Down pillows are among the most popular sleep accessories on the market, and have been used throughout history. However, down-alternative pillows (which swap feathers for synthetic or natural fibers) have become increasingly trendy, particularly among sleepers who don’t want to sleep on animal products. But how does real down compare to the alternative?
Luxe Pillow was founded in 2016 by Matt and Annie Potter, a married couple looking to alleviate neck pain. After months of experimenting with all kinds of different sleep accessories, they concluded that if they wanted the perfect pillow, they’d have to make it themselves.
By 2017, the Luxe Down and Down-Alternative pillows were officially introduced to the public (and Matt Potter was the brand’s first happy customer!). Now, the company exclusively sells down and down-alternative pillows for sleepers of all styles… But the only way to determine which one is best for you, is by taking a close examination of each one!

I like the lower loft of the down alternative pillow (as a stomach sleeper). While I love the feel of down pillows so much more than memory foam pillows, I can't stand their smell (down smells awful to me). I'm really impressed that the down alternative pillow was so close to the real deal that it was actually difficult to differentiate between the two. I'm definitely putting this pillow on my wish list!

Loved the fact that Luxe gives back to their community with the 1% back Portland area public schools. I've pretty much stayed away from down pillows, because I've always had the impression that they just sink in too much, and don't give your neck the support needed. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this is not the case with the Luxe down, and down alternative pillows. It appears, and sounds like there would be adequate support for a side sleeper like me... 5 inch loft... I think that would work! I'm happy to see Luxe offers the down alternative with 100% polyester gel fiber for Vegan shoppers. I'm a very hot sleeper, so the 100% stretched cotton cover would be very helpful! Love the breathable materials!!! Thanks for another great review!!!

Love that these both have cotton covers. I absolutely love the smell of a down pillow, but hate getting poked! Also, a great quality down pillow can be pricey, but so worth it. Great considerations!

great to see more pillow reviews and another brand i had never heard of. I like that they offer what sounds like a great down alternative pillow i think i would have a hard time choosing between the two but being a side sleeper i would lean towards the real down

Just 2 days ago I went thru pillows I had, found my beloved & hated real feather pillows I no longer use since all the feather ends stick out.. I've switched to down alternative but I'm a side sleeper & I'm now really wondering if my pillow choice is adding to my neck& back pain. Love the loft of the true down, also that it does work for all sleep positions. Great review!

Down pillows, I fluff them, and the are the same 10 yrs later as the day I bought them. I'm trying to figure out if 'down alternative' compares to this. It's really my only concern as I shop for new pillows, now. ..... Otherwise, either one I assume price translates to quality of sewing, cover fabric and amount of fill per square inch.
