They hardest thing is people looking at you and saying you don’t look sick, so you can’t really get any support from family and friends. Living with lupus you learn how to fake being ok, when in reality everyday your in pain.. You just start teaching yourself little things to do to push through your day. Your life changes, trying to keep a job and support yourself is a challenge, because you never know how your going to wake up.. you can get 10hrs of sleep and you still cant make it through a whole day without a nap.. The mental part is very hard. Especially if you have no family. You will find yourself worrying how you’re gonna financial take care of yourself, it’s very hard to work. My heart goes out to everyone living with this disease. If people only knew. I pray for a cure.🙏🏾

Laneta Jenkins I have heard very similar from meeting a variety of those who suffer - Lupus. They told me that they find comfort by connecting with other Lupus patients or just realizing that "they are not alone". I wish you well.

My parents say I'm just lazy. I haven't been able to work but I was denied disability because they determined that "lupus did not affect my daily life " Obviously awareness hasn't made it to SSA yet.

I was diagnosed in 1982, I was 22 years old. I have been on chemo, lost my kidneys and been through all the possible symptoms. I am now 62 and have had a transplant and been in remission for two decades. I now have new problems and in between all my illnesses, I still have had good times. It’s up to the patient how they will handle and learn to live with Lupus.

sheri hogan I had lupus and suffered much from it for almost ten years, I was diagnosed with SLE after I had cancer. With a proper diet I was able to reverse it, I avoided white sugar, low carbohydrate, no sugary drinks and sweets, vegetable sprouts especially alfalfa. I declined any medication but opted for natural remedies. I drink ginger tea everyday.no direct sunlight . A bit of exercise if I can helps. Last month, my blood tests result was clear, I'm free, but I'm still careful.

My older sister had Lupus and now, after doing well for a few years, her doctor told her that her kidneys are beginning to fail because the medication isn't doing it's job, and if this new medication doesn't work, she could go into total kidney failure. I was more scared about the news about her kidneys than I was when we figured out she had Lupus. I've already made a promise to donate blood if she needs it, and now, if it calls for it, I will donate a kidney to her because I refuse to let this take my sister. I get really scared that I'll lose her and I don't want anything to happen to her.

MacyPooh196 i have discovered that eating mostly green veggies has reduced flare up i feel better Only problem now is i had an accident i went in my closet reaching for something and did not notice the plug for my iron hanging and the iron hit my head with its tip broke thru the skin I immediately poured hydrogen peroxide to keep it germ free, it healed well except i developed pressure and it feels numb on top of my head Since then i have developed a kind of sunken in on my forehead top between my eyes are swollen i have sharp like knives stabbing pain that come by surprise headache i feel a weird pressure from top of head upper palate nose eyes ears teeth And its a struggle to work am a truck driver it causes many problems I think i may have brain trouble I got rid of my heart problem I have decided to fight passively eating right but its so hard to work Am afraid i will not heal fast enough to keep earning my keep Am single dont want to burden my children my bones are in constant pain writting, texting is very painful I tried changing jobs i worked as a cook but pain in bones will not allow me to cut veggies my hand goes numb and arm not qualified to do other work Cant get disability So all i have as a plan is to plan my funeral least cost no health insurance spent too much already last episode of flare up Having had an abusive former husband took extra pounding at bones broken wrists messed up knees So i know drinking green smoothies helps I bought a small blender to have smoothies yayyy

Lupus is horrible 😢 I was diagnosed 2007 felt like I've had it most if my life, I was 31 at the time, its a constant fight just to get from one day to the next, hardest part is you don't look sick,so when you can't function as you should and you try to explain it, people think you're just lazy or just making excuses, even the ones who say they understood really don't, you find that out as you go along, I thank God I have a great husband who helps with everything and expects nothing in return, I can't even be intimate with him and he still stands by me, everything about this disease changes your life!! I pray thats all I can do without effort.

