I want to thank you sooooo much for posting this video!!! I thought I had damaged my Artsy handle by drying it out. I tried the Apple conditioner and I didn’t like it. I watched this video and decided to order the Saddle Butter. It came today and it worked!!!! It didn’temy handle darker and it feels amazing!! Thanks sooooo much!!! ❤️❤️❤️

I live in pdx and I’m so scared to wear my new petit noe, because it’s always raining. I was afraid to use the Apple gard. I’m glad you mentioned the saddle butter, I’m gonna pick some up. Thank you!

I live in PDX too! The Apple Guard does work but it can be bad for the leather. It's basically like putting saran wrap on and suffocates it. The saddle butter will penetrate and not destroy the vachetta you paid so much for!

jeannie hoang hi, I would lightly test the saddle butter on a small inconspicuous area first before doing the whole bag. No, I don’t use it on canvas. Canvas isn’t leather so it doesn’t respond the same way as vachetta. I put Cadillac on canvas just for some luster.

Thank you for this! I was looking through your fb page and can’t find the results. Can you tell me the date you posted, may be easier to find that way. I just bought a preloved keepall and it has a few watermarks on the bottom, and I noticed the start of a crack on vachetta (after I wiped it down with a damp cloth) so I think I need to condition. I have read Cadillac doesn’t change color of vachetta but was hoping to see your results. Or if you have a recommendation based on my bag from what I said. 😊

Thank you for all the information! I purchased a preloved alma, 2008 tad bit light honey color vachetta, can I condition with saddle butter (Kali shows as unavailable on amazon) before cleaning with the fiebings soap you recommended in your other video? Or is the waterproofing going to make it difficult to clean?

Yes! A little goes a long way. I use my hands to warm a small amount and massage it into the vachetta. I let sit as long as I can before cleaning, then let dry, and condition again.

I have an Alma Pm from 1999 I purchased a few months ago with beautiful light honey pattena. It has been sitting in my closet (not inside dust bag) and hardly used. Yesterday I noticed cracking on the vachetta. What steps do you recommend? I don’t want the vachetta to darken too much but I also want to prevent more cracking. Thank you!

I’d recommend conditioning it to prevent further cracking. Conditioner can make the leather look darker simply because it’s dry and hour adding moisture. Just like dry skin can look light or ashy and looks darker when hydrated.

Hi!!! I have a speedy b in monogram and my right side vachetta strap on the bag is stained black/grayish. I am more than sure that it was because I had the lock on there and the lock tarnished super badly. I have cleaned it with 100% water wipes a couple times and now I’m seeing an orange spot.. How can I fix this?😕

GabyGarcia98 it’s likely tarnish transfer to the vachetta as you identified. I haven’t been able to remove that without damaging the leather. What I would do is use a little Angelus leather paint in the color “vachetta” to conceal (like make up.)

Diana correct, it’s my go to! I tend to go for that first and repeat that before I try something else.

Diana I recommend conditioning first - let it sit for day or days before cleaning to let it really penetrate

Diana Any liquid will darken, at least temporarily. Dehydrated leather is artificially light. Moisturized May be darker but that’s the color it should be, not created by the conditioner.

June Afternoon hi! Often times when people report darkening, the vachetta was very light due to being dry. Once any liquid is applied, and it dries, that’s typically the patina of the vachetta.

Clean first to remove stains, I like liquid saddle soap, then condition. Both products are awesome for different purposes. I have five conditioners I use for different purposes.

I wouldn’t say it darkens vachetta as much as the moisture will darken dehydrated leather. Any conditioner will make thirsty leather look darker but it’s really just the actual color of the leather.

Hi! Canvas is PVC so technically the leather conditioner won’t alter the composition it but it won’t hurt anything. It’s a bit expensive to use on canvas, I’d use Cadillac if you’re wanting to use something.
