Traditional musical automaton designed in 1984 by Renato Boaretto and representing a sultan who smokes hookah.
This musical automaton has 5 movements: movement of the right arm which brings the hookah´s mouthpiece to its mouth, movement of the left arm which manipulates the fan into real peacock feathers, movement of the right head to the left which also bends over and system of suction and smoke rejection.
This musical automaton that functions with a 4 cam motor made in Switzerland sucks in and actually releases the cigarette smoke that is operated with the hookah.
A traditional 36-note wind up mechanism accompanies the scene to Mozart´s "The Magic Flute" music.
This musical automaton has been completely restored (movement adjustment, restarting the smoke mechanism and creating new and richer costumes and accessories (peacock feathers, leather belt, silk fabrics etc...).
