I always wanted to try that shoreline fishing for walleye. Is there anywhere you think recommend being safer for a guy going by himself ? Always wondered about my vechile parked at night, any troubles with that ?
@karlwolf1012 жыл бұрын
@@fishon6515 ya know as to "safe", I'm not gonna say anywhere is safe as I'm always hearing gunshots and there are less than savory characters about in the urban environments at night. Many of the spots get rather crowded during a good bite and then you dont have to worry about much except for tangles. I've went out several times myself and never had an issue but I wont say I wasnt slightly paranoid at times. The western basin seems to turn on a little earlier in the casting seasons and the central a little later. As to where to go, I'm sorry buddy but I wont share those exact locations online as a few places I go get super packed already and a few places I go dont get so packed. I will say this though, you need to find certain spots to fish in different winds and dont be afraid to move if theres no fish there. It can be feast or famine nights. I've been out a few times and not even a bump and 2 times witnessing a topwater walleye feeding frenzy like you wouldn't imagine ever existed.

@karlwolf1013 ай бұрын
That's great Alvin, they really help casting against the wind or when you need baits to go a little deeper with a pause ans twitch. As for the rip raps or liplees cranks, size 5-6 day and 6-7 night. Good luck and say hello if you see me up there thos year.

Hey Karl . . . hope your doing well - question for ya . . . i was just going thru my box and noticed between last year and this year - that i have alot of HJ- 12's - ( Shallow and Deep Diver's ) i have no 14's - are those not going to produce decent size Walleye from Lake Erie ?
@karlwolf101Ай бұрын
They will work just fine, won't cast quite as far but they will be great. I prefer the HJ12 deep over the 14 deeps as those 14 deeps are huge!

Ever tried Berkley Hit Sticks? I had great success with them last year. 6th Sense D3 Hybrid Swim Crank too.

Ya know I've heard good things about them and i have a big one. They float and I dont like that about them for what I'd use them for. I got way to many extras of what I do have and cant justify getting any more. I've sorta stocked up on fishing gear so when i have kids and am broke, i already have my gear

Just getting into pier fishing I think I'll pick up a few of x tackles shallow divers. They have most of the popular P10 color schemes minus Marvin:( I like the lower price tag to go out and buy a bunch of standard/custom p10s and bandits is not cheap. Thank you!
@karlwolf1012 жыл бұрын
Depends on the depth you are fishing. They go slightly deeper than a p10 on a cast and they have some more weight. Definitely a good option, especially when casting into the wind as they are heavier and cast better. I'd suggest a MH spinning and not a M as they are 3/4 oz.

C Karl, do you shore fish for walleye through out winter? Jan. Feb. or just fall and spring?
@karlwolf1012 жыл бұрын
You can definitely shore fish for walleye anytime of the year on any body of water. For me personally, I wouldn't make the drive up the the big lake to fish it this late or in the summer but fish can be caught. If I was going to shore fish for "eyes", I'd target walleye and saugeye at inland lakes and rivers right now.
@themanmike12 жыл бұрын
@@karlwolf101 I've been targeting Stealhead in the Rocky River this time of year. I'm retired now and am fishing more than ever, almost daily. Fishing Stealhead by day and Walleye by night sounds like a good time to me.. Thanks for the info and all the vids. Tell Justin I liked and subscribed!! ODNR should stock Wallace lake sometime this month with trout. I'll be there for sure. I'm on the west side of Cleveburgville, only minutes from the Lakes, "Erie" "Wallace and Coe" and Rocky River. I'll keep an eye out for you and J man.....

@@themanmike1 most excellent! I've never fished Wallace but it's really cool the mixed trout and sometimes small salmon they put in there for the winter and ice fishing. Maybe I'll give it a try with some kids if we ever get good icem Ive only fished the Rocky maybe a dozen times, hoping the flows are good this weekend, should be excellent!

Another question for ya. Do you usually twitch the deep husky jerks back or strait retrieve when fishing for eyes at night? Thanks!

I'm more of a pause and twitch guy myself but sometimes slow and steady is the ticket or even slow sweeps and pauses. Definitely very slow retrieves though

Thanks for the info.What kind of line do you use fishing the piers at night?
@karlwolf1012 жыл бұрын
You're most welcome David. Personally I use 10-15lb braid. The brand I use is power pro original or PP super slick 8. PP has out new V2 braid line but I bought bulk spool of PP years ago so that's what I use and I'm rather content with it. Some guys go heavier line but I stick lighter for casting distance. I also normally use a barrel swivel and a 2 ft leader of some 20-30lb mono to help with rock abrasion as that's one fault with braid. When things start freezing up, you'll need to go to straight mono or floro as the braid freezes on spool and casting is horrible but about that time I'll be switching over to steelhead and ice fishing. Using that light of mainline I've only been snapped off a couple times out of many trips and one was definitely a pike or musky that just but me off.

I appreciate the info.Last year was my first year fishing the piers for walleye.I usually fish with Power Pro 15lb. braid.Just wanted to make sure I was fishing with the correct line.I can’t wait to get up there this year again,it’s a blast!Once again I enjoy watching all your videos,keep up the good work.Fish on brother!

What’s some tips on using these and not losing them ie snags
@karlwolf101 Жыл бұрын
Use them depth appropriately so as to not drag the bottom, "eyes" are not feeding at the bottom at night and are looking for suspending baitfish or baitfish closer to the top. Definitely don't use deep divers in shallow water and if you feel yourself hitting bottom to much, try to jig upwards instead of down
@spddmn75ify2 жыл бұрын
What kind of setup as far as rod & reel and line do you use
@karlwolf1012 жыл бұрын
I like a medium or medium light rod depending on the combo with size 3000 reel spooled with 10-15 lb braid. Some guys use heavier than I do but I like what i use
