This is the Lux Video Theater from December, 1956 and you can briefly glimpse Gordon MacRae, Shirley Jones and Phil Harris at the beginning of the number. I own "The Big Record" hosted by Patti Page from 1957 and this is not it.
@AngelaM557 жыл бұрын
Thank you Paul, then it was the JMIFC who misidentified it. We did spot Gordon MacRae in the beginning and that gave us pause, but this was in a green film canister marked THE BIG RECORD and there were stills from this that I believe, Clara Rhodes identified as being from THE BIG RECORD. We also have a Clan Cave attendee who said this was shown to them and identified as from THE BIG RECORD. If you'd like to provide further validation, information, please message me.

Thanks for getting back to me. This was aired on December 20, 1956 as "Hollywood's Musical Holiday Revue" as part of the Lux Video Theater series. The cast included Gordon, Shirley, Jack Cassidy and Phil Harris and Ken Carpenter was the announcer. I have this complete show as well as "The Big Record". As for the mislabeling...I will discretely say that "some people" were told that they were wrong but didn't appreciate being corrected. Meowwwww :)
@katiegardner90487 жыл бұрын
This is certainly possible, however, the can of film is physically in my possession and is labeled Big Record on both the can and the film strip itself. We too wondered about MacRae, et al. If you have the complete shows, any chance you will enter into the spirit of what we're doing and get them digitized and published so that everyone can see? That is our plan with materials now in our possession, going forward, this was not a one-time deal just with this clip. :)
@pebrogan7 жыл бұрын
Hi Katie - Why don't you e-mail me at: pebrogan@gmail.com and we can further discuss!! :) Patti Page and her last husband, Jerry, lived about an hour from me in New Hampshire. They had a Maple Syrup Farm and I regularly visited them. She did four benefit concerts for me to help those with HIV in NH in 2001 and 2002 and out of gratitude screened "The Big Record" as well as over an hour of rehearsal footage. Because of my obvious enthusiasm, she and Jerry had copies professionally made as a gift for my birthday in October of 2003. I can assure you that "Will You Remember" is not performed in either the finished program or during rehearsals. I know the Raymonds had a copy of the program because Patti always gave her guests a courtesy copy for their appearance, so it's possible that someone, somewhere got it mixed up. When time permits, let's chat! :)

Are the stories true about them being in love with each other for years and years?
@AngelaM553 жыл бұрын
Yes. It was an open secret in Hollywood of that era. For whatever reason, they decided early on that marriage wouldn’t work. Both were ambitious and career driven and that was a point of contention that cropped up time and again. They tried but they couldn’t stay away from each other. After Jeanette died, Eddy was dining with business associates who commiserated with him over how the press hounded him after her death. Eddy turned red, got very emotional and blurred out, “we married the wrong people.” That they were able to carve out moments of happiness together over a 30 year period was a consolation.

Were they a couple at some point? Because both were married right?
@AngelaM552 жыл бұрын
Yes. They started seeing each other toward the end of filming Naughty Marietta. By the time they started filming Rose Marie, they were embroiled in a red hot romance and she became pregnant with Eddy’s baby which she miscarried. Eddy thought she buckled to LB Mayer’s demands and aborted it and they broke up. During this time, she was supposed to be engaged to her business manager Bob Richee but after she broke up with Eddy she started dating Gene Raymond. Eddy wanted her to give up her career for marriage, Raymond was a charming and handsome companion who bore a strong resemblance to Eddy but made no demands about her career. Her mother approved of Raymond and hated Eddy, so she married him in a lavish, studio supported wedding in June of 1937. Later that year she and Eddy started filming Girl of the Golden West and were barely speaking, with Eddy drowning his sorrow during the shooting. But by mid-January of 1938, she and Eddy were back together after Raymond was arrested in raid at a homosexual party. The doctored arrest record for indecency was uncovered years later (Raymond was a bi-sexual who cheated on her with men and women throughout the marriage). She was with Eddy during his 1938 concert tour and by the time they started filming Sweethearts, she was again pregnant by Eddy but lost the baby at nearly 6 months. She was supposed to go to Reno to divorce Raymond but after she lost the baby, she told Eddy to wait until she’d finished her next picture (Broadway Serenade). He became enraged, got drunk and eloped to Vegas with Ann Franklin, ex wife of director Sidney Franklin whose shoulder he’d been crying on during these troubled months. He lived to regret that decision as Ann turned out to be mentally unstable. That’s how they ended up in a marital quagmire they never seemed able (or willing) to get out of. They took up again during the filming of New Moon and continued to see each other throughout the 40s, broke up in 1951 and got back together after his surprise appearance on her “This Is Your Life” segment. It was quite a turbulent relationship, but they were together in the truest sense for the better part of 30 years and considered themselves married by God’s law if not by man’s.

@@AngelaM55 How do you know all that? i don't remember reading any articles about them dating at all
@AngelaM552 жыл бұрын
@@litastar2455 It’s a long story. About 10 years ago, I became intrigued with the story. I read Sweethearts by Sharon Rich and was a bit incredulous because as you say, it was not public knowledge at the time. Although it was rumored back then. Sharon was a personal friend of Blossom Rock (Jeanette’s sister) who was living in the Motion Picture Home after a stroke. Rich was a teenaged volunteer who was assigned to her. Blossom turned her address book over to Rich after indicating details of the affair. Rich followed up with interviews of the then still living eye witnesses - she also turned up with the help of others, doctored arrest records for Raymond. It was enough to spur me to do my own digging to verify eventually forming a research partnership with Katie Gardner (see her blog on Wordpress for a plethora of information). We dug up and had digitized film footage of their funerals from the LOC and along with 2 other people we purchased the remainder of Jeanette’s estate from the defunct JMIFC much of which we’re still sifting through (correspondence, medical records, you name it). I am also co-owner of Jeanette’s 1962 desk diary which was sold separately and gives a heartbreaking look at her unhappiness and declining health in her own hand. I also purchased in separate transactions from the auction handling her estate, eye-opening financial records from the 1950s, correspondence in the 1940s about her potential Met debut, correspondence between Gene Raymond and Nelson regarding a possible film reunion. I own original scripts with Jeanette’s notations. As a larger group, we purchased an original 1935 letter where Eddy thanks Jeanette for a Christmas gift telling her “I love you and will always be devoted to you” - it goes on and on and on. And yes, Katie will be writing her own book about Jeanette. There was a huge coverup by the spouses who outlived them by 20 and 30 years respectively and threatened to sue anyone who went on record. The two women who ran Jeanette’s fan club received annual salaries from Raymond and they used threats and intimidation to keep people from talking (tons of correspondence ). They even threatened poor Eleanor Powell. For more info see singingsweethearts.wordpress.com/tag/sweethearts/

Even going so far as to pick up men in public places with no regard to her or anyone!
