The best and last line of the film gets me every time, "That thief Lupin stole the most precious thing of all your highness... your heart." Really shows the true goal Miyazaki and the team had in the making of the movie, to sweep us off our feet and lose our hearts to this puckish rouge and his everlasting found family. Yet another great documentary Bread. I understand imposter syndrome getting you, but you create such detailed and factual stuff I find it impossible that anyone could copy your style.

You're a youtuber where i don't care how long it takes between videos because i _know_ that it'll be worth every second and more. The sheer, unadulterated, absolute _love_ you feel for whatever it is you choose to talk about is not just palpable, but _infectious_ every time. Combine that with the fact that you mention every detail you think is relevant to the topic, no matter how minute, and the idea that _anyone_ could assert that you aren't a "real fan" (a silly thing to say regardless) is utterly _baffling_ to me. Keep doing whatever you choose. I'll be along for the ride for as long as you choose to have me and everyone else here.

It took me until now to finally get around to watching this landmark essay, ironically because it released when I, too, was still suffering under the boot of Long Covid. Two and a half years of my life burned away, two and a half years of seemingly endless wasted time and effortless loss. I'm better now for the most part, thankfully, but... not the same. I'll never be the same. But I suppose that's the way it's supposed to be, the way it has to be. Time marches on, and we march with it. Anyways, I just want to thank you for always being able to capture the same etherial solace in these videos that lies at the heart of humanity; the feeling that's kept me hopeful for life and love ever since I first recognized it as a kid. Not many things can naturally do so for me, but your work manages to every time. I may not know you personally, but I love you for that. Thanks, Breadsword. Breadsword videos always make me cry. It's not sadness, it's not happiness, it's just hope or maybe humanity? It's so apparent the love that you have for the subjects of your videos, the making of them, and your desire to create things for other people to enjoy, and I think those things manifest themselves negatively at times in the way you describe in this and lots of your other videos. I just got out of maybe one of the longest depressive episodes I've had in my life. For something like 6 months every time it felt like I was gonna get out something worse happened. I wasn't enjoying anything, I couldn't sleep, I didn't know what to do or what I would do if theoretically I ever wanted to do anything, which I never did anyways. Either the chemical imbalance in my brain corrected itself or maybe Tears of the Kingdom provided enough dopamine to jumpstart my brain into being happy again and I started fixing what felt like unfixable problems for so long. Today is the end of the first 3 day weekend I've had free of both work and stress concerning the car accident I was in and to celebrate it with a Breadsword video that reminds me that someday I'll be able to do something I'm passionate about, even if life isn't perfect, is something to look forward to. It's apparent to everyone that you're doing everything you can and have the utmost respect for everything you talk about. It was worth the year that it took to make this.

The section around 1:33:00 about the impact on other creatives makes me think of the quote that floats around about one of the Velvet Underground’s albums (to paraphrase): “not a lot of people bought it, but everyone who did buy it started a band.” Maybe not enough people experienced this movie, but it seems like everyone who did was inspired to create something, too. Not a lot of beautiful things come to us quickly and I would be lying if I said I didn't get impatient waiting for this to come out but it was entirely worth it. You are the artist and we are the audience and the only thing we can do is see what you have made and form our own opinions on it. Completely useless opinions to anyone other than ourselves which is to say that you shouldn't worry too much about what we think which I know is something easier said than done but it's true. You took 8 months to make this video because you felt you needed to give Lupin III, and more importantly, everyone who had a hand in creating it, the effort and love it deserves... I waited 3 months to watch this video because I wanted the atmosphere I watched it in to be perfect, so I could give you and your work the respect you deserve. You're an artist, you seem like a really cool dude, and you're a real one. Take your time, we'll be here when it's ready. I hope you're happy, because you make me happy. Have a good one.

I extremely, extremely related to your artistic crisis at the end of this one. While I hate that you've had to struggle with that type of agony, I felt incredibly comforted by the fact that you could feel so unsure about a piece of art that from the beginning I was feeling constantly blown away by. This is so, so, so good. I think we both can trust ourselves more to create meaningful work.

Every single moment of this video essay is pure bliss. Even the melancholy inner personal bit in the last section, as a lot of your struggles are mirrored in my life atm. I have been struggling to create art for the local community I'm in due to health issues and I feel guilty and left behind due to my health preventing me from participating and creating.

my brother died july of 2021, and you were easily one of his favorite video essayists - any time a new video would drop, he'd come over to my place at one in the morning and we'd pile up on the couch and watch together. something about this work of yours keeps drawing me back, rewatching it for the fifth or sixth time, and i just know nick would have absolutely loved it. thank you for making this, despite all the pain and anxiety it caused you, for the chance to have a couple hours with my brother again when i need it.

you've been a creative inspiration for years, i stumbled upon you in my freshman year and now I have graduated and envy your storytelling skills even more with each passing upload. No matter how much expectation you put on yourself, you can always be assured that your effort and heart put into your videos make them instantly classics that I return to marathon every other week. Thank you for your art and thank you for inspiring me and others to become better artists.

I am absolutely blown away. This has to be the most wonderful near-2-hours-long love letter to a film I've ever seen. As an unabashed Lupin III fan, I came into this video being all "Hell yeah, let's gooooo!", and then came out of it like "I think I'm gonna cry because my heart is so full of rainbows!". I already love this movie and consider it among my top favorites of all time, but somehow you singlehandedly made my love for Lupin III grow even more, which is saying a lot. I love how beautifully you described the intricate parts that make the whole of this underrated masterpiece, and there were even parts that actually made me choke up a bit because of the raw emotion you put in your writing. No matter what your anxieties may have told you, I'm beyond glad that you pulled through, finished making this, and put it out there. It was absolutely worth it.

