That question put Lupita in an awkward place. I didn't appreciate it. We always ask the marginalized about the problems put on them by others, but never the people in power, who create and perpetuate the problem. Ask the white actresses what they're doing to widen the circle of stories told. If THR asked Lupita that question, they best, at minimum, be asking ScarJo about taking on that trans role.

@@Thembanimkhz It was a question that put the recipient in an uncomfortable space and required effort from the recipient to deftly extricate herself from the situation. It's not okay. It's not up to people of color to have to constantly gracefully deflect microaggressions - It's up to white people to not make people of color uncomfortable and to not always make people of color talk about the situation we put them in and keep them in. Folks who aren't black love to admire the way black folks deal with shitty situations that white people put them in - without thinking about the tax and toll it takes on a human to constantly have to maneuver in those situations, and without taking any action to end those shitty situations. When they cast actors for high budget they look at who can bring the most money while fitting a role, it's not uncommon to create roles for these actos specifically aswell. I agree there should be diversity but saying that trans people would be more authentic is a bad statement. An actors job is to act they don't need to be trans to play a trans person. If you made a high budget movie you would also go for a well known actor who is guaranteed to bring sales. Also actors don't make deals they decide if they take a role or not but the deal is made by the agency. If you wanted her in your movie you would contact her agency and offer a deal then she decided if she takes the role. (RIP to non celeb actors who have to take all they get) Sometimes someone asks actors directly but even then the agency makes the deal in the end.

The women appear jealous or threatened by lupitas articulation and intelligence. They feel my gosh all i have is the looks but i wish i was as intelligent and articulate as lupita who expresses herself with clarity and deep sense of introspection which many of them on that table dont have. They are like how did this dark skin African girl take America by storm, be so intelligent and speak better than us with all the opportunities we have had. Lupita makes them look small because many of them lets be honest they would not be where they are if it were not from knowing someone in holly wood or some connection to the powers that be but for Lupita she has everything going against her in a very white field whereby beauty is everything and knowing who is who to get a movie is crucial. Lupita comes out of nowhere , with a funny name, from africa and wins an Oscar on her first movie which has never been done and gets to play in iconic movies like star wars and a main feature role in a big movie like black panther in such a short period. Just reminds me of Obama. A Skinny guy from nowhere, with a funny name becomes president of America. Both with Kenyan roots.