I have Lupus, diagnosed in two thousand and three, but felt like I had it when I was eleven years old. Now older a lot of things began to happen. I had a lot of surgery's, I had my gallbladder taken out, tonsils, I had a hysterectomy, Deep Vein Thrombosis, and there after a heart attack and about Six Pulomonary Embolisms. Everyday! I'm fighting!.

been diagnosed with fibromyalgia sciatica scoliosis rheumatoid arthritis bulging, all kinds bad disks empty sella cataracts dry eye yet i dont give in to the pity, attention, sadness, depression, or anything i quickly look for how to get out of it a good cry in the shower so eyes dont swell i rarely take prednisone i stopped killing myself with up to 12 tylenol or more to be able to work i think i had at least 2 strokes 3 yrs ago my left is still numb yet no one can tell cause i stretch doing plank has been great !!!! really great!!!!!!!!!!!! i have my days now that my head feels really bad but if i drink my green juice eat salad am great!!!!! i have noticed that getting rid of my sugar is a miracle

I am just so impressed how well this was done. I have Lupus and you can watch a lot of stuff about it but when I watched this I cried. It meant so much to hear that others go though exactly the same things I do and I know I am not alone. It is the simple stuff, like "staring at the shower" and wondering why it has to be so hard. To most people its just a shower but to some of us it is an agonizing task. Everything in this doc was spot on to my life and my experiences with Lupus. I spent my 20's sick and in the hospital but I researched, went back to school and received my CHHC and now help others heal from within. I am happy to say that I am medication free and managing my disease thru diet, stress management, a sleep schedule, daily movement and a positive mindset. Lupus is certainly tricky, like all disease seems to be, but it can be managed and it doesn't have to define you. Thank you for bringing awareness.

Jefferson Baleva keto type diets are good for Lupus. Most days you feel normal. Every now and then she might have pain and/or feel tired but most days on this diet she’ll feel great.

As someone who was diagnosed at the age of 7, I was one of the youngest children in the United States to be diagnosed with lupus, at first they thought I had leukemia- they tested my ANA and it was at 420, I had renal failure, at first they gave me 6 months to live then they gave me 10 years, I’m now 19, I’m in a flare now but I’m being treated. My 34yr old sister isay died from systemic lupus last Apr 12, 2015 leaving behind a husband and a 5yr old son. She battled the disease for 5yrs and I'll forever regret not doing enough for her. I think we'll forever mourn losing her, we love her so much! There's a little awareness of lupus in the Phils. Yes she seeked medical help and had been confined 5x but if we only knew what we know now she would still be alive. One of the most painful part is watching her slowly die inside the Hosp. I can never erase it from my mind. I miss my sister so much.

Didith Castro, I am so sorry for your loss😔. Lupus makes me angry😡 and it gives me the feeling of being powerless. I know I shouldn't feel like this but I can't help it! I was diagnosed with lupus February of 2014 but I was told by a doctor that I must have had lupus since I was a little girl. This makes me scare because now I understand why I've been in a coma TWICE and I just never know if it will happen again😔.

It feels grieved to see the stories with such serious issues. I too am a lulups nephritis patients, was 19 when diagnosed, i m 24 today living almost a normal life as everything now is in remission since 1.5 years as reports by my doctor. With close follow ups and medications everything has settled but im have to be on meds my doctor says. I don't know if i will ever be free from meds or what the future holds but at present, i consider myself blessed at heart to have provided all the needful by my family. Im under treatment of a Nephrologist since diagnosis, and i can't be more grateful to have such a great doctor like him, i feel truly blessed. I too had a lot of symptoms and went through a really tuff time since we were unaware about the disease. But once i was diagnosed, i have gotten better on every passing follow-up . God blees everyone!

June 1st is my 19th anniversary being dx with SLE, nephritis and cns, 2 of the higest comorbidity factors. Love your lupus, many don't understand the life changing effects of this malfunction of the auto immune. Don't allow them to insult you or make you feel inferior. People that don't understand the illness often bully and intimidate patients unaware of how debilitating the body feels. Make the most of life, you are not lupus and you are not alone. Leave, remove, everything toxic in your life. Lobby for lupus support to those disabled. Lupus patients need financial help almost always. Because of inconsistency in ability to work with care requirements. Best advice from my experience, inflamnation needs to be reduced from the inside out. Go plant based eating, Keto with lower protein level intake. Cut all all sugars and food additives, cut processed foods FAST often. I have SLE, and everyday is a surprise. I struggle with the side effects of the meds, and try to control it through diet and exercise, but it’s so unpredictable and has a mind of its own. The medical system is broken. Doctors don’t care, and just pass you around with little to no care, family doesn’t care. I do this on my own, and I’m tired. The only thing that keeps me opening my eyes each day are my kids. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.

