonna make him do interviews to promote his album. record sells might not means much to him but to the label it does. dont fall for the bs that Lupe is talking about this last interview stuff.
@ReezyDoesIt10 жыл бұрын
phillylegend14 He's NOT signed to a major. So he doesn't HAVE to do interviews. In the event that he does sign to another major label he might have to do interviews. But as of right now, he's free to do whatever he wants.

I've always been an avid music listener. I like older Hip-Hop but I could never fully get into the new generation. Lupe has always delivered profound, thought provoking art. Enough so, to where Lupe is my connection to Hip-Hop, is there a better spokesperson to the art / representation / medium of Hip-Hop ? Tetsuo & Youth is a masterpiece, there is such confluence of eclectic musical genres. It is fully comprehensive and encapsulating, one can truly study his lyrical content as an academician. Beyond the comparison of rappers to each other, against one another, which I do not understand, Lupe you have created something of high art.

Seeing Lupe mention the Pedagogy of the Opressed made me raise my eyebrow, I'm literally reading the spanish version of Paulo Freire's book right now due to a course I'm taking at my college (and I was bored out of my mind since it was.. well stuff I was familiar with already, it's not a book to read twice in the same year). One thing that bothers me about the book however, is the dude be over using assonance and I can't take what I'm reading seriously. Like literally every 7 or 8 sentences he uses the same suffix 3 to 5 times in the same sentence and it leads to the most confusing stuff you'll ever read.

Lupe is never going to be embraced by the masses because some people just have not grasp the concept. Our culture now is so use to simple shit that decent rappers in the game are called great. GKMC is a classic based on timing and when it came out, opportunistic at best. It was a breath a fresh air to hear it so we are going to give that album critical acclaim. We are so use to garbage that we take anything we get with some sort of substance. Majority of my generation do not know how to listen to music in general. The youth will not appreciate until they reach higher train of thought and that may never happen in their lifetime but Lupe's time will come when gets the credit he deserves.

I'm watching this interview for the 2nd time, and after thinking of thought about the industry and hip hip... im pretty sure Lupe sparked a bunch of minds about the culture in hip-hop. ..The guy 100 % right about the whites of the culture. .. although hip-hop is created out of "black culture"..... "Hip-hop culture is hip-hop, it's not black culture " I agree 1000%... However, the fact that Lupe considers this interview as one of his last.... is 100% bullshit. . I seriously hate when artist do shit like this ... n*gga, this interview is to inform the fan of where you are. .. to maybe spark idea's, and possibly give information of which fans can use and or become inspired by... to all of sudden stop all the interviews, and nearly all contact with fans ( with the exception of the music)... is a slap to the face to a lot of his fans. .

He doesn't owe us anything. Dude been through corporate hell. He's sick of the ''game'' and he don't play that. I'm bummed as well but it is what it is. I hate the industry for controlling all the bullshit we see today. The music industry is a slave, and only the controlled ones, are able to fly high. Lupe is the REALEST G. Of course the industry blacklists him. And you have black people go at Lupe. SMDH. Lupe is the type of black man every black person should be lifting up to the sky, cause he is the one who will fight and die for you.
