I just love local, privately owned tackle shops! This week we head to Phoenix, Arizona, to check out Phoenix Fishing Supply, the state's most complete freshwater, saltwater, and fly fishing store. Since 1987 Phoenix Fishing Supply has been the angler's go-to for rods, reels, hooks, tackle and bait. This amazing tackle shop has an incredible selection of locally made lures such as Gary Yamamoto, 5010 Plastics, Arizona Custom Baits, and Persuader spinnerbaits, as well as some local bait makes that may be new to you including Gary Senft's Thin Wire Spinnerbaits, Copper State Baits, and Lure Maker Custom Baits. The staff is super knowledgeable and friendly, so even when the bass aren't biting, it's worth a trip inside. And if you can't make it to Phoenix, just give them a call and they will ship anything you saw in this video! Special thanks to Goudy, Alexis, and Gary for showing me around the shop...and feeding me lunch!

It's so fitting to release a retro bassin video on SATURDAY MORNING....considering how retro/sentimental Saturday morning's are for people my age :) Saturday morning fishing with pops, Saturday morning cartoons...as a kid Saturday mornings were the absolute best time of the week. Thank you!

Yeah, that ain’t no accident. I spent a lot of time researching the “best” time to upload videos on KZbin, then I decided to forget all that and just post them at the same time as my favorite fishing shows growing up: Saturday morning. Rising with the morning sun, I got no work today…

Westy's baits are a mainstay in AZ. Made by Dan Westphal. He started out with the Westy Worm which was a rigged worm on a leadhead. It was and still is a must have for fishing the AZ lakes. He made mostly jig worms but did other baits as you saw. He was also an amazing tournament angler and fished in the era when John Murray was growing up fishing in AZ. Lots of history there. Great video Retro!

Do you ever get annoyed by those videos where you have some clueless kid trying to fish with vintage / old school gear as part of a dumb challenge or dare or something ? It's cool that they're trying out some classic stuff, but it's just a joke and a novelty to them. You always hear " it actually worked " or " I can't believe I just caught a fish with this " and it just makes me disappointed in my generation. They won't question the centuries old hook and worm , but somehow they question the possibility of catching a fish on an old Mitchell 300 ?
