A year after initial announcement HomeKit is among us! Luton Caseta is among the first to grace our homes with the power of Siri. Does it work as smoothly as we all hope? Lets find out!
Also, I know I switch to saying Casetra and not Caseta halfway through! My apologies!

I have those switches all over my house and they work great. One thing I would never do is install smart locks or garage door openers. Don’t want a hacker messing around with my locks. I already had to change my password for the Lutron account once. Seems Simone hacked my password and was turning my lights on and off in the middle of the night. Changed the password and it hasn’t happened again.

There is a wall adapter for the pico so you can actually mount the pico anywhere. Works great if you want to add another place of control, like if you want a switch at a door where it currently missing.

The Pico remote does have a wall adapter so you can permanently attach the pico to the wall. You can buy them at Home Depot or Lowes or through your electrical distributor if you are a contractor. They also make a 4-button pico that you can use as a keypad on your wall. You can engrave it with anything you want and use it to control one or multiple lights! Pretty sweet actually.

I have an older caseta system with an L-BDG bridge. It doesn't work with homekit and I just ordered the kit in this video. Can I migrate all my old switches to the new bridge or will I have to use 2 bridges? I can't find any info on Lutron's website. Thanks!

I would like to use this in my bedroom, but my lighting isn't done through lamps- just a ceiling fan! Is there anyway I can use this system or another system similar to this to turn off my lights/turn on the fan?

@Tony Falcone Sorry but it won't let me respond directly to your comment! But yes I have tried the geoFencing and while not quite as reliable as the Hue, they do work well! Very handy feature!

Andrew-thanks for a great video (as always). I am trying to use a homekit enabled switch to control my fan (and the speed) and the light on the fan-I don't want to replace my dumb fan at this time-is there any switch that will do the job? Could I just connect this switch with the dimmer to the fan?
@AndrewOHara
@AndrewOHara 9 жыл бұрын
Brady Burnsides It isn't letting me respond directly to your comment so hopefully this tagged person is you! As far as your ceiling fan goes, I'd say the Hue system would be your best bet! They will be adding HomeKit compatibility this fall, and you have all the other features that Lutron offers! It is what I currently use. They are actual LED bulbs so they can fit any standard bulb sockets.

Any idea if the lutron is compatible with the newish iOS home app when running hue hardware too? Many thanks in advance
@AndrewOHara

+Lee Vardy Do you mean this Home app?? (kzbin.info/www/bejne/jX2mlJd9bdZ_gKM) If so, yes! Any HomeKit comparable hardware will work with that app!

+AndrewOHara So, how would you set up a thermostat connection?
@AndrewOHara
@AndrewOHara 7 жыл бұрын
+George Stanley you could use a HomeKit enabled thermostat. Then you can use HomeKit automation to make them work together.

Does the Lutron Caseta system allow you to program lights to be turned on and off at different times of the day? For example, can you set the system to automatically turn on your lights at sunset then perhaps have the automatically dim at say 10:00 and then go completely off at Midnight? I have the WeMo Switch and I really like being able to have my light come on in the evening and then go off at Midnight.
@AndrewOHara
@AndrewOHara 8 жыл бұрын
+Lachlant1984 Absolutely. Anything with HomeKit allows you to program them like that as well as triggers for arriving and leaving.

+Andrew Ohara Not totally accurate... While the accessories information (Lutron dimmers) are in HomeKit the scenes are not. Scenes were not part of the original HomeKit specs (this was added in iOS 8.1) and Lutron has yet to upgrade the app since. If you instal a third party app such as "Home" and or "Eve" you will see that the scenes don't carry through I don't have an Apple TV (yet), so I use the Lutron app to simply turn things on and off as the Lutron app talks to your house via their server and not iCloud. When at home and I want more control, I use Home with scenes and triggers.

Andrew, I bought the same kit. I could never get it to work. One thing you didn't mention in your video is that the Lutron router has to connect to the Lutron mothership (Lutron server on the Internet). For some reason my DSL router would not allow it to connect outside my network. Did you have this problem? If so, how did you get around it?
@AndrewOHara
@AndrewOHara 8 жыл бұрын
+Cactus Tweeter I did not and I have a very restrictive router. I can't use my own router because I am on AT&T UVerse. The router also controls the TVs so I can't swap it. Ive had a ton of issues connecting remotely to my home network. Fortunately, this was never an issue with my Lutron setup. It worked perfectly fine.! Im not sure why the router would be being mean about it like that.

+Andrew OHara I've seen it. I actually have hue, but I'm going to install recessed lighting and trying to figure out the best route to go for smart lights. With lutron, I have more light options. As long as they're dimmable, I'm good. With hue, I'm limited to hue or GE link br30 lights. GE lights dont look that good to me and the hue lights are pretty pricey. I'm trying to figure it all out.
@AndrewOHara
@AndrewOHara 8 жыл бұрын
Well you can find some older Hue bulbs since they just upgraded them. The Lux you can pickup for 20 bucks instead of 30, and the colored bulbs for 40, instead of 60. I agree you do have more options with Lutron though.

THis brand was our second try. THe first one was another brand and only lasted less than two years. So we replaced it with this about a year and a half or so ago. It no longer works properly either. I wouldn't recommend this one. I am now in the market for a new one, DIFFERENT brand.

should've contacted Lutron they would've replaced everything and made it right. they're the leader in remote lighting and dimmer switches the creator of Lutron invented the first home use light dimmer. Lutron is the only way to go if you want reliability you mustve had a faulty set