I was diagnosed with Lupus SLE in 2015. Since I am Native American, our health care system does not have the resources for specialist or doctors, so I am an untreated patient. I live my life everyday with this untreated time bomb. it was nice to see all the people being treated so carefully with their Lupus. I envy them. I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus in 1982. I have experienced all the Lupus symptoms and have ESRD with a kidney transplant and now at 60 years old have had a heart attack. I have had extremely unbelievable bad moments in my life, and yet, I have had many incredible and wonderful times with my husband, family and friends. If you have Lupus, please, listen and follow all the instructions your doctors give you, have patience and FAITH, even with all the restrictions this disease throws at you, try to continue your life as routinely as possible. Thank you for sharing this video abouth lupus...it means a lot to me that i am not the only one who is suffering from lupus. Because toghetter we are strong! I had a uncle who died of it in 2001...that scared me a lot because i got the diagnose in 1990...after a lot of dokter visits with all kind of wrong diagnoses for 4 years i asked that i wanted to go to see a specialist. He did all kind of tests and came to the conclusion of lupus. Tried some medication but it only made my lupus worser. A younger nice is diagnosed with it to...so that makes 3 persons in one family. I wish everyone good luck by fighting this terreble monster that lives in us...and hope that one day they find a good cure so that no one has to suffer from it.

I have lupus for 8 years now, it Attack my kidney, 5 years ago I decide to become vegetarian and it made a great improve on my disease, less stress helps too, and work out and stretching, just don't go under the sun that offend tho.. But changing my diets I found out it's a must.

I did not know anything about lupus until I saw a video blog about it. The lady doing the blog needs kidney and lung transplants to live. I had no idea about this. This doc is really good. When they said things like "It restricts you from doing the things you want to do", "it takes away all your goals and dreams in life" and "I didn't do this to myself, it just happened", it resonated alot with me. I was diagnosed 4 years ago, when i was 16. I had to rethink everything I wanted to do with my life, my ambitions, the adventures I wanted to go on and often when I thought of stuff like that, I feel like I'm being dramatic bc there're so many ppl who have it much worse. It's nice to know that there're others who feel the things I do.

Great seeing men sharing their Lupus experience. I have it as well and most people say you look fine and Lupus is a female/ Black disease. No it’s not!!! Men woman white black asian Latin etc can all get this horrible disease. Great documentary and blessings to all who suffer with this. When she was in her mid 40's she was told she had Systemic and the skin type (I can't remember the word, sorry it is late and I am very tired, always tired) I got sick in my late 20's and now I am almost 60. I have Fibro, Chronic Fatigue Syn, Thyroid, Arthritis others...I need to know if there is ANY testing or DNA studies that you or anyone might know about. My daughter is in her early 30's and now showing the same signs. She is wanting to have kids..I am terrified of what I DON"T know...IF we knew we could at least get help or KNOW what we're facing. I've read much about water fasting and its effects on autoimmune diseases like arthritis. There is a fascinating article in GQ Magazine about a man who went on a medically supervised water fast for 6 days. His arthritis symptoms cleared up. If I had lupus I would try this as I read about a British comedian who developed lupus and cured herself of it through a raw vegan diet. Apparently it can't be cured. I think conventional medicine treats the symptoms but not the causes and if toxicity in the body is creating an auto immune response then a water fast seems the best course of action, albeit a very difficult one.

I have SLE and I'd say getting and holding on to a job is especially hard... Here in my country no one's going to hire you if you have a disability that could go active and eat up into their healthcare budget, so I have no choice but to NOT disclose that I have this illness. It sucks to have a super sensitive immune system-- you won't be able to keep up with the workload. One time (just two months shy of finally being regularized as an employee) I had to not turn up at work because it was flu season and I was (as I seasonally am) immuno-compromised. I also do not have the luxury of resting just about any time of the day when at work because eyes are on you. This led to me losing my job... I'm still trying to figure out how to pay for meds (because dangit, Cellcept is hella expensive).
