Mackerel stayed up here thick in North Norfolk this year giving us incredible fishing for 6 weeks, holding loads of bass coming through in marauding shoals literally a rod length out. Was brilliant. Since they left I’ve enjoyed 8 blanks 😂😭

Interesting, lots of reports the South West were quieter so maybe all the mackerel headed east !

Hi, have been watching and enjoying your channel for a while now but this will be my first comment! Caught my first Garfish today off the kayak with a float and a little bit of sand eel. It lept out of the water a great deal. Landed it in my kayak, where it promptly shook itself off the hook and back into the water! Love the channel by the way! Best, Kev...from the South West

I've caught loads of garfish - but then again I was fishing on the coast in Denmark, where they're very common and arrive in big shoals. they can be hard to hook but you attach a single hook to a lure like a Dexter using a bit of monofil about 25-30mm long so it trails a bit they're amazing fun on a light fly rod using a streamer with a bit of weight to make it rise and sink on the retrieve. they often jump and 'tail walk' (about the drag problem: I always loosen the drag after a session to stop the felt pads being compressed and getting 'grabby')

My question is, if the mackerel are being chased by bass would it perhaps be worth using a sinking soft weedless Like a black minnow to get under the shoal where there may be a lazy bigger one lurking below picking off easy meals ,?

I need help, Just got my hand on my first zonk and got it snagged and had a heart attack ( not literally ) but luckily i managed to put the thing out, so how do I work a zonk like a sub surface lure with out retreiving it at the speed of light??????
@SaltwaterAngler Жыл бұрын
Is it a sinking or floating version S or F possibly on the packet
@Abdullah-MakkiMohammed Жыл бұрын
sinking@@SaltwaterAngler have i messed up should i have gotten the floating instead??
@SaltwaterAngler Жыл бұрын
@@Abdullah-MakkiMohammed no, not at all Basic theory but in a shoal Bigger bass are lower down. Spearfishing and commercial reports back this up. So yes you want it to sink and then work it back at the right depth. I find it works best in really buoyant oxygenated water. Speed of retrieve dependent or currents and flow of water so you vary it dependant on that. As with all lures do as little as possible to make the lure act like a bait fish. It’s a good lure for the shingle beaches which should lessen your chances of getting snagged.