@@BREADSWORD I am honestly surprised you didn't cover CoC before, with all your Miyazaki reviews. CoC was my first Miyazaki film, but one of the last Lupin III content I've seen. It's a magical entry. Miyazaki was stil finding his way whey he was producing the Lupin III part 1 series (athough it definitely had something consistent that to many part 2 episode's didn't have) but his 2 episode's in part 2 and this movie are one of my favorite portrayals of Lupin III.

God. Like. I wish I could communicate the feelings this has inspired in me after watching. Genuinely you are one of the most passionate creators I have ever come across online. It is a joy to experience the things you put out. I know part of this video is devoted to talking about how nervous you were to put it out and all the hard times you had working to get it done and ready. ON TOP of all the copyright stuff you had to deal with post release. But the love drips from every line. Each video you put out is a distinct part of your soul and I gain so much from every one. I'm amazed at your dedication to this project and could only ever hope to one day create even one thing this monumental much less have a whole catalog of things like this. an inspiration and an icon truly.

This was an incredible experience. I almost wept at work three times listening to this. The downright exhaustive amount of detail on points and aspects of ananimation I'd never even considered. The obvious care and enthusiasm in the performance. Easily the best video essay I've had the privilege of listening to in my time here on KZbin. I won't say something grandiose like 'this is your seminal work' but damn if it don't make a strong case for itself. Thank you so much for making this beautiful work of art for others to enjoy and learn from. ❤ Now I better stop typing before I gush too much more. There's a movie I need to watch.

I'm sorry you beat yourself up so bad about this project, man. It really is amazing. A friend reccomended it to me because it is a "bafflingly throrough and well edited masterpeice" after trying to explain to me the history of the series they were remembering from this essay. And until you started talking about your personal relationship with the project and mentioned it took 8 months, I was *sure* it took at least a couple of years. I genuinely stopped multiple times to show my brother incredible portions of this essay and emphasize the insane work I could see went into the editing. Particularly during the Babylon intro with the fast cuts, sometimes one per word. You managed to make that solemn verbal intro funny and stay on topic. This really is incredible and I hope you give yourself credit for the spectacular work you've done. And I'm sorry the Long Covid hit you so hard. I have a lot of loved ones suffering from it and it's BS the goverment failed you and all of us for the sake of short-term quarterly gains. You helped me fall in love with Lupin all over again. Thanks

My dude this was a wonder, I admire you so much for the work and effort you put into all of your vids. It doesn't matter to me how long you take on one of these because I know I'm gonna enjoy it. I come back to this channel almost constantly for the comfort of sharing love for works of art, with gorgeous insights and passion poured into every single frame. It's so easy to say, take care of your health, but there's still a guilt that comes with a lack of productivity. We constantly hear that our worth is reliant on what we do, and it's such bullshit. Whether you're writing a script or watching a comfort show for the seventeenth time in a fugue state at 3am, you're still beautiful. Thank you for sharing that with us

I adore all of BreadSword’s videos. This one especially! I always get excited whenever a new video drops and I love coming back to them and discovering more things to love about some of my favorite pieces of media. I love having these videos on in the background while I’m playing Minecraft or drawing. They are delightful, thoughtful and they warm my soul through the writing and emotion in the way the scripts are read. That said; I hope BreadSword goes to therapy. So many of his wonderful, creative and intellectual videos are layered with a hurt that can only be his own. And for as much as heartache and sorrow can breed art, I hope he gets the help he needs. I hope he finds a way to realize in his own heart that he is valid. His art (as that is what these videos are) is beautiful. That he is intrinsically worthy of taking up space and creating and being appreciated both for his craft and just as another lover of media and art. I hope you’re okay, BreadSword.

This video got me to watch this movie and subsequently plunged me into a three month lupin spree where i could scarcely think of anything else. I always struggle with getting across what I really feel in a comment but I at least had to try. I love when someone's appreciation for something shines so brightly that it's just infectious, and that really shines through here. I showed this movie to so many people after falling in love with it from watching your summary of it alone, and it made some really good memories for me. Thanks for always mixing humor, intelligience and love for the craft with so much sincerity in your videos. Try not to beat yourself up too much about long production times, you're only human!

As a artist and a creative myself, the last 15 minutes of this video hit incredibly hard. Looking at one’s own art and not knowing whether it is good enough is a struggle I don’t know if I will ever get over. What I do know is that this video is more than an essay on Lupen the 3rd, it stands as a monument to art itself. From start to finish, this video oozes an amount of quality and care that I’ve not seen in quite a while. Thank you for making this.

There’s a part of me that resonates with your work. As someone else said, it feels like soul food, but I think it’s the passion of it. Something about that passion, your whole heart out in these videos, hits such a chord that it grabs hold and makes you feel like you just sat through both a biography and a cinematic treasure each time. It’s the reason I backed you on Patreon and haven’t left. It’s the reason why even though I’m a perpetual lurker at times due to my own mental states, I still make time for your work. I make time for how you inspire me, how you remind me of the passion, intelligence, and compassion given into each piece. Just like running big circles in the sand, some things, some feelings, are a fixed point in our minds. Just like that, some people help remind us of it. I may not personally know you, but I feel I understand you, in so many ways that matter. Thank you once more, friend.

At the end of it, I feel everything with more clarity, more detail than before. The colors more distinct and meaningful, sounds become more timbre and full. Life becomes more, somehow. Every video is a delight to come back to, and each new one is one I look forward to. You have given me more epiphanies, and expanded my way of thinking more than I can give you credit for.
