I want to share with you the story of an incredible journey I embarked on to fulfill my dream. This film tells the tale of how, with a lot of effort, perseverance, and faith in myself, I managed to turn a stone ruin into a warm and cozy forest house in just one year.
The house, built back in 1957, is situated on a beautiful 2.5-hectare plot of land. When I first saw it, it was in really poor condition-almost unrecognizable and overrun by nature. Yet, in those stone walls, I saw potential and an opportunity to create a home with a soul.
The transformation was anything but easy. It required months of hard work, meticulous planning, and countless moments when I had to rely on my determination and patience. Every stone, every plank, and every detail was restored with love and respect for tradition, but also with a vision of a modern and comfortable living space.
This house now tells the story of how dreams can come true with hard work and faith in yourself. I hope this story will inspire you to pursue your own goals, no matter how distant they may seem.

Greetings from Finland. Knowing the history is essential. I love that you bring this up. I am 45-year old guy and started renovate slowly our 1917 built log house at rural area. No water in or out, only the one you carry an so on. All original except some inside layers. So history comes handy here. Finland got independent that year when the house was Finished. Our country had been decades under Sweden or Russia. They probably built it five years, because at some point construction year was thought to be 1912. Last summer I found a lead-pencil scribble from one main roof log freely translate: "This astablisment has been built 1917." Knowing this makes it even more important to conserve. Imagine, they started it as Russian citizen and finished is as a Finn. History is like it is written hi-story. The best, highest story. God bless you with this house and take care!

Je vous félicite pour cette rénovation parfaitement exécutée. Il est agréable de voir quelqu'un posseder autant de capacités qui, toutes sont indispensables pour mener à bien ce genre d'ouvrage. C'est plutôt rare. J'ai passé une bonne partie de ma vie à restaurer des maisons datant souvent de plusieurs siècles, donc restaurées avec les mêmes matériaux et souvent avec les mêmes techniques. Je sais ce que cela représente et je n'ai pas autant de capacités que vous. Seul bémol, j'aurais utilisé un mortier à base de chaux aérienne pour l'exécution du jointoiement. Maçon à la base, on ne se refait pas 😂 merci encore pour ce partage.

This guy is like me. He is a perfectionist. I bought a house built in 1860. I cussed that house up and down while I was re- doing it, but in the end, it was an amazing learning process and it turned out more beautiful than even I imagined it could. So cool to see somebody else do the same thing. Strip the whole thing down and redo it right. Takes a passion not many people have. Good job!

@ Yes, I took photos. Probably on an old laptop I’ve got. doesn’t matter now, anyhow. Ex-wife got it in the divorce. Anyhow, I could tell you stories about that house. I found all kind of bizarre and weird things. I did some research at the local library and found out it was owned by a judge in 1860. And, guess what? Abraham Lincoln himself probably stayed there. His presidential Train passed through Edwardsville, Illinois during his election campaign. In those days, The prospective politician customarily would’ve stayed at the town judge’s house as a guest. This was Edwardsville, Illinois. About 25 to 30 miles north of St. Louis on the east side of the river. And, Abe stopped there on his presidential train tour for a while. Gave a speech to the towns people, etc. The house had an indoor well. Indoor plumbing. I found lateral plumbing going from the well to a 12’ Wide x 10’ Deep cistern. They actually built the house on top of it so that when I went to remove the floor I damn near fell down an 80 foot drop to the top of the water. Water was 20’ deep. Perfectly round 5’ shaft made of 18” long brick. I wanted to keep it as an art piece. I was going to Cap it with 1 inch plexiglass with a light at the very bottom shining upwards. Longer I thought about it, the less appealing it became. I thought I might be asking for a lawsuit down the line if by some weird chance somebody fell down it. I ended up just capping it off and floored over the top of it. So many things like that. Had a ash pot burn hole in the middle of the house too in the center hallway. Once used to be the back porch. I kept that and refinished the floor without sanding it out. Pure history. In those days when they emptied the fireplace, they usually used a metal bucket to scoop the ashes into and then set it on the back porch for it to cool off. It would always leave a charred burn mark in the wood where the bucket was set on the back porch of the house at night. The house had 16 inch thick brick walls throughout. Every time they expanded, they just kept adding brick to brick. Once it heated up. You could turn off the furnace for several days and the place would stay warm. There was that much thermal mass. Also true in the summer with the air conditioning. Once cooled down, it would stay cool for days after turning off the ac.

Dublin ireland 🇮🇪. Wow wow I'm blown away by the talent of this amazing youg man. What is it you can't do. You also can cook terrific food. I've watched this video from beginning to end and was blown away. I'm a 74yr old woman and it brought back so many fond memories of my beautiful late brother Desmond. He committed suicide some years ago. He loved carpentry and was a roofer. Like you he was gifted and was capable of doing exactly what you have done. I felt so close to my late brother watching this video. I noticed your wearing a wedding ring. She is one lucky lady. My own late father was also like you. My daddy was gifted with his hands. Growing up in my family home daddy did all the dyu in the house. Even making our doors and window frames. I miss them both. I've loved this and happy i came across it on u tube. It's amazing what one incredibly talented and determined man can accomplish. Is there anything this man can't do? I haven't seen craftsmanship this good since my father and grandfather passed away. They were exceptional builders as well. This man skipped nothing! Quality all the way. I loved watching every second of this video. Just spectacular.
